Haydn is peerless in the classical keyboard sonata as well as several other genre. There I said it!

I was reading the comments about this piece above and whoever wrote it referred to some elements of this sonata as being "Beethovenian." Waa? Jesus, who came first? Beethoven came AFTER Haydn! Haydn is NEVER "Beethovenian! Haydn wasn't imitating Beethoven! Beethoven was imitating HIM. Musicologists need to get that shit straight. Stop acting like Beethoven came before him and calling his music "Beethovenian." Like Haydn was "almost like Beethoven." LOL This really annoys me to no end. HE was the imitator, not them. In fact if you listen to this sonatas second movement, you can definitely hear in the b flat minor section where beethoven got the idea for his 1st movement of the Moonlight sonata. And yet musicologists call this "Beethovenian" --- LOL

Sorry but this a far more nuanced and realized composition than any sonata that Mozart ever wrote

This sonata really sucks. I do not know how Haydn could write such a thing. There is no contrast, all the topics are almost the same, one solid mud.

Here, in my opinion, we are seeing a Rare interpretation....
Haydn's "few notes", with its geometric structures, are Clear, Balanced, and really full of Beauty and Pathos....all visible in the ecstasy of Mr. Brendel's facial expressions....
Pure Art ✨

I think I can hear Mozart and Beethoven in this piece. I wonder which way the influence (if any) ran?

I’m in awe of any one who plays a musical instrument….i know nothing about how one constructs a tune, timing, placing of notes, and actual reading of a music sheet. Keep playing, as I think you’re brilliant!

Excelente Haydn. Extraordinaria versión y muy buena la reseña de la historia de esta sonata ¿de que año es este registro del gran Alfred Brendel? Cuando uno escucha a estos grandes pianistas siempre aprende cosas nuevas. Gracias

This is one of the greatest sonatas ever. The second movement is as profound and beautiful as the best the likes of Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin and Liszt have to offer.
