Don’t more people get that the real winners are the ones that got away from such a toxic business?
ОтветитьNice mass effect soundtrack
ОтветитьYour video was perfect. Thank you so much for being vulnerable with us
ОтветитьNobody
ОтветитьThe only writers that should be on strike lmao
ОтветитьThis is my favourite succession video essay. I’ve been searching for one word to describe what the Roy family is missing that has messed each of them up so intensely, and it’s definitely ‘connection’.
I also really appreciate the realness you put forward here. I related to every personal connection you made to the show. When my dad passed I was in denial for a long time, and I really understood Roman’s breakdown at the funeral. I think the amazing thing about this show is that the audience can relate/connect with the characters despite them being so different from us.
Thanks for the awesome video, cheers!
Do you have Instagram
ОтветитьThank you for sharing that story about your father and for making this great and honest content. May he rest in power 🙏🏽💪🏼
ОтветитьMatteson won, tom was at second place, Greg and Shiv are at a distant third
Logan 'retired', Connor was never in consideration, Roman lost but he never played to actually win, Kendall LOST
Nothing changes, Dickens made observations on people just like these in Victorian times, and expressed them better. Matthew Mcfadyen acted in one of the best of them, 'Little Dorrit'.
ОтветитьI'm a massive fan of succession, it's my favorite show and i've seen it probably 3 times (once all the way as it came out), on my 4th rewatch now. Logans death hit me hard because I had just lost 2 of my grandparents and them being my first big losses family wise. The phone call part made me cry because it felt exactly like what I had experienced. somehow this show got across what many fail to do. great video essay!
ОтветитьThe Last of us 2 music was surprisingly fitting lmao
ОтветитьCulminate IN...Geez, prepositions...
ОтветитьThe How much is a gallon of milk scene is the greatest scene in the whole show. Maybe the greatest television scene of all time in my opinion. It says so much by saying so little. The disconnect between the rich & lower class. How it truly seems like we live in 2 different worlds. It also shows Why Logan ultimately hates his children. They’ve never had to work for anything unlike Logan who didn’t come from money.
Ответитьseriously amazing video. Having grown up with a very similar father to logan (emotionally/power wise, not financially), it's scary how much I can relate to it all. without a mother of the opposite nature, I wouldn't have been able to learn what empathy was, and learned to not admire that transactional, robotic form of love and connection that some use as currency. having to carefully orchestrate through conversations to avoid potential blackmail when you're 10 can do a number on you're psychology haha. Sadly the roy children don't have any examples of reality growing up
ОтветитьI like to believe the old guard (Frank, Karl, and Gerri) and Lukas won against the new guard (Ken, Shiv, and Rome).
The old guard got their parachutes or have control for their future by leaving the family after the deal. Lukas is the new Logan. The new guard is stuck in the loop through the stock ownership but have no considerable power (especially Shiv) or their childish tendencies will hurt them forever. Tom and Greg are just there but have no meaningful play.
Excellent video! I'm glad I stuck around to watch all of it.
Ответитьthe whole show is about how this system, this late stage capitalism, deviod of empaty abuses us, turns us into economic units. remember? no real people involved? roy family is an allegory, it's a symbol for it. why do we need therapy, why do we need fucking antidepressants just to get by every single day? why do we feel we have to participate in our own abuse? succession shows it brilliantly.
ОтветитьBeautiful video. Very original analysis and made me cry.
ОтветитьThe Mass Effect 3 soundtrack making an appearance only made this vid essay better! Amazing work. That phone call episode was brutal.
ОтветитьAmazing analysis! And thanks for sharing your personal story.
ОтветитьJust a reminder that connor was interested in politics from a young age
ОтветитьI know it is strange but I ALWAYS rooted only for Ken. In every episode. Every scene. I don’t know why but I just always did. This is why the end was so heart breaking for me and still makes me think. But it was the best and most logical ending possible.
ОтветитьHey I’ve watched a few videos on succession after finishing it and this one is by far the best, not only did you explain the emptiness at the end of the series but you really made me think about myself and reflect on my own connections. Thank you for sharing memories and emotions of your father, even in 29 minutes you’ve shown why he is proud of you. In the context of my life to my father, who is incredibly close to Logan in many ways, I’m Connor but I’m happy to not engage in the games and that’s my win. I’ve found connections and love through my mother’s side and don’t think about him often at all, luckily. He has an incredible amount of businesses but I don’t want to run that race, I hope Conor finds his peace elsewhere, just because youre on outsider in one circle doesn’t mean you will be everywhere❤
ОтветитьColin‘s eye contact would make me commit fckn everything i did bad in my life 👀
Ответитьcoooooorny and criiinge
ОтветитьThis is a really good video!
