I blame Tim Maia. He was huge in Brazil in the 70s after spending some time learning the ins and outs of soul in the US. He mixed it up with Brazilian sensibilities and featured bass heavily. His nephew, Ed Motta, puts bass even more front and center in his music and was also a big name in Brazilian music. Both Tim and Ed's work was seminal for pretty much all Brazilian music that came afterwards.

Most of this is gibberish with no melodic content. It’s like ordering a hamburger and getting one with the best bun, the best lettuce and veggies, the best cheese, the best sauce… but they forgot the meat.

Take a look at 1970's brazilian soul music and mpb(popular brazilian music), I guess you'll see what inspires these talents. Thanks for this vdeo.
