I still regreat selling my F3. I traded in a bunch of stuff including the F3, motor drive and accessories the day the F4 was released. Never regretted getting the F4 which I still have, whish I still had both!
ОтветитьI bought the f mount 105mm F1.4 purely on impulse with the resolve to sell off several lenses I just don’t use ….. sold the 85 f1.4, the voightlander 58mm f1.4 and 7Artisans 75mm F1.25 I miss the 7artisans the most …..I won’t part with my f mount 58mm f1.4 ever ! Dam that lens has a look. The most unique rendering autofocus lens I have. I got rid of the 85mm F1.4 because I knew I still had a short portrait lens in that 58.
Anyhow that 75mm F1.25 was soft wide open low contrast and a b$&@“ to manually focus but the results were beautiful when I could nail focus. Fine art kind of lens. I’ll probably repurchase it at some point. Immediately regretted selling it.
My Nikkor 35mm f2.0 AF-D, a humble little lens with unrivaled rendering.
ОтветитьI might possibly be in a worse situation in that I still own every camera and lens I ever bought! I've never part exchanged or sold gear to obtain new gear. Needless to say I own a lot of cameras and lenses as a result. As a consolation however I still use most of them and I've been glad I didn't sell them off ultimately. A good situation to be in I guess but they take up a lot of space 😉
ОтветитьDonate your gear that's not worth selling to your local college that has a photography class or degree. They will lend out to students that need it 👍
ОтветитьFor me it’s the 105 and 135DC lenses when I bought the Z6.
ОтветитьI am well into Z bodies and lenses, but recently acquired a 'mint' D700 so I can play with my 105mm f2 and 135 f2 DC lenses. .... and yes, I also have a bunch of FX manual focus lenses.
ОтветитьIt's time to get the "look" with the lens again instead of editing.
Ответить"Hadn't of"?
ОтветитьFor me its also selling the 58/1.4, which I regret. Same not liking how it handled with the FTZ on the Z7 and rarely using it. I got the Nokton 50/1.0 on the Zf to replace its looks, but while its a different, nice look, I still miss the 58. Even though I have very few 58 keepers to show (mainly shot 85/105/135), I‘m browsing 2nd hand sites now and then and think of getting another one.
ОтветитьI've seen so many comments on utube about people regretting letting go of the Nikon D750. It seems there's something about the look it delivers that people like.
ОтветитьI’m commercially using Sony with my beloved D850. It would seem I can’t let go of 30 years using Nikon. I’ve had the Z6 mk1 and the Z6ii but they didn’t cut it for my line of work.
ОтветитьI still have my first SLR camera -- a KSX Super sold by Sears department store in the USA which was actually a rebranded Ricoh KR-10 Super camera with a Pentax K-mount. After that, I got my first Nikon and never looked back. I still have my Nikon N8008 (F-801s outside of the USA) which uses D-drive autofocus. I still use some of those lenses today.
The good thing about Nikon is compatibility and longevity thanks to some durable, high-quality products.
I did have some equipment stolen later like a Nikon N80 SLR which I still wish I had for sentimental reasons -- It was my camera for some amazing photos and memories. But, at least I still have the negatives.
I tend to hold on to most equipment, but I have given away some to some people who have shown an interest in photography.
As a side note, you have mentioned about lenses having a certain character. I think it would be interesting for you to each pick a camera and lens and show some examples of the kind of photography that, for you, goes with that lens. Do you have a favorite wedding photography lens? A favorite lens for taking sports photos or for music gig performances? I'd like to know what lens and why you think it speaks to that occasion.
Keep up the good work!
Let's just recognise Loz' excellent choice of t-shirt :)
ОтветитьTimely video, I'm just thinking about selling a load of old gear to make space and raise some cash for new stuff. Still have my D700 and D750, but I haven't picked either up once since I got the Zf and want to move to all native z lenses. Thing is, I spent so many hours with those cameras in my hands I feel like I'm letting a piece of me go, the Zf, whilst technically better, doesn't fee like its 'mine' yet.
ОтветитьI’ve not sold anything that I regret. I also still have my canon ae1 sat on a shelf which I bought with my 1st ever wages, there’s no way I could sell that.
ОтветитьWent straight to eBay when you mentioned the 58mm 1.4 😂
ОтветитьI regret selling things that I find I had emotional connection to but only realise that after it’s gone. No way to realise that before.
ОтветитьAmazing conversation. I wish I hadn't bought a lot of gear (GAS) but curiously I never regret selling them!
