Yeah that last scenario is why i always have a fun time when talking about america failing to a conquering force. Most people dont realize how well defended america is cause there were only really 3 major conflicts and all of them took place on the eastern coast line, but basically after the Louisiana purchase and the great expansion west pretty much sealed the deal for anyone having a hope to fight us on our land. U have to large and expansive mountain ranges and on top of us is a frozen almost tundra landscape that, the type to have destroyed armies in other lands with similar landscapes and quiet literally been the major turning points in wars. Hell its almost impassible by land durning winter months if it went for the maintained infrastructure, and thats all without even mentioning the frequent storms that sweep up the coast that batters the area. Hell the lakes in that area are known for having claimed almost as many ships as literal oceans. And going through central america could be a thing but we have spent the better part of the past 30y destabilizing the area to the point were u would have to conquer that first all to get to more mountains and plain areas were the people have literally more then half of the entire worlds stockpile of munitions. Its not a fools errand to try to conquer america its next to impossible, even if u could get the rest of world on board and willing to commit the atrocities and commit the manpower and funding to take on the usa. Hell even nuclear has its issues. Part of the reason nuking japan was so easy was the fact its an island and we could easily deploy the planes from carriers and then fly then back when its done. The distance coast to coast is over 12000mi. Sure the coast could be bombed but the best subs currently only have a max payload distance of 4500mi, planes taking hours to fly and drop then flying back without detection/getting shot down is basically a joke. No one will ever invade america. Not on the ground in our own turf at least not because know ones brave enough but because there not stupid
ОтветитьHardrada was doomed by the weather we got. His only hope(and what I assume to some extent was being banked on) was William getting there first and battling Godwinson. So either Hardrada would be fighting the native Anglo-Saxons in a weakened state post-fighting William and could with a bit of luck pull it off(which is what William did IRL) OR Godwinson would lose and it would be two foreign invading forces except one would be fresh and the other battle bruised, extremely favorable to Hardrada even with the base disadvantage as William would soak up the worst of the local resistance in the south.
ОтветитьRomans in that st3am tim3lin3 were 2 steps ahead
Ответитьpersia had no slavery, so that is one advantage
ОтветитьFor the 10th it might be cool to see what would happen in the US stayed “neutral”the entire war and like what would happen as more and more refugees and radicals of the Axis’ wars made it to America. I guess it’d probably lead to like what if the Cold War spy and proxy shenanigans was against the Axis instead of the Soviet Union?
ОтветитьResponse to the Ming sails to America section:
There was something that could have happened if such a journey happened, an earlier introduction of Old World Diseases into New World society.
Yeah, the chances of the Government sending such voyages are about as small as Darth Vader’s sense of mercy, but that impact does deserve some acknowledgment.
With the Harald Hadrada scenario, what if Harold Godwinsson stayed in the south and waited for the Normans, defeated them, and then went to Stanford bridge after and then lost. The way I predict Harold Godwinsson to beat the Normans is that he remains in control of his shield wall so they don’t charge down or William does actually die when everyone thought they did.
ОтветитьState anthems part 2 where's it at
ОтветитьWe had a third bomb, look into the third shot bomb, it was planned to be used on Tokyo but the Japanese surrendered.
ОтветитьWilliam, master strategist. His strategy, ran at it on pony = win?
Ответитьitalians also claimed nice and savoy as italia irredenta.
ОтветитьStill, none will ever be stupider than "what if the USSR joined the axis?"
ОтветитьWhat if Vermin Supreme couped Hitler?
