Because of 1 Cor 15:3-7. The christians for the first 20 years had a pre-Pauline creed that declared jesus atoning death annd resurrection and dared ppl to fact check them because hundreds of eye witnesses were still alive by 50AD. Jesus resurrection was common knowledge. Thats why so many ppl gave up everything in the first century. Its terrifying when you realise the implications of that one scripture...and theres so much more.
ОтветитьBoth Voddie Bauchum and Wes Huff should have been in this conversation.
I've never seen Voddie have a conversation with Jordan and would very much look forward to this.
“I choose to believe the Bible because it is a reliable collection of historical documents written by eyewitnesses during the lifetime of other eyewitnesses. They report supernatural events that took place in fulfillment of specific prophecies and they claim that their writings are divine rather than human in origin.” - VB
I appreciate Jordan but he interrupts too often.
ОтветитьJordan need to talk less and let the people talk
ОтветитьHow Do You Know The Bible Is True?
~~~ Truth is One, ALL-inclusive! So anything that you want to name is a feature of Truth!
So the Bible is is a feature of Truth, and a bit of it actually happened.
self-indulgent academic circle-jerk
ОтветитьI believe He is true, therefore I know the bible is true.
But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing, ye might have life through His name.
John 20:31
Notice the words "might believe" and "believing"
You have everything to gain if you decide to trust in Jesus Christ, you have to put an end what you believe in now though
I truly believe all the current and coming dislikes on this episode are from people who just can't comprehend what's being discussed. The level of both intelligence and mutual respect is inspiring. Of course an utopia, but I would even go as far as saying this group of people would do a better job at guiding the world, looking at the current crop of world leaders.
ОтветитьIf you accept that God exists and created everything, then a single miracle is easy. It poses no rational obstacle.
Did God ever tell us what the laws of physics are? No. So we don’t know what they really are, which means we can’t claim that a miracle breaks any of them. We don’t even know if the laws of physics are “laws” in a legal sense, which means that maybe there is nothing to “break” in the first place.
Note, the idea that miracles break any laws did not come from the Bible but from the philosophers Hume and Spinoza, neither of whom believed in the God of the Bible.
Ironically, some people are turned away from belief and justify their unbelief by referencing the miracles; these are Atheists. Although, they are judging these events by their ears, not their eyes. It is a natural part of human psychology that when we see with our eyes some thing that is apparently or really supernatural, it seriously nudges us to believe in the supernatural.
Whether natural or supernatural, the perception of an unexplainable event simply means you don’t really know how reality works…and how deep does that go? You don’t know. So, at the least, this undermines any confidence that God does not exist.
The Bible is is true because of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. This truth drove the apostles (ordinary, simple, people) to leave the relative comfort & security of their daily lives and challenge (dangerously) the beliefs of their own communities and confront a powerful empire in which they lived.
As a result, all of the apostles (except John) were martyred for this truth. They were beheaded, tortured, flayed, sawed in half, hanged, stoned, stabbed. Absolutely butchered. And despite this, the truth prevailed and inspired others to follow the same route. The truth defeated the pagan Roman Empire and turned it Christian. The truth spread throughout the world, not due to military conquest, but because "The blood of the martyrs is the seed of the Church." The apostles, and many saints and martyrs after them, imitated Christ and sacrificed themselves for this truth.
Human History is not centered on powerful military leaders like Genghis Khan or Alexander the Great. Instead, it is centered on Jesus Christ. The God-Man; the Creator who entered His creation as a humble child so that He may die. On the cross, Christ turned the once tool of death and despair into a life-giving symbol of hope. Jesus Christ vanquished death by His own death so that we may have everlasting life.
In the face of an evil and murderous world, and against all odds, this message still prevails.
This is how I know it's the truth.
