Things slowed down for Ms. Ross because of Ms. Whitney Houston. It happens to ALL artists. Within a decade, most artists get 3 - 5 years to create cultural influence and impact provided the label actually believes in the artist. They gon be all over tv, radio and they gon do big, grand tours. After that 3 - 5 year period, the industry has to phase the current batch of artists out in order to make room for the next batch of artists. Nah, some artists are the exception, e.g., Ms. Tina Turner (internationally). In the mid '80s, it was all about Ms. Whitney Houston. Labels wanted the next Whitney. They wanted women to sing as high as they could and hit & hold 20 second notes w/ a smile on they face. Anyhow, Ms. Ross started her career in the early '60s. At some point, fans grow up and move on. Like, my grandparents weren't checkin' for new music from Ms. Ross or Mr. B.B. Kang during the '90s. Ms. Aretha Franklin released music during the '90s and folks weren't really checkin' for it. I'm saying all of this respectfully and w/ love because I'd NEVER disrespect these legends. All in all, music operates generationally and everybody has they time, especially in the mainstream music market. I'm not gon see and hear Dru Hill, Ms. Toni Braxton, etcetera the way I used to see and hear them 25+ years ago. My big cousins ain't gon see and hear New Edition and LL Cool J the way they used to see and hear them 35+ years ago. It's not right or wrong. It's life...