ОтветитьQuestion: Where is this list of industrialism pre-requisites from? It's a surprisingly niche topic, that I've been on/off looking into for a writing project, but thinking of explicitly these things is hard in a vacuum, lol
Ответитьfor the man in the high castle thing, my favorite spin on that is hoi4s “the new order”, it’s in a similar vein of “what if the nazis won” except they basically beat the soviets and the british, but the us is fine. it’s a cold war between the germans, japanese and americans, with soviet splinter states, potential revolutionary former allied nations etc. overall, i think it’s pretty interesting and a much more realistic (even though germany winning at all is pretty much impossible) take on the idea, imho
Ответитьone alternate ww2 scenario I sometimes think about it where ussr remained germany conquered england but still got bogged down on the eastern front which stalled and left a somewhat broken ussr. I imagine that in such a scenario we would have cold war between the allies and axis, a cold war where the US and USSR and maybe china are allies against the axis powers. You could also get into more fun stuff like the british monarchy going into exile in loyalist colonies where as the mainland is turned into a fascist dictatorship of sorts.
ОтветитьMain thing on Downfall to me: A clarification of terms would have changed things massively. The council was split between acceptance and acceptance as long as the Emperor kept his position. Imagine no bombs, Soviets invade, Japanese go “we should clarify” and send diplomats. Very quickly, the negotiations would probably or certainly reveal that the Americans had very little intent to actually depose the Emperor as what happened historically. New constitution for more democracy, sure. Emperor as a god? No. Still in power? Yep.
Edit: I do want to clarify that with that in mind and how determined parts of the military government were as well as McArthur’s demands for an invasion, I think Downfall was technically possible but highly unlikely. So many things would’ve had to go in such a way the resistant faction in the government stayed in power. Main difference being that once battles were lost on Japanese soil fully and the IJA routed, peace talks probably would’ve started very quickly.
Yeah, gotta agree with you on the "Man in the High Castle" scenario. Wolfenstein: The New Saga is slightly more believable, and even then it gets away with it by making America a puppet state rather than outright annexing it, and the Nazis only manage to win in the first place thanks to a ruthless sociopath in the Nazi's science department essentially saying "fuck ideology, we need this 'Jewish magic' if we're gonna win" and stealing incredibly advanced tech (i.e. nukes, lasers, antigrav and robots) from a secret JEWISH society, the hypocrisy be damned.
ОтветитьAmerica had an island airfield gearing up to drop more atomic bombs if necessary. The US had more than 2 bombs.
ОтветитьPacific coast of north america having no value? Have you examined the life styles of the pre-colonization native americans in the pacific northwest? And the gold rush? Had the Chinese came once there was plenty of reason for them to come back again ... now conquering and staying I am not so sure ... but it worked for those who followed Lewis and Clark so why not???
ОтветитьThis video is bad icl half these things are more than likely
ОтветитьBruh most of this video feels like "This alternate history is dumb because it is not accurate to our history."
Like yeah man. That's literally the point.
I know there's a difference between "What if this political figure died early?" and "What if this nation had a completely different ideology?"
But that's why it's a l t e r n a t e .
The video even saying "This would be a cool idea, but-" Kinda.. already kills the following argument? Alternative history, more often than not, is to be cool, or food for thought.
Hoping to see a flux of Roman Empire fanboys angrily flooding this comment section right now.
ОтветитьAmerica would have still made the bomb without Oppenheimer it was inevitable
ОтветитьIs there another way that the south could have got england back them? Cause I don’t think the iron clads woulda done capput to the Royal Navy
Ответить1. Yeah, he had bigger fish to fry.
2. Rome Industrializing was never going to happen for 1 very simple fact: Italy has low amounts of poor quality Coal. Britain industrialized as quickly as it did because Wales has some of the largest supplies of one of the highest quality coal in the world.
3. I see this scenario working less as "What if Godwinson lost at Stamford Bridge, then Hardrada marched south and beat William." And i see it more pheasable as "What if the Wind wasn't shit and the Normans and Vikings landed around the same time?" Godwinson would have marched south first to beat William because William was closer to the strategically important stuff than Harald was in the north. In this scenario, Hardrada marchest south quickly because he hears that the Normans in the South are fighting hard. Hardrada moves for Lundenburg first to force the weakened winner to rush the city to before he can get there and take defensive positions. In this scenario, he is picking off a weakened winner of the battle of Hastings, rather than the other way around.
