As for the View, they made their belief "clear". The problem is that they were wrong.

Also, it is not a “clarification” (i.e., “we need to update what we said before”). And it is not a lame sidestep involving the phrase “what I said is not reflective of my values.” Those are instances where the speaker beats around the bush to avoid saying “I was wrong.”

A true apology—and one more likely to be accepted (forgiven)—must contain:
1) the words that were said,
2) how those words negatively impacted or characterized those involved,
3) the admission that the wording/characterization was NOT correct,
4) the admission “I/we are sorry” for speaking incorrectly and mischaracterizing a person or group of people,
5) naming the person/people to whom you are apologizing.

What the lady on The View should have said was: “We used wording that portrayed TPUSA in the worst light by assuming that the group was accepting of Neo-Nazis. We were wrong. We should not have broadcast that conclusion because TPUSA is not accepting of Neo-Nazis and did not let them into the TPUSA venue. We are sorry for making such a characterization and we apologize to TPUSA for our comments.”