ОтветитьCanon Ftb, Nikon FM2, Sony RX10M4
ОтветитьMy conon stuff and the 135 f2 lens....a beauty
ОтветитьI’m at a point of do I get the 50mm 1.2s and use on my z6ii and sell my 58mm 1.4 or keep the 58mm 1.4 and get the z6iii to use it on.. I know the look the 58 gives but your limited on composition (everything has to be center compositions and working distance has to be at least 6ft away when shooting at 1.4 or 1.8 ) but that wouldn’t be the case with the 50mm 1.2 would make shooting a lot easier.. so I’m torn lol I get how you must feel about selling the 58mm I wonder if I would fee the same you do right now about selling it
ОтветитьIf you look at the Fred Miranda forum, you'll find plenty of people who have sold the 58mm f1.4G lens once and even twice before buying it again. There's no lens out there that does what it can do. The 50mm f1.2S has similar bokeh, but it still has a different overall type of image (plus it's a huge and expensive lens). I'm definitely more of a collector than I should be (with a very wonderful wife), yet there isn't a lens or camera that I've sold that I've regretted selling funny enough. If you can sell a lens for what you paid for it, no regrets.....someone is keeping it on the shelf for you for another day. But if you will take a big loss on the lens or it's a difficult lens to get used, I think it's best to keep it if photography is a hobby and you can afford to keep it. I find myself rotating the lens of the month and that's part of the fun.
ОтветитьI just never sell any gear. I keep my older stuff as backup or for shoots where stuff could get broken. And when it gets too old I hand it down to relatives or friends
ОтветитьSubject aside, the tone of this video is great. Did you do something special (Picture Control, colour profile)? Or, special lens, or just wait for nice light and at a relatively wide opening shoot far from a darker lush green background
ОтветитьMy gear goes one way; in but never out. I recognise that it is FOMO or GAS or whatever you want to call it. But the fact remains that gear inspires me to go out and shoot. For example, when I think about my Z fc, I am feeling some nostalgia and I am looking for something small to take out, when it's the Z50, I am thinking of something small and comfortable to hold for a long time, when it's the Z7II I'm thinking about the best image quality and ability to crop in,, when it's the Z f I am thinking nostalgia, better grip, and more advanced features... And so on...The fact that I wrote all the above in one go without thinking just proves to me how much I rely on gear to guide my photography shoots rather than the other way around. And if I am super honest with myself, the only gear I need for 90%+ of what I shoot is my good old trusty D800 with its battery grip attached, the 17-35mm F/2.8, the 28-300mm F/3.5-5.6, the 70-200mm F/2.8, and in extreme rare cases, the Sigma 150-600mm F/5-6.3. The reality is that the above is less than 4% of my total gear...
ОтветитьEnjoyable to hear you two banter back and forth on thoughtful walks down memory lane. But now... you're making me wonder about a few things! Cheers gents.
ОтветитьI believe in gear inspiration. Recently I used a vintage E series 50mm lens on my old D3200 and got some unique shots.
ОтветитьI’ve kept my d810 even though I have a Z9 as my main camera. Best thing that I’ve done as I absolutely love using that camera for travel with just two Nikkor manual vintage lenses, a 35mm 2.8 Ai and 105mm f2.5. It just makes sense. For travel and street photography you generally want closed down apertures so focusing isn’t that much of an issue. These lenses are so small and light you could literally put them in your pocket and they’re exceptionally good. The photography experience is amazing. It brought back that fulfillment that I was loosing with all this tech. I cannot understand the Zf concept to be honest. They give you this nice camera but is so heavy and bulkier than the old stuff, there are no lenses for it except the 40 and 28mm which are great but don’t have that feel good factor like the old 70’s lenses that I mentioned before. If you adapt them with an f2Z they become bulkier still. I’ve said it time and again, Nikon should have made a last f mount camera with mirrorless capability and focusing aids. People say that it cannot be done because of the flange to sensor distance but to them I say then how did we have live view in our dslr days? Wasn’t that a pre mirrorlesss tech?
ОтветитьHi Guys Recommend you turn all your Nikon F mount gear into cash via MPB before it becomes worthless!!!
ОтветитьI wish I never sold my D750 and Z50.
ОтветитьIf I find that I'm not using something, then it's a candidate for sale. I owned some very nice f-mount lenses, but they've been replaced with some stellar Z mount lenses.
