I just stumbled on this video and the news was a gut punch to me. I always listened to KNBR on the way to school in the morning, sometimes would listen all day, especially if there was a Giants game in the evening. 😢
ОтветитьTwo titans! The problem nobody wants to talk about is that it's not KNBR. It's Cumulus that's the problem. These big mega corporations buy up all the local radio stations, gut them and prefer running syndicated national shows instead of local shows. I wouldn't be surprised if they fire Tom next since he's the last tall tree left in the forest. Nevermind his listenership; these mega corporations think they can plug in anyone to get the same amount of ratings.
ОтветитьMy car radio was glued to KNBR. Bruce and Krueg kinda crack me up having to give each other their creds. If we're watching this video, you don't need to do that. I'm in Eugene now and I can get the 50,000 watt blowtorch at night.
ОтветитьI will never forget the night a woman called KNBR and told Krueg, “I just wanted to say that the Warriors are going to have to score more points than Sacramento, if they want to beat them the next time they play. Also… I think a good nickname name for Joe Panik would be “Panik Attack” (He had already been called that for months). Krueg took a two count and deadpanned: “To my radio audience, I just want to say, there are other people still on hold, just so we could get that call in”. 😂 I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so hard. 😂
ОтветитьThey canned Paulie Mac? Knbr sucks shit
ОтветитьIt’s been really tough to listen to KNBR the past few years. Radio is tough these days. There’s no nighttime or weekend radio in the bay anymore. They basically did what 95.7 The Game did earlier this year.
ОтветитьI used to listen to The Ed Bush Talk Show.
ОтветитьI’ve listened to knbr and khtk (Sacramento)..since ..well.. hair metal dominated the air waves…while khtk is still doing…ok..because if the kings …it’s tough being a radio guy these days for sure
ОтветитьI’m really glad I found this. I grew up in the East Bay listening to KNBR. 60 years old, still close enough to pick up 680 for am and pm commutes. I won’t listen any longer. All the money that’s being paid to CEO’s, pro athletes, and to think we can’t pay talent. I’m moving to The Game. You’d have thought the KNBR exec’s could’ve waited a couple of weeks until Xmas Eve. Boo! Booooooo! So many other things to listen to these days, but I’d tune into Murph and Mac. No more. See ya’! Thank you Paulie Mac. And I’m glad you guys landed here. Krueg, I’ve always enjoyed your broadcasts.(New subscriber!)
ОтветитьTwo guys complaining about the death of radio on the very platform that is destroying it.
ОтветитьHoly shit...I forgot Damon Bruce existed. Thank GOD he is done from 3-6. Always the fcking worst
ОтветитьAwesome segment. Loved paulie mac, im not a dead head, didnt care for his tunes about athletes, but i did find him always positive and just glowing with good vibes. I enjoyed listening to him and am very upset with how knbr handled his departure. Looking forward to not listening to them anymore and now listening to you guys. 👍
ОтветитьIt's been over for radio for a while. There's no way out and they'll never be able to be what they were
ОтветитьBay Area radio has went to shit kgo gone knbr shit the game shit
ОтветитьSootsphone 680 was always my favorite I listened every night
ОтветитьI live in Idaho and I could pick up KNBR in boise
ОтветитьI met Kruger at Mel’s burger in Walnut Creek and he was so gracious in the night time drive…that’s the post game giants time,he was amazing
ОтветитьThere is still AM radio? Who knew? I honestly don't know the last time I listened to AM? Maybe 25 years ago? Between satellite and YT, why would anyone listen to the radio? Bemoaning the loss of something 99% didn't know still existed is a bit odd.
ОтветитьKNBR got "Fishered"
ОтветитьThank you both for getting me through drive time..
ОтветитьPaulie Mac was so unlistenable. Sad that he lost a job but cmon, he was being carried at all time. His “know it all” “authority” tone and mentality were a red flag. Anything music, he knew, anything 80s Niners, he was the one upper.
ОтветитьI drive a lot and religiously listened to Damon whenever I was driving. Talk about no young talent, whenever Guru is on, even in a commercial, I change the station. I now goto Greg Papa 10-2 to avoid RAGE takes. Miss the calm, reasonable, and honest takes from ya on the air. Not EZ to YT in the car 🤙🏽
ОтветитьListened to Knbr for 45 years night talk and afternoon drive but like everything else there’s always change but the downsizing and now cbs radio tuneing off boys I’ll see on utube
ОтветитьA lot of bitterness here. There is much wrong with all media fomats but perhaps a little more introspection could help you find a direction Damon.
