It's actually baffling to me that minimum wage work was enough to have a home or rent, i cant even imagine renting at minimum wage much less owning a home
ОтветитьI would rather be poor and be rich in time than the working poor working 60 hours a week and still not being able to afford a house. (Australia)
ОтветитьWhen you indocrinate whole generations of victims from the progressive American transgender education system, you get takes like this.
ОтветитьI know two types of people right now: the ones with 0 jobs and the ones with 3+ jobs.
ОтветитьMichigan factory work is 50 - 70 hours a week or nothing . It's almost a slave camp .
ОтветитьThe issue is obvious: we are living in the greatest wealth disparity of modern history. Work conditions haven’t improved because CEOs and richest 0.01% don’t care. Not only are they getting richer, they’re getting richer faster than they’re ever been. In the US in 1965, the average CEO was paid 21 times the average worker. Today, it’s more than 300 times. If we don’t tax the rich, they’ll buy out everything and leave nothing to the middle and lower class
ОтветитьI relate so much to your work experience. I worked in a large broker-dealer’s investment and wealth management branch in a big city with a bad housing market. I got told REPEATEDLY that I was “doing too much” for the clients. Even worse, I was the target of bullying and scapegoated for others’ mistakes! 2/3 branch managers only cared about themselves, but claimed that we were “one team, one mission” and claimed that they valued the customer but their actions spoke louder than their words, no matter how often they said those things. They got rid of me before I could quit (I’d been hunting for months, but that job market man…). Getting fired was the real cherry, because I’d been shouldering a larger workload than the rest of my team and they lost way more than they saw coming - plus, I was loved by my previous employers and professors in college making having made great grades, done lots of community service and winning contests. To get told not to help clients and blamed for boomers not knowing how to use technology, and boomers’ time theft - it left me speechless with anger!
Thankfully, I’m now at a small, fee only RIA that values treating clients and employees extremely fairly and well. Now I’m not made to feel bad for helping people to my full extent and I enjoy what I’m doing. I’m also actually working fewer hours for the same pay as before (35-40 instead of 55-60). This is in large part because the owner and founder (a very kind and empathic boomer, and hardworking too) isn’t one for hoarding his wealth. I’m so happy to have left the rat race and be able to do good!
I saw my father work for 25 years for the same firm and then they tried to screw him and a bunch of others out of their pensions. My father walked a picket line twice and got his pension but they don't give a fuk about you they don't care if you live under a bridge. The country is run by some truly evil and despicable people that could use their great wealth to build affordable housing and make a better society but forget about that. John f Kennedy was the president when I was born look what we got now
ОтветитьBecause taxes pay for abortion
ОтветитьIt drives me up a wall how College's are more of a risk then a reward. Maybe it is better to just learn a trade, but the idea of someone spending 4 years in college only to not find a job, and then be told "well it's your fault because you picked the wrong thing to study for."
Meanwhile banks can get bailed out but the moment we ask for student loan relief it's time to throw out the insults and excuses.
Honest question everytime i hear about money thats adjusted for inflation for ex a dollar in 1900 is 100 today or what have, im curious if the cost of goods and service is factored in like if a snickers bar from 1900 cost 5 cents and today it cost 3 dollars is the fact that supply and demand along with technological innovations in production, cost of manufacturing and the snickers buisness as a whole completely different a century ago vs today ever used in the arithmetic. I ask because saying buying power of money today vs yesterday is skewed only seems to get part of the story right and not address what the money is being spent on and how it influences inflation itself
ОтветитьWe are headed straight into a mix of 1984, brave new world and pretty much every dystopian fiction ever, completely uncharted territory, and the boomers who grew up in the most stable golden age of human civilization blame us for not being able to handle it.
Bro I understand how generative ai works on a mathematical level and I couldn't even get the damn sysadmin job I applied and was interviewed for. I understand things that would make me a world leading scientist when the boomers were my age, and the only jobs available are the typical LinkedIn toxic sludge with worse pay and benefits than my grandparents had.
Deny. Defend. Depose.
ОтветитьDaym kids nowadays completely suck. What a bunch of lames.
ОтветитьCorporate GREED
ОтветитьHello everybody, how nice this video! I liked it much
Ответить30 years of living to essentially amount to a scarecrow on wheels…
At least I’m helping my mom financially, but then everyone I work with works to support someone else.
I worked as an HVAC technician for Lennox and when I first got hired, it seemed like a great job. On paper, training was on offer to advance my skills, and some very expensive tools were provided by the company. However, the more I worked the job, the more I came to realize how morally bankrupt that company was. I would work from 7am to at the earliest 5pm and at the latest, 9pm. During those hours, I was told to just keep the units barely running for our “full coverage” contracts. All the while offering outrage repair costs for small businesses. I take pride in my work and when I was told to “just make sure the unit runs” for units that were clearly in need of extensive over repairs or just replacement. It would leave a bad taste in my mouth. It soon became clear to me that the company I worked for didn’t care about quality work, rather they cared about their profits and that was it. Not only that, I would not know what I was doing for work the next day until about 10pm or 1am. I didn’t have any social life, my stress levels shot up and felt morally corrupt.
