The main reason .22TCM & .22TCMr hasn't caught on is that Armscor never submitted the rounds to SAAMI for standardization. And I don't understand why they don't....
ОтветитьThanks Dan. Same story as GAP?
ОтветитьMy experience with Rock Island 1911's has been dismal.
I try to have examples of all calibers, so I finally got a 1911 in 22 TCM.
First, magazines wouldn't lock in, other than the one inside of it when it arrived. Long story short, the mag catch is drill slightly off. Whatever, I modified six magazines to fit it. Functioned perfectly with all magazines... until the chamber gets a tiny bit dirty, then it is a single shot as it can't extract stuck cases. Each round has to be poked out with a dowel.
Clean and brush the chamber and you can get a magazine or so through it perfectly, then it instantly becomes a 100% stuck case situation.
I scoped the the chamber and it is about a 3 of 10 for factory roughness. I can have a finish reamer made to correct dimensional issues, then polish it down. All the cases show signs of overpressure. I ordered a case of US made ammo to try. Note that the Philippino ammo I have is from three very different lots and all has the same issue.
Maybe case annealing is poor, as no ejected cases will go back into the chamber without getting very stuck.
5.7 offers significantly better capacity, for just about the same ballistics as the 22tcm, and even when the FN 5.7 was the only pistol that chambered it, it was miles about in reliability to anything by Rock Island Armory. Ever since Ruger put out an affordable, reliable, 5.7 pistol, there was simply no reason to putz around with 2 "same, but different" proprietary rounds.
ОтветитьI have a 22TCM/9mm combo 1911 & a bolt action rifle in TCM with a beautiful wood stock. LOVE THEM! I saw a guy who made a AK47 in 22TCM & it worked great. Would love one of those. The ammo cost in MI is less than 45acp, so not bad.
ОтветитьNope to both.
ОтветитьHead spacing problems
Ответить17hmr
ОтветитьI own 2 handguns and the bolt action rifle from RIA
in 22tcm
The 22tcm is constantly available for .30 round
Lack of SAAMI specs so no one else would touch it. End of discussion. Also RIA totally screwed the 22TCM rifles with poor quality and recalls. The ability to make brass from any .222 Rem. Parent cartridge was a huge plus for the TCM and they totally blew it!
ОтветитьI have a glock17 chambered in 22tcm...I love the firearm..I want the pistol from rock island but I can't find any.
ОтветитьI have a rifle in this caliber and a friend has the1911. He reloads for this and keeps us well supplied. You can get everything you need to do the same
ОтветитьI have both. I like the tcm, but they gotta get the specs .22 tcm and .22 tcm9r saami certified. Thats the bottom line. They give up those rights and everything changes...
ОтветитьOK ... Have the 1911 short barrel and also the M22 rifle by Rock Island. Love them both, but because it was a new toy
bought 1K of 40g bullets, 1K of brass and a 8lb jug of H110 & W-748 powder. Do my own reloading and the only real
problem is the bullets are a mixed variety of 40g, 39g, 38g, 41g, 42g so have spent a lot of time weighing bullets and
re-boxing them by weight. They all shoot well in their own group. I carry the 1911 and two extra double stack mags
on a wider tactical belt. Use the rifle as my small game gun, and as long as you do head shots, you can save the rest
of the meat, because the standard 40g bullet does a lot of damage to rabbits, tree rats and real rats at the dump.
also, the .218 bee 45g is a great bullet for the TCM. as far as load data goes, Pistol 10g of H-110 or W- 748,, Rifle I
bump it up to 11.5g same powder. I hope RIA continues making brass and bullets. Lots of fun and with the Weaver Kaspa
4x12/50mm scope am getting about 2730FPS rifle and 1850 FPS with the pistol. My rifle is a tack driver with .25" groups
and a lot of hole in hole, I think mainly as I load as close to Match grade as possible . Sooo, thats my story and
sticking to it. Hope RIA stays in production for the .22TCM.