ОтветитьHasselblad Xpan 2
ОтветитьMy Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8G VRII, I also trade in my D850 for a Z8 and I still own a Canon A1 with 50mm 1.4
ОтветитьI bought a NIKON d850 3 years ago for $2200 Australian 70-200 2.8 FL ED for $1500...and a 200-500 5.6 for $1400.... I sold all of that gear and only lost $250...... I essentially hired a Nikon kit for three years for $250....ha ha ... I'm with FujiFilm GFX now. I don't regret selling my Nikon gear. Nikon DSLR gear holds its value !! Some people are addicted to buying gear and there are some people like me who are just addicted to image quality and when you get cameras that have better image quality you just want it and there is no way I can go back from GFX now it would be impossible. the reason I didn't go into the Z cameras was I didn't feel they were a big improvement over the D850. so I took a little bit of a punt on a fuji GFX 50 S ii and oh my gosh the image quality. buy a Fuji for your street Photography you will love it just a small one discreet 24 megapixels 26 megapixels you can shoot JPEG with stabilisation. I do buy used gear and I get bargains. If I don't like it I sell it and you don't lose much money on it. Sometimes I've actually sold gear and made money on it for me. The hobby side of it is gear but I don't obsess over it. I'm probably now in that professional Photography space where I'm making money from it so I'm not obsessed with gear.
ОтветитьStill using D7000 and works great. Perfect photos
ОтветитьGood to hear that you guys have the same "pain" like me. I am just wondering if I should sell my D850 although I have a Z8 and lots of incredible good z-mount lenses. I have the AF-S 24-70 f/2.8 without VR and I am still fascinated about the image quality together with my D850..
ОтветитьRegrets for me was making the switch to mirrorless in 2015 or at least with the wrong brand.
Last year, I finally experienced the sheer joy of m4/3 cameras and lenses. I should have started with m4/3 cameras in 2015.
And this year, I reduced my full frame gear by 70% by switching to Nikon - something that I should have done a couple of years ago.
I have gone through so many cameras and lenses, that it at least taught me to what I use compared to what I think I want can be the worst reason for G.A.S. The cameras I have now, will last me a very long time because times have changed enough for me to have little G.A.S. to want more or change what I have.
Selling my nikon 200mm f2 lens 😢
ОтветитьI sold my GFX 50Sii recently. The next day I went into a cold sweat and was upset. So I bought it back from park cameras, they were excellent tbh, I bought it back at the price they paid plus £50 admin charge.
ОтветитьAbout 7 years ago I sold a Zeiss 35mm f2 ZF to help pay for a Nikkor 24-70 f2.8 VR.
The Zeiss was manual focus, and while I adored it on my old FE2 shooting film, I found manual focus on DSLRs unpleasant and I wanted a practical 2.8 normal zoom. Now with mirrorless and focus peaking I bet it would work great. Lens had so much character. I recently borrowed a friend’s Nikon Zf, the manual focus assist eye detection makes manual focusing satisfying, fast and reliable. I would love to try that camera and Lens combo but can't afford the investment right now.
If you can afford it buy it, life’s too short to worry about having too much gear. I bought a Z9 the week after my Dad went into a care home, £5050 every 28 days. It’s now more, £73k a year.
ОтветитьNikkor 300mm f/2.8 VR II - fantastic lens and it seemed like wherever I went where I was in a hide setup after selling it, the 400mm was just slightly too long!
ОтветитьOh… D500 w 17-55 f/2.8 - gave away to a friend. D4s w 14-24 f/2.8 - sold as a set for sub 700. Yes, I think we all make mistakes! Lol
ОтветитьYour memory is always more amplified. You remember that lens as better than it really was, or worse. Especially if youre just looking at the bangers. Sometimes a lens leaves your possession for reasons other than you selling it to try something else, those I can understand regretting.
ОтветитьI regret not selling things. When you find some kit at the back you forgot you had and realise you could have just sold it years ago. The one exception being the collection of basically free point and shoot compacts I'd collected from over the decades when spotting them in boxes of junk etc, recently sold a few for ridiculous prices due to the current trends, enough to fund some proper gear. But most of the time you don't get that lucky.
ОтветитьWhat camera and lens did you record your video? It looks great and I love your content. I truly enjoy photography but I am new and still learning.
ОтветитьI regret selling my Z 70-200 F2.8 S Lens but I needed cash NOW
ОтветитьMy wife won’t let me sell anything because I buy it back anyway!
ОтветитьI regret selling my z fc. I was hoping nikon would replace it with a version with ibis. But so far, nothing.
