While hiking through Colca Canyon, Rosé taught me how to recognize a wild fig tree. She pointed out the leaves, the shape of the branches, and even how to check if the fruit is ripe. It’s easy to overlook, but incredibly useful. Some trees had unripe figs — not good to eat. But others offered sweet little snacks for the trail. It made the hike feel more connected to nature. Knowing what to look for adds a fun challenge. Who knew plant ID could be so cool?
