I am 16 minutes into this podcast and pausing to make notes. My story as a young girl had different undertones but the same outcome. This talk is grounding me as I think about what to say to several young teens who are my favorite students that are testing dangerous waters...thank you for sharing so much truth in these interviews!

Doug talks about his faith. But I think if Jesus was to hear Doug he'd be like, "Uh, not exactly, dude".

The #1 indexed phrase in the Bible is "help the poor". But now Doug has a business charging people to get healthy?

The world doesn't need another guy charging people to get clean, to learn how to get healthy. Why, please tell me why, aren't there more people helping others for free? I'm reminded of the old line, "There's no money in helping poor people".

The great Daniel Berrigan helped others for free. His message was free. He was a priest who helped anyone.

One more. A big reason why we're in the state we're in is because of organized religion. In particular, Christian nationalists. These people want to take away our freedoms. They're looking forward to the world ending. For them, the more chaos the better. 80% of them voted for Trump.

If Rich is going to give a forum to "faith", code-speak for organized religion, it's only fair he talks about the B-side - the destruction happening in the world all in the name of God. The freedoms we're losing, in the name of God.

From Katherine Stewart:
"Let’s call it by its true name: religious privilege, not religious liberty. Today’s Christian nationalists want the ability to override the law where it conflicts with their religious beliefs, and thus to withdraw from the social contract that binds the rest of us together as a nation.

"This kind of religious privilege has a history. In the Jim Crow south, for example, when black doctors and black patients were routinely shunted to inferior hospitals, many people justified the practice in terms of their sincerely held “biblical” belief that God intended for the races to be forever separated.

"Religious privilege of this sort was never intended for all belief systems, but rather for one type of religion. Sure, its advocates will on occasion rope in representatives of non-Christian faiths to lend the illusion of principle to their cause. But the real aim and effect of the religious liberty movement is to advance their idea of religion at the expense of everyone else".

Jesus, the original hippie, didn't charge people for his message. He helped people at his expense. He had nothing to sell.

Doug would do well to follow in his foot steps.

One more. Doug's website has quotes about social media - "are you feeling lost on social media? social media getting you down"? Something like this.

But then, Doug wants people to, you guessed it, follow him on social media!
Oh.
Em.
Gee.

Doug might as well be handing people cigarettes who want to quit smoking.
