For Canadians, the traditions are familiar and reassuring. The opening of parliament, the calling of the reluctant speaker, the 3 knocks on the door of the Commons. The symbols such as the very heavy mace. All a result of hundreds of years of parliamentary tradition passed down through the centuries. It is very similar in all 56 Commonwealth countries, although Canada may be a bit more into the traditions. But HEY- this is the beating heart of our democracy, founded on bedrock, with courtesy and respect for the process at the center of it all. God Bless Canada!

As a Canadian I thank his Majesty King Charles for coming to Canada to open our parliament.
