How did you guys miss the one where the Woman of color learned of her ancestor who was sold at action on as a slave! Otherwise this was good thanks
ОтветитьMy Mom’s side of the family are all Jewish. My grandparents and great aunt are Holocaust survivors. They were taken to Auschwitz. Along with there other family members. The 3 of them are the only survivors in the family. My great grandfather was an Orthodox Jew who lived in Israel. My Dad’s side of the family are all from Germany. They moved to America during WWII when Adolf Hitler was in power and creating Nazi Germany. My Grandfather. Along with my Great Uncle and Great Cousin served in the US Army. I was born in Berlin Germany and I came to America when I was 16 months old one week before 9/11.
ОтветитьUp until 2 years ago I thought I was Ukranian. Then I found my great grandfather's immigration paper while cleaning out my mother's house. Country of origin - Vetla, Russia. Now in ESTONIA!!!
ОтветитьI completely understand that most not all, but most humans around the world struggle to accept what their ancestors did. They should obviously have no guilt for any terrible actions their ancestors did because they were obviously not born when it happened plus they obviously had nothing to do with it. Also they should not take any credit for all the positive actions their ancestors have done. Any decent human being around the world with common sense doesn’t want to descend from adulterers, conquerors, sadistic criminals, and slaveholders because they are obviously horrible people. Decent humans want to descend from abolitionists, educators, entertainers, and heroic soldiers because they are obviously amazing fascinating people. At the end of the day they need to accept whatever choices their ancestors did good or bad.
ОтветитьNative Americans were the Palestinians of their time. Who shed a tear for them ?
Ответитьrephrase this cause eliza for sure didnt llose literal brothers..do the math
ОтветитьI grew up not knowing anything about my dads father. I didn’t realize we were Mexican until I was 8, as I had always heard my dad be called “Rudy”, but his name is actually Raul and he is a second. He is the only child my grandma had with his dad, his other siblings are half siblings.
His father was not a good man to him, a bad drunk and did not like my father but seemingly loved his other siblings.
So I went onto Ancestory and started looking into my grandfathers side of the family, as I was always interested in my Mexican heritage.
Not only did I find out where in Mexico that my great grandparents came from, the route they took to Chicago… but I also found out that my grandfather has 18 (yes, 18) other siblings!! All full siblings. One of them died in house fire at the age of 3. Out of the others, my dad only really remembered 3 of them but hadn’t even mentioned them till then. One he remembered, his “Uncle Clemy”, was found to have been sent to a mental institution when he was a young boy. My dad was never aware of this and we don’t know why. It was all very shocking
I told mom not to research our previous generations, but her best friend did and she did too. When she got back to early 19th century she discovered that we had a direct line to slave owners. I warned her, but she was curious. She’s not curious anymore.
ОтветитьPpl believe it doesn’t affect us today. The generational curse. We were in slavery. Smh
ОтветитьI live in Lincoln county ky crab orchard /stanford ky right now but its all Lincoln and i know alot of gribsies they are all over Stanford and Somerset ky
ОтветитьIs everyone Jewish?
ОтветитьMy husband is a direct descendant of Henry Clay
ОтветитьDon't know why I was suggested this video .. but I find all these celebrities to be disingenuous, fake and with contempt for the average citizen ... they jump at the opportunity to engage in class warfare for corrupt politicians
ОтветитьI took one of those DNA tests. My great grandfather on my mother's side was supposedly a quarter Cherakee. My DNA shows no native American ancestry.
ОтветитьMy 13th grandmother is Lady McBeth.
ОтветитьRemember isnotsoreal was not created to protect the jews but to use them in a military army to controle the wealth of the middle east
ОтветитьSadly the isnotsoreal now doing the same holocaust to the gazan remember the racist European antisemitic caused the holocaustnot the palestinian or arabs free Palestine
ОтветитьCool so Edward Norton and I are cousins.. I'm the 13th generation descendant.
ОтветитьMy ancestor banished my husbands ancestor from the country, same ancestor had my friends ancestor burned at the stake for being a witch. I have a very long line of family history stories as I am a descendant of both William the Conqueror and Alfred the Great, two leaders on opposite sides of the same battlefield. I have visited that battlefield. I have uncovered a lot of surprising family stories along the way, some heart warming and miraculous, some not so much. How my family came to be in this country differs depending upon when and where they came from, their station in life etc... They were people doing what they knew, and were imperfect just like us. What will people think of our choices in our circumstances 300 years from now?
