Just sat down to paint, and this video shows up. Perfect.

I like the HDF robots, they look human enough for me to not be bothered by the legs. On the other hand I was not happy with the weapons teams, because there's only one pose for each weapon. Meaning that if you want a full squad with the same weapon you have three identical bases. I wish they were designed with interchangeable bodies or, better yet, if you could use regular infantry bodies for them as well.

I like the GRUNT and OGRE robots for the HDF. I think that, since they don't have the same problems with AI as the Imperium from 40K, it makes sense for the HDF to have robots. And it does make sense for the HDF to not be comprised only of robots, imho, since humans are kind of a fledgling race in the Sector, they lack the resources to have fully automated armies and still need humans in the battle lines.
As for their legs, that can be due to digitigrade feet having better mobility than plantigrade feet. We can observe that in nature, and we'd surely replicate that in our machines when we can create motors that can move as fast as joints in living creatures.
At least that is how I read the situation.

I watched the monthly stream from OPR and he said that the robots in the HDF are drones, they do not have AI. So there's this human operator somewhere behind the front lines piloting the drone. I'd rather risk a machine then a human on some missions. 🎮🤖 That's probably why the hacker dude has so many antennas on his backpack he's acting like a cell tower for all those signals. 😂

Huh. The wood elves remind me of the Dark Elves of Morrowind in the Elder Scrolls, with their use of insect chitin for armour. I like it.

my observations of the new stuff:
Hacker: I like the antennae, reminds me of a gaming router
Grunts: They are ok, if they are operated by humans then perfect imo and deviates away from 40k
Pets: I don't mind them tbh with fantasy, dog works with sappers as you said, rolls could be a lot of different things too
Wood Elves: the armor pieces look like they could be carapace from big insects, I dig it a lot, love the owls
Ratmen: the big otter feels on theme for what feels like an homage to the Redwall series of books, again deviates from skaven/warhammer

Has anyone tried their game that resembles underworlds? The one with the hexgrid. Theres the scifi and the fantasy version.

For the Psy Hacker, I immediately thought of the anti-drone EW kits you'll see in Ukraine. Yes, the antennas are huge but that's because they have to be! I would be shocked if the designer hadn't seen one of those real-life backpacks and took it as inspiration because they look almost identical.

I really like the Wood Elves and their "woody" aesthetic. I painted up a set for the contest so we'll see how that goes!

Outstanding content as always homie!!
I love it when worlds collide.... GOOD NUFF mentioning The Fat Electrician while discussing the absolute devastation of a round brown coming at you double time with that KH pointing all 5 fingers at you.....
Time to hit the rack, today doesn't get any better!!

Hey, thanks for the shoutout on the painting competition! I've watched a couple of your videos, but didn't realize you did monthly reviews of OPR, too. Great format, and I'm now subscribed. I'll definitely be tuning in going forward.
