Improper fitting exhaust warms up cowling! Mayday!

During my condition inspection (annual) they discovered an exhaust leak and I had to replace the exhaust. The problem is that these things are not standard, so the new exhaust was touching my engine cowling and almost burned a hole through it. After some research it appears fiberglass is fire-resistant, but could catch fire above 540 degrees.