The reason they have the TCMr for the polymer frames is that they had to reduce the chamber pressure. They shortened the round slightly so you couldn't inadvertently chamber a regular TCM round in a polymer frame. I have two TCM 1911s, one single stack and one double stack. I love the guns and the round. I have done a bit of customizing to both of them, cutting 20 LPI checkering on the front of the grip and the front of the trigger guard. I have also redone the sights to better suit my taste. I now have a Rock Island Armory Island BBR 3.10 with a 3.1" barrel, 10rd capacity in 9mm that I am ordering a second barrel for. I am going to sleeve it to .223 and chamber it for the TCM. I am not sure how the round will perform from a shorter barrel, but I like it enough to find out. Not sure when I will have the time to complete that, but when I do, I will let you know how it worked out.
ОтветитьI am glad I didn't pick one up......I'll keep my 22 Mag.....lol
ОтветитьI learned by almost buying a FiveSeven that I can't afford 22 WMR-level plinking at twice the price. TCM is neat, like 5.7, but pointless when you have other hobbies to fund also... And 22 mag is (borderline) cheap at half of the price.
ОтветитьThe 22tcm oal is about the same as 38super auto and the 22tcm9r is about the same oal as 9mm. The RIA 22tcm magazine is a 38super auto magazine. If you had a 38 super you could swap barrels and recoil springs and run the tcm. Glock swaps are used with the 9mm magazine so they had to shorten the oal of the cartridge in order to make it work. 38 super is slightly longer and more powerful than than 9mm also. You could have a 1911 with 9mm, 22tcm and 38 super barrels and recoil springs and only use the 38 super magazines. Glock guys wanted to have fun with the tcm cartridge so armscore/RIA made a cartridge specifically designed to work with 9mm magazines. Good for them in a way. It just didn't take off like the 5.7 has the last few years. I enjoy the TCM cartridge and I'd like to see it hang in there. Maybe a 9mm/TCM9R AR build would be fun for the tcm9r guys to bring it back around a bit. A semi auto carbine would be fun in tcm9r with Glock mags.
Ответить22magnum does same thing ... Is why.
ОтветитьTried lubing the chamber to help with extraction. Didn't help much, if any.
ОтветитьI have the tac ultra fs convertible and it’s been nothing but excellent after about 70 round break in period and is astonishingly accurate especially with the tcm barrel
Ответитьanybody have issue with the tcm ammo shell getting stuck in the chamber constantly when firing a round?
ОтветитьI really like the idea of having a .22TCM9R carry firearm. It’s low recoil and has a lot of punch. It’s also lighter and more cost effective than 9mm. All it takes for TCM to kick off is a bigger firearm manufacturer to make something mainstream. The 5.7 is cool but they’re way too big to carry and in my state of Illinois they’re illegal because they hold more than 15 rounds.
ОтветитьI have the 4.5 inch barrel version double stacked, had some trouble with it and send it back twice. claim was the rejector spring was in backwards, what rejector spring? 1911 style guns don't have that. but it's running 100 percent and accurate. Haven't found the right holster for it though, because I do think the round would be a great defense round.
So is it official from the company that it's a dead horse? I hope not, they can still branch out the manufacture of the round and send it in to be official as said another here.
If the 5.7 don't have another barrel for 9, I think the 22TCM guns with both cal barrels give a better choice for gun owners for shooting.
This cartridge might have survived if it was chambered in pocket guns like the baby browning and such. If they could've kept the velocity up in the 2" barrel, that would also help.
ОтветитьArmscore needs to get this round SAMI certified, that is where they went wrong, the round is awesome, bullets are similar to 22bee so it's available and you can cut down 5.56 brass and make cases. I really wish they would get this round up and going again.
ОтветитьIf rock island or bear creek would make a AR 22TCm and other types of ammo besides the one offering it might go over.
ОтветитьHave had my RIA 1911 A2 since Sept ‘18, have 6 boxes of rounds and still have not fired it bc ammo is so hard to find where I am.
ОтветитьRIA stupid. 22tcm then 22tcm9R? Stupid. 9R to fit in a G17? They should have just kept the 22tcm and fit it in a G20. Yes they would have a magazine problem to address but would have been better to stay with the standard rather than the stupid 9R crap. No PCC in 22tcm either. Yeah I saw the ar guy and he says all kinds of problems with the ammo and cycling. All stupid. Oh yeah all lead nose projectiles, crap.
