I use used motor oil to protect exposed metals, just paint on wherever it's needed. Also on exposed wood but sparingly.

I'd pour that oil thru a couple coffee filters first to eliminate some of the contaminates.
Use in a well-ventilated area, and DO NOT BREATHE FUMES!

I’d be worried about carcinogens in the used motor oil being released when burning it. Definitely want to make sure the fumes are vented to the outdoors.

This will keep the mosquitos away for sure.

If just want a hand warmer/stove,, maybe baby heater I made a vegetable cans gasifier, holes only at top of inside can. Went with baked beans can inside for height and gallon can outside. Strip the strands of fiberglass cloth to little threads and "birdnest" inside 2/3 way up. Add oil to bottom with a little on the nest for a thin amount. Newspaper usually lights it. As the top burns it steams the lower oil to burn. The top only holes are because the water in the oil will foam bringing small amounts of oil with it to burn at the top. A fixed turbine with air intake holes just below it may be a good idea shortly up the chimney for an afterburner effect should one use it for a heater.

I've tried some expired olive oil mixed w/ lamp oil in my 2 lamps like yours, but it seems to have stopped working. I'm going to get a gallon of kerosene & add to whats left of my expired olive oil. Have you experimented w/ used cooking oil/s? I've been wondering about this use for used cooking oil/s for a while. What do you think? Thanks for sharing. Take care from Tn, - Leeroy

As soon as the lamp oil burns off the motor oil will not wick up. It will go out.

If you keep your wick to a minimum it won't smoke . If it's to long it can't get enough oxygen for the amount of surface area and it will incomplete burn . Also replace the glass with stainless steel mesh and you can have a bigger flame . Thank me later ! 👍🏻

I think the heavy motor oil sank to the bottom and you just burned the kerosene till it was gone

You need the glass globe.

just mix 50/50 with kero or deisel

That wick has zero chance. This does not work long term. You could thin the oil with 10% diesel and run it through a fine gas filter though. The wick will last much longer.
