Also back then there were vtubers made to promote products/etc. Akari Mirai was basically Bandai's spokes-vtuber

I followed a lot of vtubers from back in 2017 era, a few of them never even got a graduation stream, they just stopped. People have no idea how much better it is for vtubers these days. Kizuna Ai really took a bullet for the entire industry with the whole China debacle and even though it pretty much killed her, it made it so that it wouldn't happen to anyone ever again. Shiori's Oshis are all from the time when vtuber meant vtuber and not vidol and I respect that. Makes sense why she didn't name any of Hololive as her oshi since she was watching vtubers from before hololive's time and hanging out with indies.

Yeah I'm dreading it cause like even with coco or rusia for the sake of hololive like they werent my oshi or anything and of course they have other lives now but it still sucked to see them go and i can feel now that some of the ones i follow more closely i feel like now that they are going on 3-5 years in the business i can kinda feel some of them might be leaving in the next couple years

MAN... I just watched this and while browsing through the comments to learn who her Oshis were I came across a very familiar HANJO HANJO... Man I used to watch so many vtubers.. after I had to focus on school and stopped for like a few years.. I can't believe how times flies.. Man hard to believe i keep forgetting in her previous life she collabed with Kemono Miya.
Her previous family pretty much barely exists now scattered and independent. Her family pretty much pioneered Vtubing as a whole. I really miss them. Unfortunately the person that i thought had good synergy with her pastself. I guess ended up being her boss and wanted more. Ashamed to cuz that Person is a wonderful Vtuber herself. Interms of the actual founder, she let stress get to her and well she got wiped off the face of the earth and retired.

But the moment i heard about this debut. The moment i heard her voice. I felt like home again. Man i miss fhe young years of Vtubing, man i feel old, man i miss all those people she talked about.

I feel like even nowadays, companies still demand results in one way or another, even if hidden behind contracts.
But if that was from the time before the boom 10k within 3 days is just unreasonable, I think hololive at some point would guarantee 3D if they ever got 1k+ subs (nowadays the bar is prob much higher, but you get the point)

Shiori is the reason why I watch V-Tubers in the first place. I watched a few minutes of her PL, thought nothing much of it. But then I get recommend a few days later the Korone English tongue twister clip, and that dragged me down this rabbit hole.

Over the years, many past vtubers, before the term was coined and became an industry, many left, some have completely abandoned it, some were reborn.
A few years down the line, more and more will retire/graduate. There'll probably be a time when most of your favourite vtubers/oshis will be gone, maybe for good, to start a family and whatnot, after all, Holo members aren't always that young.
Just consider Shiori, she has some of her first videos as a vtuber 6-7 years ago, and I remember seeing something about her being in university at that point, but I might be wrong.
Speaking of retired vtubers though, does anyone know anything on Mano Aloe or if she's doing something else now online?


How might the "vtuber" term look and what will it be like when most of the absolute OGs of vtubing in general will have left the stage?