ОтветитьI'm in my mid 40's , I don't want to do it anymore. All the time I can't get back just to get by. I'm a maintenance tech and there's no appreciation very little reward so much personal sacrifice. It's corporate America and the stock market. It's all about commodities and stocks and constant growth. It's all a joke , the government is a joke
ОтветитьThe religions we grew up with taught us to feel worthless. So, bargaining with your boss feels like begging. That's why collective bargaining was created. That's why employers hate unions.
Ответить"Work is different in every generation." So, so true. We are a product of our lives AND times. Meaning changes over time. These "times" seem meaningless. Not to mention cruel.
ОтветитьOf section same carrot, things make no sense because now a market is going backwards. Good is bad, bad is good. Employers gaslight success by cutting expenses and doubling work of employees, now you have AI run amok and used as scapegoat any mistakes that may have been deliberate as United Healthcare denials since the CEO killing. Its unlike the expected economic positives you heard of history, the rules are bending nearly monthly how US does as an economy
Your story resonates how employers learned its not of benefit or serving. Its squeezing the absolute last fraction a penny out of people and have them still stuck in service
Living below my means(expenses) and having a rainy day fund had saved me since last year. Always have a budget and regularly look at what you don't need anymore. A good friend of mine has committed himself to a lifestyle that costs 3x what I can live on and I'm worried for him.
ОтветитьI would like to work but I got crippled… on the job and it’s taken 10 years to maybe get a surgery to fix me… while fighting for disability.
ОтветитьIt’s welfare eliminate welfare and when they get hungry they will work.
Ответитьi've been unemployed several times in my life and the current (past 20+ years) has been a nightmare because of scanning resumes and key words. so much of your videos are helpful in understanding. i'd hate to look for another job now. worked for family bus and thus no reference anyone would accept back to college and thus no current work history. I work in a factory because no one else would consider me. overqualified and under at same time. all ever wanted was to be middle class which is unabtainable for most anymore. so many ghost jobs. once i went in for a low paying job in finance, I was Magna cum laude finally using key words got interview hall was full of suites applying for same. went for gov job secretary told me without minority or disability military had no chance i was just to fill out the number. now no one wants someone almost retirement age. most i know at work just barely getting by
ОтветитьTHank you for talking about and spreading what I'm always thinking about. We need to break the samsara
ОтветитьLoyalty is a trick and it is always one sided. I quit my latest job after 8 years in the company. Total sick days in those 8 years come to about 3 weeks. But i did work atleast 8-10 hours of overtime every month since we were almost always understaffed. And when i quit the ceo did not even come out of his office to say goodbye, he had his secretary hand me my papers and escort me out of the building one last time. They even triedIn about 2 weeks i found a new job where the starting salary is the same as my salary at my last firm after being there for 8 years. I am a foreigner in Germany, not that it matters.

ОтветитьEvery time capitalists come up with a new way to exploit workers, they simultaneously start spreading the old tripe that "nobody wants to work anymore" for the right-wing media to parrot for the masses to latch onto.
ОтветитьThere is no light at the end of the tunnel any more, we just work to survive and that's it

Ответить11 cents per hour? I assume that's when you quit?
ОтветитьWe don't make money. We only collect and exchange a thing for a thing. That is a misperception cast upon us. Go make stuff for yourself.
ОтветитьI think a big thing with many people is seeing whether their job is leading anywhere. Most orgs won't promote from within, and people aren't seeing many gains from their efforts from putting in extra effort. I know this has led many to seek side gigs, which further distracts from their main career. So, if there's little incentive to working hard, why do it? Companies no longer do any sort of professional development with employees, so it's completely up to workers nowadays. Workers have to job hop just to eke out any sort of progression, and too much if that is viewed negatively.
While I do bemoan the poor work ethic of many genzers which I do think is worse than previous generations even for youth, I can also see how the cards are stacked against them.
Poverty level = 30k annually and minimum wage = 15/hour, by design. Meanwhile some suit with a six figure salary gets a 50k bonus on the hourly workers labor. The worker is lucky to get a one percent raise annually. Ridiculously lopsided.
ОтветитьI am a profesional English teacher in my country and the reason I dont want to work is that many students, many cooworkers and most of your bosses are real pieces of shit who will ruin your day no matter what. I worked 9 years and most of those were pills hard to swallow, been unemployed for a year now.
ОтветитьGreed and profits are destroying our country. This is a very powerful video you created. Good job.