4. Silver from that Treasure Cruise has been found in both North and South America, but there are plenty of reasons how that might have happened.
5. Yeah, that one is a bit too silly.
6. Yeah, i can see ways it might work, but they are very fanficcy, like "What if Britain wanted to seize the US' resources and means of production?" But at that point, they aren't siding with the Confederacy, they are entering into a 3 front war.
7. Yeah, that's another one of those "It works in theory, until you realize it that the people are severely shooting themselves in the foot to do this." Much like the last one.
8. Another "A lot of shit has to happen for this to work" But the most realistic version of this is the "What if Trotsky actually managed to beat Stalin to Soviet Leadership?" Because Trotsky was far less paranoid and far more in favour of "The Global Revolution" So there's a good chance he may have thrown a LOT of power behind the Communst factions in the Spanish Civil War. But it's equally likely he would have refused aid due to the Democratic party being the actually legitimate one.
9. I mean, if the Officers Coup had SOMEHOW worked (I know this is also stupid, but go with it) I imagine the landings would have happened. Like, i can see the Officers like "Well shit they actually did it. They fucking landed and holy shit we are not prepared for this... Yeah fine, surrender" But i don't see the last bitter stand of the samurai happening.
Australia winning the emu war is the least plausible
ОтветитьTo add to the unrealistic nature of the Man in the High Castle scenario, this scenario assumes no one would have saved the American economy without FDR. It's entirely realistic and even arguable that the New Deal didn't have a major effect on the health of American economy, just a shift in class power, since the US made so much money off of the foreign wars in Spain, Asia and then the Second World War. It assumes that the laissez-faire economy without FDR wouldn't just bounce back like it had before (of course, it would have taken much longer), and worst of all, it assumes FDR was the only politician who had the New Deal ideas. Really? No other politician had the idea to add more economic power to the government? A fascist revolution funded by the victorious Germans in the late '40s and early '50s is so much more plausible.
ОтветитьBro...i have baots landing at the beach with a bunch of illegals jumping off and running off...our coasts are so expansive, it would hard to stop a total invasion
Ответитьi subscribed because ur vids are honestly great
ОтветитьMake an alt history vid of what would happend if the German Confederation survived. I know it's dumb that's why I put it here.
ОтветитьI’ve always wondered what the 15 total prerequisites for industrialization are. Ad far I’ve searched I haven’t seen a list with 15 of them. What would they be aside from the ones already mentioned in the video?
ОтветитьA week after jaguar warriors make landfall. They die of European diseases. 😂😂
ОтветитьThe thumbnail is kinda dumb as well, though. Saying alternate scenarios are "not happening" is like saying water is wet. If they were to happen, they weren't alternate, so... yeah
ОтветитьA fascist American government? What a ridiculous and dumb idea. looks at the camera
ОтветитьYou're overall correct on the Japanese surrender, but there are a couple of additional points of nuance. One, part of what the Japanese were hoping to achieve by resisting the unconditional surrender was to keep some of their conquered territories. They hoped if the potential losses were high enough, the allies would be willing to make additional concessions. With the Soviets taking Manchuria, the odds that they were going to keep it went down dramatically. As well, they were hoping the Soviets would be willing to act as intermediaries between Japan and the allies. They had been making overtures to Stalin to intercede to help them negotiate a more favorable surrender. The Russian invasion was an extremely clear no.
ОтветитьMan did you ever fuck up the Operation Downfall one. The Soviet invasion of Manchuria basically just rolled over an army stripped of equipment and troops--they ABSOLUTELY surrendered because of the nuclear attack. Manchuria was a sideshow.
ОтветитьVery glad Man in the High Castle made your list. I would point out that Nazi sympathizers enabled the Eastern regime, in a parallel to Vichy France. But, you're absolutely right that a dominating occupation of the US would be straight-up impossible.
ОтветитьDo the finno Korean hyperwar
ОтветитьNothing ever happens…

ОтветитьNo mentions of the Italians in Spain?
