I love getting out of the house when it’s warmer to go do stuff. We live in northern Michigan where winter hurts your face, so most of the winter season I try to stay close to home and let them play in the yard. But I do agree, going out and meeting and chatting with other moms recharges me. Being pregnant with twins this winter is going to be tough but I’m so excited for spring and summer.

I also have stashes of extras in the car and just bring full bags of snacks when we go out. It’s way easier to not have to shuffle things back and forth all the time.

I love getting put of the house in the morning, but I'm exhausted when we get home (pregnant with out second). So we'll usually go out just a few mornings a week instead of every day. That way I can get some housework done the days we are home and not feel overwhelmed 😅

Oh tooootally. With my newborn and one and half year old, we were out of the house every day. Park, splash pad, YMCA so I could work out. Now that my baby is 6 months and on a solid nap schedule we almost never leave the house lol. And I once again enjoy it. Have had to learn there’s seasons for everything!

I totally identify with you 😆especially after reading the child whisperer that I’m you recommended! I feel like it’s so much easier to get out of the house with kids even though I may be more physically exhausted after. So it sounds weird to my husband, but I can’t explain it to him where it makes sense. But I’m that go-go-go type as well.

Right up my alley! But I have a full-time job, I'm also studying, and it's not my partner's preference. He's fine with only meeting people anywhere (at home, outside). I'm into doing new things, going to new places, travelling, outdoors. It's a lot of work, but I enjoy it a lot. Even before my daughter was born. Find all the weird stuff available to do - I've probably done it. Sometimes, I manage to convince friends to come along so my hubby gets happy, but I wish I had more chances to do these things.

Yes! I always bring pjs and toothbrushes and bedtime books with me for afternoon activities or going out to dinner. We change them at the restaurant, at friends’ houses, family, outdoor places, etc. I can’t tell you how many times parents say to me, omg that is such a good idea, wow. 😊

Why do almost all of these electrolyte products have Stevia. Yuck. I <3 you Shayla, but I am not a fan of Stevia. Only one I found that doesn’t is from Needed. I have been using those for a couple of years now, since I gave birth. And I am still nursing my 2 year old. It is pricey and I don’t like that it’s only offered in individual packets but they are pretty good.

Thoughts on baby proofing?? Going a little crazy just with one. Amazing curious toddler gal… my instinct is to close up and secure everything but also want her to explore. We have a yes zone in the basement but the whole house feels overwhelming to baby proof so it’s not a constant battle

Random question, but you don’t seem to have the top lip melasma you had with the other babies. Did you do any treatment for it or just didn’t show up this time? I still have mine after 10 months and really want it gone! Thanks!

I do love getting out. It helps my mental health, makes me not feel like trapped inside, exploring is so fun. Some of the obstacles to that is for sure food (I’m pregnant and starving all the time while also having dietary restrictions makes this soooo hard). The first year of life changes ALL THE TIME!! I just realized we can’t go to the lake for a while till my 9mo gets out of the crawling/ put everything in his mouth phase bc it’s just not fun at all. Even though my 4 year old could play with the sand and water for hours.
It does feel like I’m missing out on a break if he naps in the car/ in the stroller while we’re out. And it also can be mentally exhausting to be watching your kids in the wild so intensely (running away, other people, environmental dangers etc). Other than that I love it 😅

One video I’d love to see from you is motherhood and invisibility. What about motherhood suddenly makes us (feel) invisible?? I understand inside the home yes much the work goes unnoticed. But outside the home too

I’d LOVE a video about solo bedtimes. It’s my least favorite right now.

@heyshayla You’re an amazing mom, don’t be too hard on yourself. Chatting with moms while spending time together is important for your children to see. You’re modeling what being a friend is, so many people our age are lonely and isolated. Your kids will benefit from learning social skills from watching you be a friend to others!!! It’s very important, you spend PLENTY of time talking to your little ones, relax and ENJOY adult conversation. I love your quirky grin zoom in haha!!

Yes, very much an “experience” mom, and so is my kid. Always sleeps so much better after an outing, gets the energy out, learns new experience. We even did it while I was pregnant with #2, which was not easy at all, but definitely helped. Had my list of “easier” activities to do with him during that time.

A couple videos back, you were rating difficulty on transitions between kids, saying 2-3 was hardest, would you still agree now that you are 3 months in? I have met many moms that say 1-2 is hardest but after that it’s easier, and I always wonder how, because I know more kids=busier life!

I feel like you are me. I hate being in the house, I get out every day with my toddler and baby. It is hard getting out but 100% easier once we're out. I try to prep as much food snacks, bags etc the bight before.

When you said about going to a different neighbourhood, I rotate all the parks in my city so I have something different to look at and then often go to a cafe nearby, kills a good few hours!

Suburbia has so many playgrounds where we are. We could go to a different playground every day for a month. We’ve tried so many of them. And different kinds of playgrounds serve different purposes. I realized in the past couple months that going to the gym satisfies part of my big feeling of I want to go do something. I have never been a gym person but closing in on 4 years of being a mom and I definitely want to be a gym mom.

My saving grace for motherhood and pregnancy is going into my backyard, or just getting outside in general. My backyard is totally baby proofed, so I can just let my toddler run around and pick up leaves, dig, etc. Meanwhile I get to work on crafts, network for my job, or chat on the phone with friends. I am not an outdoorsy person, I suffer from all the allergies, but my son loves being outside and I know if he's in his element I can relax and not have to entertain him so much. And if the mess stays outside, I can just give my child a bath, and then the rest of the house stays pretty clean.

I prefer to stay home most of the time but going outside or walking to the park is something we do on most days as well! However, going to the zoo or all the things you mentioned does sound exhausting to me! 😅 But I do like to plan activities at home to keep my toddler entertained. So some days we do crafts, other days it’s science experiments etc. I made a list ahead of time kind of like what you do for outings except mine is for activity ideas!

Getting out and about literally saved me with my first born. It took a while to build up the confidence to do it, because I'm a planner and need to know things like, is there parking, do they have AC, is there a bathroom, are there high chairs etc what I discovered was that I am a cafe coffee person. Now my son asks if we are going to a cafe most weekend and enjoys the experience with me. It's wonderful!