ОтветитьI see this as an example of the free market being overtaken by inside money/politics.
ОтветитьI recently picked up a gently used RIA hi-cap 1911 A2 target model at my local gun store for a very good price. They had two, one with Nowlin-ramped barrels and the other with traditional 1911 type barrels. I chose the one with the ramped barrels. The 22TCM chamber was very tight, with almost every other round either sticking halfway into the chamber, or fired cases failing to extract. I finished-reamed the chamber and adjusted the extractor tension and now it runs great. With the 9mm barrel installed it runs perfectly. The trigger is a little coarse but overall, for the price it's a great gun.
I love shooting 22TCM. I wish the ammo was available from other manufacturers than just Armscor, whose quality control is not the best. I've never gotten into reloading, but the lack of availability and the high prices of the 22TCM ammo may force my hand, although forming 22TCM cases from the parent .223 Remington brass would make it a lot more work than, say, reloading 9mm.
The 22tcm is not dead , it’s more available now than ever & I’ve got 3 pistols & a rifle, the 57 has been used by law enforcement in several foreign countries that’s why it’s more popular
ОтветитьDANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN YOU WERE MISLEAD BY YOUR FRIENDS INFOS ON 22 TCM, DO NOT CRY LIKE A COW, 22TCM TUASON-CRAIG MAGNUM GUNS AND BULLETS ARE VERY MUCH ALIVE IN ASIA, AUSTRALIA,CANADA AND ENTIRE EUROPE AND THE REST OF USA MAINLAND EXCEPT YOU LOCATION AND ADDRESS MY COMRADE! COMPARING GLOCK,SIG SAUER,S7W,WILSON COMBAT,KYMBER, SPRINGFIELD, FN, NAME IT DAN, NOBODY MATCHES THE QUALITY ,ACCURACY AND DURABILITY OF ROCK ISLAND ARMSCOR GUNS WHETHER HANDGUNS,RIFLES 556, AUTO SHOTGUNS ALL CALIBERS AND PLATFORMS ! 22TCM RIA NO.1 IN THE UNIVERSE!
ОтветитьI dont think its dead, there are plenty of enthusasits that enjoy the TCM. There isnt enough marketing that promotes the guns. Much like Steyr arms.
ОтветитьIs the 22TCM sub moa at 100yds from a bolt action rifle? There doesn’t appear to be much in this space and I’m guessing their accuracy is out the door. Be nice to know how accurate both 22TCm and 5.7x28 would be from a rifle. Definitely a fun round.
Ответить22 tcm
ОтветитьThanks for the info. This is why I decided to thin out my different calibers to 4, 9mm Luger, 22LR, 38/357 and 45ACP. No more 40, 22TCM, 5.7s, 32ACP, 22 short and so on.
ОтветитьPrice of ammo ?
ОтветитьWhy died?
ОтветитьMy main issue with the 22TCM is the soft brass. I have a 22TCM DI AR15 upper that should allow me to load my 22TCM up to 5.56 pressure levels. It won't even come close due to the soft brass. Even with standard loads the brass doesn't last long. This caused me to quickly lose interest in the round.
ОтветитьZero recoil...lol cmon man
ОтветитьWho told you that 22tcm died men?
ОтветитьI like my TCM, and it's still possible to get ammo for it, yes it is expensive.
ОтветитьThe problem with .22tcm is that they tried to jam it into a .45 footprint, or worse, a 9mm footprint. This left you using crappy projectiles. With the longer 5.7mags, you could potentially reload with 55grain or 62grain .223 projectiles. I'd much prefer .22tcm over 5.7.
Ответить.22 tcm makes 100 x more sense all existing 9mm guns can be converted to run .22tcm . no existing pistols in common pistol calibers can be converted to run 5.7mm . for a pistol to run 5.7 it has to have been built for it to begin with .
ОтветитьJust fired my tcm today!!! So different than the.357 sig
ОтветитьI bought my 22TCM rifle to replace my 22 Hornet. Love it. Never fired a 22TCM handgun.
