Last year, I had noticed the bug zapper wasn't quite zapping. When initially plugged in, it would make a loud zap that would go for about a minute, but then after that, nothing. It was time to see if anything can be done for this.
Fortunately, it did open right up. But inside, there's a crispy critter, a capacitor or MOV, burned up. There is no marking, no capacitance rating, nothing at all.
The model number of the unit is 833.1434. Part number 515425 is what I need. That part is completely unobtainium with no description except "capacitor". I searched high and low (a feat not many can even attempt these days, especially with Google at their fingertips), and the only thing I found was some guy who had stated that the part is most likely a 7-10kV, 1 microfarad Metal Oxide Varistor.
Please! I need help with this, I'd love to fix it! Does anyone have any ideas? Would be a shame to waste such a vintage unit over a small part like that.
