Kool..... are we planning on going "supersonic"?
ОтветитьYou might need to implement this math to correct the bad flight model when it comes to slips. See my latest video for details.
ОтветитьAbsolutely, I love learning with X-Plane, thank you so much for all the efforts!
ОтветитьThis is why we have beta!
ОтветитьI compare wing sweep to a knife slicing an apple. Pushing a knife on an apple encounters resistance but, if you give the knife an angle and slice the apple makes it much easier.
ОтветитьMaster clase , merci M Austin
ОтветитьAnother Great Video. :)
Ответитьtime to make a supersonic Cessna 172
ОтветитьThanks for the information, and X-Plane 12, but I still love X-Plane 11, all that pay ware, is hard to walk away from, Happy Holidays.
ОтветитьI could watch Austin teach all day. Thank you!
ОтветитьLove it! More aerodynamics lessons please.
ОтветитьXPlaneOfficial, can you please make a separate playlist with Austing teaching and showing us stuff?
ОтветитьSuper cool how much effort they put in maintaining first principles. If only they fixed the turbulence too
ОтветитьI thought the primary reason the swept wing "works" to reduce critical mach is that it lengthens the travel for the air from leading to trailing edge... basically stretching the chord out from 'short and fat to long and thinner.' To illustrate that, the green arrow in the video should be from top to bottom of the image, the direction of airflow over the wing - not the short distance (which is not how the air flows). An arrow showing the airflow direction illustrates the longer travel over the swept wing vs if the wing wasn't swept, and consequently, reduced the critical mach because of the "stretched" chord. I was taught this a long time ago, and the visualization worked at the time, but I'm not an aeronautical engineer - YMMV.
ОтветитьI love Austins work.......Reckon would have got an A in Aerodynamics if he was my lecturer..........
ОтветитьNow compare Austin and his physics knowledge with Devs at Asobo. He literally eats them for breakfast. That is why Xplane will always be my preferred Sim.
ОтветитьMSFS review ??
ОтветитьHello Austin,
I suspect that if you're using the perpendicular component of velocity for force calculations, you're miscalculating drag for swept wings. Specifically, you're underestimating parasite drag and overestimating induced drag.
Parasite drag: imagine 2 identical wings, one straight and the other angled 45 degrees (I'm exluding compressibility effects, so suppose Mach is way below critical): in real life, except for secondary effects, the parasite drag should be about the same. While in RC3, the 45 swept wing would have HALF the drag of the straight wing!
Induced drag: imagine 2 wings with the same area and the same EFFECTIVE span, one straight and the other angled 45 degrees. In real life, for a given speed and a given lift, the 2 wings will have the same induced drag (provided the spanwise lift distribution is identical). While in RC3, for the sweep wing you would calculate an effective dynamic pressure one half that of the straight wing, and an effective Cl double that of the straight wing (hence Cl^2 will be quadrupled), giving DOUBLE the induced drag of the straight wing.
My suggestion is to use the full forward velocity for force calculations, and use instead reduced Cl and Cm coefficients to account for sweep effects.
Asobo is Nvidia and Austin is AMD
ОтветитьHi please can you put xplane on play station
ОтветитьAwesome explanation in my opinion!
Will we get a follow up on supersonic flight?
Hey Austin, MSFS just got the 10 millionth pilot. Whadaya think?
ОтветитьGreat stuff - Many thanks. Minor point - the Bell X1 had a 10% thick wing airfoil - NACA 65-110 with a conventional looking leading edge. The later, also supersonic, Lockheed Starfighter had a straight wing and that certainly did have a super sharp leading edge that had to be protected on the ground to stop folks cutting themselves on it.
ОтветитьAustin makes a great college professor on aerodynamics in addition to his coding skills for X-Plane 12!
ОтветитьHow much of the lift in the F14 comes from the body?
Ответитьmicrosoft may have alot of money and an ai to make their flight sims but they dont have an austin!
ОтветитьNice simplificated Aerodinamic lesson.
ОтветитьThat is a better Physics Class than in Middle School.
ОтветитьI hate MSFS
ОтветитьWhen will X-Plane 12 get its full release?
ОтветитьYes the "THUD"...the USAF Republic F-105 Thunderchief, an excellent example of the use of area rule. Thank you Austin!
ОтветитьThank you Austin! Another outstanding explanation of aerodynamics.
ОтветитьThe simpsons in the back made me laugh so hard, interesting video.
ОтветитьThanks for an(other) interesting video on X-plane, however, it leave me wondering, is delta-wing vortex maneuvering lift (and drag) modelled in XP12, ie. not only straight and level....?
- I think that I remember that XP10 and 11 didn't have vortex-lift (and drag) incorporated, at all....???
I first bought MSFS and I love it. Than I bought x-plane 12. I love it too because it is more about flying. So happy using both. I do appreciate the efforts put into making those sims.
ОтветитьF-5 and T-38 are also great examples of the area rule. Very informative video! Thank you!
ОтветитьMr Meyer, there appears to be a problem with lighting in X-Plane 12. A few weeks ago on a three mile approach (KHWD) the runway was barely visible and I could not see the VASI lights until maybe a mile from the threshold. Today's (12/13/22) download, the instrument panel is so dark the instruments are barely usable and now the VASI light are not visible until the displaced threshold. I've tried other airport and the problem is the same. Yes, I did try re-downloading the program.
Ответитьx plein 12. super.
Ответитьwo ist boeing max 737
ОтветитьVery insightful video and please for the love of God update plane maker to accept 3ds max / maya models natively.
ОтветитьWOW ! That was brilliant, Austin. Many thanks !
Ответитьreally interesting, would be interested to see how you apply that to models in the sim.
ОтветитьLove you ,really get involved I literally know nothing about flying I can't afford to be a pilot can xplanes 12 teach me to fly with my oculus quest 2 you on Facebook
ОтветитьJust updated X-Plane 12 to the latest version 06 and what a disappointment. I was under the impression 06 was to take care of lighting issues, The instrument panel is so dark on the Cessna 172 it's unusable. Talk about flying in the dark on a VFR day. Ever try changing the comm frequency from standby to active, it doesn't work. I've been waiting for the past 9 months for these issues to be corrected. A BIG disappointment Mr Myer.
ОтветитьAustin the best
Ответитьyeah that's all very good and common knowledge. can you focus on the critical stuff an sort out multi-threading in X-plane?
ОтветитьThanks for another classic video.