A really good comparison with the Japanese culture
This is more than a simple review of succession, is a very deep conversation about life. That happened to me when I immigrate 2 times in my life the second time was more difficult because I achieve a high standard of living due to a great work but then I got little bit lost in how to enjoy it
ОтветитьBeautiful and insightful.
Ответитьhmmm... Lukas won
ОтветитьWe got WAMBSGANS-ed
ОтветитьClearly the winner is Tom Wamsgams.
ОтветитьNEVER rooted for Karl
Ответитьjapan is not a well-behaved place man it's as scummy as nyc here in the states. like for god sakes the characters in succession would throw em compliments on how they treat their workers. like trash
ОтветитьWith the incredible execution of timeless themes like family, wealth, and trauma, I predict Succession will have incredible staying power for generations to come.
ОтветитьThe winners are those not born into the Roy family.
ОтветитьI started fully backing Tom and Greg after the hunting episode where those two and Karl got humiliated by Logan in front of everyone. Tom had the chance to rat Greg out but instead, he kept quiet and saved Greg’s neck - one of the rare occasions in this show where a character isn’t actively looking after themselves.
ОтветитьThis video had me in tears. My father is still with us, and our relationship to him is similar to that of the Roy children (minus the abuse). He is a hard, detached man and we were born lucky. He is very intelligent good at his work, but his familial relationship dynamics are terrible to non-existent. It's gotten worse since his mother passed in 2020. After our parents divorced, the relationship with him has unfortunately frayed even more. I was vulnerable with his this past holiday and received a 6 word reply. I fear the day when the sun sets on his life because so much was unsaid on his side of things and I'll never know how he truly felt.
I'm happy to have heard that at least there were some happy, memorable times in your life with your dad. Hearing stories about his life when he was growing up, remember the things he did to ensure your happiness. We got none of that. The scene when the Roy children learned of Logan's passing definitely had me balling because all I could think of was my own father and the man he is. Thank you for being vulnerable and sharing a difficult time in your life with us.
Massive respect. Amazing video
ОтветитьJust because we sell products doesn't mean consumerism is amped to 11, don't misinterpret and then misrepresent based an incomplete observation. Do you see what kind of news, messages and stories they put out? Saving, conserving is our message. Having products is actually freedom, prosperity and choice for us, not a way to dazzle and extract the poor like it is in the US. Don't comment on things you don't understand well.
ОтветитьLoved the personal touch ☺☺
ОтветитьWow, hit me in the heart man. That felt real as hell
ОтветитьTom won.
ОтветитьIdk how anyone could ever root for Carl to be honest lol. I can see how someone would root for Logan though. He’s the big bad protagonist and is one of the most magnetic and biggest presence out of all the characters. Carl though is shown to be nothing but a sycophantic greedy suit with no redeeming qualities and we never even really see a human side of him.
ОтветитьPretty sure Matsson won lol
ОтветитьThis was beautiful ❤
ОтветитьMy parents divorced when i was 6y.o. Never saw him again. And don't know where he is buried. Or if he is at all.😮 By Dad.
ОтветитьI know this video is a couple years old, but I hope you know that I really appreciate the personal connections you drew in your essay. It humanizes the tragedy of these characters and our overall struggles in this late-capitalist society.
Also, the mass effect music was a nice touch, makes me cry every goddamn time lol
EDIT: WOW Thank you all for 10k+ views! I am honored and in awe to receive such a response for my latest video. I love seeing all the comments too and I will try to respond to as many as I can. I appreciate all the comments and support!
Hey everyone! Hope you enjoy this video! Succession has always been a great show and season 4 elevated it for me in what it meant for me on a personal level and why it's an amazing show. Really excited to see how it turns out and love all the theories on how it will end.
Let me know what you thought about the video and what you think about the show!
My next video will be Ted Lasso followed by Tears of the Kingdom and Barry. Stay tuned and ways to support me are in the description.
Take care and see you all soon!
