I recently went to Romania and went to a Communism museum, it's so crazy to think it was not that long ago that Romania was under communist ruling.

I don't understand why people think it's a good idea to force women to have kids when they don't even have money

I went to Romania 3 times after Ceacescu was killed. I volunteered in multiple orphanages, and what I saw changed me forever. Even though his regime was overthrown, the military was keeping a tight control on everything, including suppressing religion. Multiple people asked me to bring Bibles but under a different cover. As a foreigner at a hotel, if I wanted a pillow, I needed to give over my passport while armed military were everywhere. I went without a pillow. There were no locks on any doors. A family brought me into their apartment, which was a huge relief. However, on the 2nd day, the soldiers broke down the door to search my things, looking for "illegal radios." Each time that I came and went from Romania, I loaded my luggage up with as much as I could possibly carry and when I came home, I left everything behind. I got 3 children out and to the States.
To clarify, the women were required to have 5 children to help build the grand and pure society under communism. If women were not having children, they were examined and essentially threatened. The people were very poor, and having these thousands of children that they could not afford, the children ended up in orphanages. Even the orphanages where the staff cared, the conditions were horrible.
Romania is a beautiful country with the Carpathian Mountains. I know that the people have come a long way in reclaiming their country over these past 35 yrs. I am an old lady now, but Romania and the people are still in my heart today.
