Шапошникова Маргарита Константиновна -- профессор Российской академии музыки им. Гнесиных, Народная артистка России (2005), лауреат Международного (Хельсинки, 1962) и Всесоюзного (Ленинград, 1964) конкурсов -- является основателем первого в СССР класса саксофона (с 1965 г.) в музыкальных учебных заведениях им. Гнесиных.
Margarita Konstantinovna Shaposhnikova is a professor of the Russian Academy of Music named by Gnesinyh, People's artist of Russia (2005), a winner of the International contest (Helsinki, 1962) and of the All-Union contest ( Leningrad, 1964). She is a founder of the first saxophone class in the USSR (since 1965) in the musical institutions named by Gnesinyh. She is a saxophonist who performed the concerts and brought the saxophone to the level of classic and modern music of the academic forms. Since sixties of the twentieth century she started to promote the richest world repertoire for academic saxophone in the USSR. Her performing talent, virtuoso technique and artistry were appreciated by media in her own country and abroad. They say she was "a saxophone queen..., the star with the dazzling technique..., an unusual phenomenon who enthuses the audience".
Shaposhnikova goes on tours in Russia and abroad. She performed more that 1000 recitals with the music of different countries, ages and styles. There are more than 20 concert programs in her repertoire such as "Saxophone in the Modern World", "French Evening of the Music", "Russiana", "Hello, Mr. Sax", etc. She participated in the concerts of the All-Russian Composers home, All-Russian Musical Society, International Fund named by V.Spivakov, in the program "New Names", in the Russian Fund of Culture.
M. Shaposhnikova performed with recitals in the concert program "Saxophone Sounds". She organized "Youth Club Sax", "Large Ensemble of Saxophonists" that became a prize-holder of the Moscow Festival of Arts "Phaistos". She prepared a number of saxophone contests. She worked as a Chairman of the Jury and a juror. She resumed the activities of "Moscow Saxophone Quartet" combining the leadership with the fingering.
Besides the recitals she was a soloist with the orchestra under the baton of S.Sondersis, G.Provatorov, V. Sinaysky, V.Chernushenko, F.Mansurov, P.Nekrasov, etc. She was a soloist with the orchestra of Mariinsky Theatre under V.Georgiev.
She performed abroad in France, Japan Germany, Baltics, Ukraine, Yugoslavia, Finland, Italy. She participated in the international festivals in Moscow, Tolyati, Berlin, Edinburgh, etc.
M. Shaposhnikova is a founder of her own performing school. Among her students there are more than 30 prizewinners of the International, All-Union and All-Russian contests, honored artists of Russia, professors and lecturers of Russian institutes such as A.Oseychuk, Y.Vorontsov, A.Volkov, S.Rezantsev, V.Vals, Sergey Kolesov, Nikita Zimin, Vitaly Vatulya.
A set of plates and CDs was recorded by her. She prepared radio programs. She produced a TV movie "The Saxophone Voice" (studio Covcheg", Technological Production Association "Ekran"). She is the author and compiler of the tutorials, sheet music (more than 20 works).
Shaposhnikova is an initiator of the creation of the solo and ensemble repertoire for the saxophones in Russia since sixtieth of the twentieth century. She is an author of a number of transcriptions which she has been working in the cooperation with D.Shostakovich, A.Hachaturyan, T.Hrennikov, A.Eshpay. She is the Executive Premier of many works (A.Shnitke, E.Denisov, S.Pavlenko, V.Yakimovsky). Many composers dedicated their works to her (M.Rauhverger, M.Gagnidze, M.Gotlib, G.Kalinkovich, etc.
M.Shaposhnikova was presented donative saxophones of the "Selmer" company for the bright performing identity, for the promotion of the playing the saxophone and also for her initiative of organizing of the saxophone academic education in Russia. Her name has been introduced to the domestic bibliographies "Performers on Wind Instruments" and to the International Dictionary "Who is Who?" (Cambridge).