ОтветитьMy radio was tuned to Knbr 680 for many years ! But once sports ( NFL, MLB , esp NBA ) turned woke. I stopped watching sports and tuned out sports radio.
ОтветитьLooks like KNBR brought Ray Ratto back. Good for Ray.
ОтветитьI think the sports print media might be a good place to look when asking what is going to happen to young sports radio talent. I have heard Stephen A Smith talk in the past about how he earned his way up at philly newspaper, eventually becoming a long time beat writer, then a columnist before making his way to tv. Great for him, but those opportunities are almost nonexistent now. Larry talked about who still has a radio. I have an old transistor radio with a 9 volt battery that I got from SI like 30 yrs ago. It still works. And I'm old. Gone are the days when an announcer tells you the 49ers are driving left to right on your radio dial. They aren't coming back.
ОтветитьMan I was wondering where you went and glad I found you here. I'll def tune in here at 11am. I really miss listening to you on 95.7
ОтветитьMac and Murph sucked, for real. I miss the Razor and Mr. T
ОтветитьHaven’t listened to the radio for eight years since I got my Spotify acct. Why? For what? I can read about my sports team while sitting on the toilet after lunch. I’d rather listen to an audio book, my favorite bands, or even a podcast on my drive to work.
Not starting your own podcast is your missed opportunity dude. Digital has been the future, duh. FYI, I’m over 50.
I was an avid KNBR listener for years, back in what I would consider the golden years of the early 2000’s. The lineup top to bottom was Gary in the morning, Fitz and Brooks at noon, The razor and Mr. T in the afternoon and Damon on Sportsphone. Would literally listen to that station all day everyday to get through work. I can’t even listen to 5 minutes of it now it’s trash. Was bummed when you left Sportsphone for 1050 but enjoyed you having your own show. Was even more bummed when you left for the Game. I mostly listen to national sports stations now which obviously doesn’t give me the region specific content about the teams I root for. I recently discovered your channel and am thoroughly enjoying the conversations. Definitely has a modern Sportsphone feel to it. Thanks Damon, you have a new subscriber in me.
ОтветитьOnce Ralph was cut, knbr started to show itself & the fraudulent "leadership".
The station has gone south almost as much as the fecal state itself.
KNBR the Flame Thrower went down for good when Farrell left! KNBR Theeeeee Sports Leader. Joke now. Copeland sucks, How is he a program director?? Wow. His Daddy got him the job, his Daddy got him the job, His daddy got him the job. Also John Lund totally sucks. Hate his laugh and he brown noses Papa and acts like he knows everything. The only good ones left were Murph and Mac and Tommy T. and Pappa. Thats it. FP was great too. I am done with KNBR. Later days...
ОтветитьThis is such a legendary video haha. Thanks fellas!
Ответить2 weeks late but let's make sure we don't blame copes. This was a Cumulus decision and Cumulus are the idiots
ОтветитьKNBR lost me when they brought on Rush Limbaugh, may he rot in hell and any racists that listened to him. And whatever happened to Radnich?
ОтветитьAgreed with Larry regarding the evening radio. I tuned in to 680 yesterday evening to hear post Thursday night football talk and heard CBS. Immediately tuned out and now will never tune back in on evenings. The station really messed up on this one.
Also, they should have gave Pauly a final goodbye.
Looks like Cope doesn’t know how to steer the ship on content.
Worked at KNBR on the weekends with Kruger and Townsend from '96 to 99. It has been a gradual process in radio but you could see that slowly that once the big corporations started buying up the local stations, they eliminated the higher priced talent to replace them with cheaper hires. Then they removed all the local flavor alltogether and started simulcasting from a central location thus KGO, KNBR etc are now just broadcasting information that has little to nothing to do with the Bay Area. It also make it less of an issue of having to worry about any hosts and caller being critical on the air of the local teams as they have more contral over the content. Similar to what happend to print media. Dj's and radio hosts talking about local things is becoming a thing of the past.
ОтветитьKNBR is trash left when D Bruce left many moons ago, would occasionally listen to Murph and Mac but they weren’t the same without Dibs and P Con!
ОтветитьNot a fan of Mac personally. But a hardworking pro who didn’t deserve this nor did business require it.
ОтветитьI watch this show on my 4K TV