ОтветитьWhat’s a reliable ancestry to use?
ОтветитьI learned the name of my bio-father, and that he lived less than 3 hours drive from me (in Texas, that's not considered "far"). I learned I have a half-sister and a half-brother. I don't want to meet them. They probably think their Dad was a great guy. No need to rain on their parade.
ОтветитьMy ancestors were also on the trail of tears, it’s so sad & unimaginable what they had to go through 😭
ОтветитьBreaks my heart what Black people have endured.
ОтветитьAnd yet saddly the history repeat it self and right now in Isreal people (Palestinians) are forced to quite theire homes, being bombarded and treated as animals instead of humans. Shouldn't we learn from history instead of repeating the same mistakes? Wars and extremisms only lead to tears and broken families. Please people, just be human and try to respect each other, we all have families, friends, siblings that we love and don't want them to get heart or something worse. be human.
ОтветитьThe thing I don’t like about Finding Your Roots is that Henry Louis Gates will ALWAYS drill down 75 generations on any white guest to prove that they had ANY connection to the slave trade or were in fact actual slaveholders themselves. Black, Asian, African guests are treated completely differently.
Ответитьthe narrator's voice trails off at the end of each sentence and is so annoying I read the closed captioning instead.
ОтветитьAnd what will be the vids about the Gaza genocide?
ОтветитьMy grandma's father got to Chile escaping from Poland and once he had kids here, he didnt want his kids to be jewish, scared for what could happen. I've always wondered how many relatives of mine were killed during the holocaust.
ОтветитьL L Cool J - One of the most moving and best views on Roots. My Number one pick. Also, this show is absolutely great. Thanks.
ОтветитьSo, Edward Norton is related to Pocahontas, not Elizabeth Warren! 😂
ОтветитьI found out at 62 that I had no German ancestry at all. Via Ancestry DNA, I learned my birth-father was, in fact, an Armenian man. My mother kept secrets. She told them on her deathbed to my sister (hence the dna test). It took an Armenian genealogist to identify my birth-father. I very nearly lost half of my heritage entirely!
ОтветитьWhat about Sunny Hustin? To find out, as an African American, your ancestors we're slave owners.
ОтветитьYou know the women from “the view” hate Lisa ling’s story. They love Jeff Daniels story
ОтветитьLL Cool J is not your real name ...
ОтветитьI live tahlequah, ok native born
ОтветитьI found. out that my great great grandmother, Margaretta Byrde, was a poet and author. I now own one of her books and have copies of several of her poems. I have also found relatives of both my parents going back to the 1600’s. My own tree did not go forward, as I had no children, but it has brought me comfort to go back through the years and connect to what came before me.
ОтветитьMy favorite is when militant black people on the show find out they are white. Also, one person found out their black grandfather had slaves.
ОтветитьIt is intertaining to find out that some celebs like Jeff Daniels ancestors were as big as dicks as the celebs. In daniels case he finds great joy on presicuting people with different political beliefs
ОтветитьPlease refrain from Jews "losing their lives" in the Holocaust. Nazis murdered them. Just saw it. Stay away from passive voice.
ОтветитьIs it ONLY celebrities' that are able to g on this show and I'm sure there are so many other people with a fascinating history
ОтветитьAre there people who do this professionally outside of television shows? Like could I hire someone to uncover the mystery surrounding my paternal great grandmother and her husband's lineage? It's frustrating to run into a brick wall when you're doing your own family tree!
ОтветитьMyeah...Turns out I'm the product of a trist between Satan and Vishnu...Explains the extra arms and horns....
ОтветитьIt's funny how some of these people I've NEVER heard of 😂😂😂
ОтветитьI wish I had the type of money to do something like this. I’m a mutt. It would be interesting to learn about my background.
ОтветитьThis channel SUCKS ASS
ОтветитьAmerica is facing almost identical dilemmas and atrosities since Jan. 2025 and unfortunately either deny it or too ignorant to realize it. One or the othet, no middle ground to hide behind now.
ОтветитьI don't get why it would be so sad to find out you had ancestors who at some point owned slaves or were enslaved. Every continent at some point in time had many enslaved people. It was a common immoral thing. I'm sure almost every person on earth could be linked to slavery at some point in history. Don't see why that is shocking anymore. Its more horrific that there are hundreds of thousands of slaves still in the world today but no one seems to care to much about that. Its only the past slaves of the US that get all the attention.....SMH
