It is fascinating to think that when I was young, I was led to believe that it was a GOOD thing for the priests to be judged only by ecclesiastical courts. How wrong that was!

Beckett served 7 years as Chancellor and 8 years as Archbishop.

Beckett was not a Saxon but a Norman. The film followed a play that had made Becket a Saxon using artistic license.

Always brilliant in his acting, Peter O'Toole really was his best playing Henry II in Becket and The Lion in Winter.

The 1960's was the golden era of great British historical films, from "Becket" to "A Man for all Seasons", "The Lion in Winter", "Khartoum", "Zulu" , "Lawrence of Arabia" and many, many more, starring such unforgettable actors as Richard Burton, Peter O' Toole, Michael Caine, Sir Lawrence Olivier, Sean Connery etc., who will always remain my personal favourites of all time.

I wish they made more movie like this now as we seem to have lost that golden screen feeling actors today most are crap have no ora not like back then
