Gamecube controller will always be my favorite. It fit my hands like it was made specifically for me. They were also pretty tough and sturdy little controllers. I really like the newer xbox controllers too. PS controllers always felt a bit too 'thin' for me. I like having something to grip. That sounded wrong lol.

I always preferred the xbox controller to the playstation controller. Sometimes with fps's on ps1-3 controllers, my thumbs would actually hit together sometimes.

lol I think NES controllers have B before A because Japanese is read right to left(and top to bottom) so A goes on the right. I imagine it was adapted from the Famicom controller which was the same way.

I would say to this day, the XBOX 360 Controller and the PS5 DualSense Controller are probably the best ever. They feel very smooth and have sleek designs that dont feel clunky at all. The buttons are also very responsive and you have plenty of options to work with.

please don't skip the sega saturn Japanese control, the absolute best for samurai shodown and street fighter in my opinion.

the letters appear to be backwards because the Japanese language reads from right to left (similar to Hebrew) and so they wrote the A and B, but from right to left... Afterwards, they just never changed it and it has become part of Nintendo's lore lol.

In the SNES controller the top buttons a hats and bottom bubble so it easier. Was definitely great RnD.

Miss this duo

I use the Advantage when playing shmups, especially those like Gradius. The joystick feels like it gives finer movement especially when moving diagonally.

Thumb Burn on SNES controllers was horrific. The ergonomic design of Sega Genesis and Jaguar controllers enhanced leverage and reduced the impact of Thumb Burn

I had a Hulk controller for original Xbox. It was amazing. Much smaller then the giant heavyweight stock Xbox controller.

My Snes controller from back in the days still works despite me throwing it not only to the floor but stomping and jumping on it when raging around.

My guess on the B and A buttons is that the A is closer to your thumb.

I had one that had a rubbery bottom. There was a little metal lever on the side and when you pulled on it the entire bottom would pull up from the middle creating a strong suction that held the entire controller down. It worked really well.

Would have been nice to see a Ps1 Dogbone controller with no Joysticks, an NES MAX Controller which I'm surprised wasn't in here, also a Gemini controller, Colecovision, Intellivision. Also when they showed the Xbox controller it wasn't a DUKE, that was the huge one. They showed the slimmed down Xbox S version. I guess they can only show so many controllers in each video, but some were missed here that could have been in this video. Also no mention at all of the Dreamcast VMU which is the most unique thing about that controller. They could have also mentioned the 3DO daisy chained controller, CDI remote, cdi weird controllers. I know these were covered in other AVGN videos, but you know. No mention of the GameCube Wavebird wireless controller, although they are rare. Some AVGN episodes that covered some interesting controllers were: Pong Consoles, Virtual Boy (controller), and NES Accessories.