Saying that x cannot create x and has to be created by y also applies to God. It would just be moving the timeline one step further back. Furthermore with regards to the existence of human values and morality, it is a highly complex thing to understand. Throughout history the someone would say "look at how wonderful this thing is, surely it cannot have come about without the divine grace of god" and then someone comes along and says "well no look this is actually how it works and here is the evidence". Humanity has explained away all the low hanging fruit, and now what is left are aspects of reality that are very intricate and complex. These will require knowledge and theories that are very difficult to uncover. Slow progress doesn't mean it is unexplainable and requires a God. AI for example took a very very long time (wrt computer chip advancement) to create the software for, and I believe AGI is still quite far away, but eventually you'll reach a point where there will be a so called inflexion point event and the curve of progress will convert from logarithmic in nature to exponential. Perhaps we may never understand the seeds of morality and human values, but that doesn't mean that it comes from God. If we claim that then it is batting a blind eye to the entire scientific process which is founded on the framework of evidence seeking. Our mind plays many illusory tricks but as we become aware of these tricks we can account for them in our behaviour. We don't discard evidence and remain at the whims of such illusions. Same goes here. The lack of a good explanation is either the lack of knowledge or framework to fit that knowledge in. The problem is in any given period of time in humanity as certain things are explained away new things will appear that require explaining. Perhaps we may never reach the end of knowledge, but at least we pursue it. God is only the end of knowledge because the religious individual has decided it is the final answer to everything, showing a lack of faith in ones scientific abilities or profound laziness.
ОтветитьI LOVE how they are SO curious, get SO passionate and then they laugh, releasing the build ups of tension. And on and on it goes. I'm so immensely grateful for the ability to "be a fly on the wall" for these conversations as I struggle to find anyone in my life that I can actually have these types of deep and fruitful conversations with. These men are brilliant, and less interested in claiming their superiority or their rightness, and more interested in revelations and discovering truth! Oh, it's so valuable for me on so many levels. Thank you! Bless you!
ОтветитьThe problem with this conversation, as deeply intelligent as it is, is the absence (in their thoughts) of the supernatural context of the Bible.
The fact that the bible documents the activities of supernatural beings (gods, angels, sons of god etc) and many times refers to them as God’s enemies is a context that if properly considered would give proper conversational understanding to the Bible's "Miraculous".
As long as you take no stock in the writings of Paul, you will have a better chance of seeing Jesus clearly!
Since Paul tried to destroy the teachings of the true Jesus, not the so-called spirit that talked to him as also talked to mohamad.
I'm curious regarding why we have to even know whether the Bible is historically true or not, for symbolically it is dense (Although I'm not a christian nor a Muslim or anything nor an atheist but something like a mystical/spiritual individual whose notion of the divine isn't the conventional understanding of theism but something that transcends both theism and atheism) but still, I believe that Bible or any other religious text to be inherently profound where it has to be, in the domain of symbolism. And reading mystical exegesis of these texts will scream the veracity of what I'm saying. If you're curious, read meister Eckart, He's a Christian mystic.
ОтветитьAnother great question for yourself, if you get to heaven, the afterlife, what do you want it to be? If your answer is Messiah King Jesus the center of all existence and life ruling for ever and ever, and anything else would be absurd, that’s pretty much the right track. Is my guess anyway.
Ответить它只是後人所寫.
ОтветитьIf I remember correctly, Christ said, "Resist evil", not "overcome" it, nor "integrate" it, though, learning to resist it we may, both, overcome and integrate it, as a side-effect. The point of resistance is to hold it at bay long enough to establish a barrier region by which to modulate its pressure. By correct modulation you can USE it as a sort of energy source. By incorrect modulation you can create monsters that use YOU!
Ответитьwell, I could have told you that... (Does anyone know what they are talking about?)
ОтветитьReading these comments just reminds me that these talks are not for Christian fundamentalists.
ОтветитьIf Christ is not risen, then our faith is in vain
ОтветитьCouldn't stand Pageau ever since he wrote that piece on "conspiracy theorist" couple of years ago at the height of the plandemic. He also often seems to me like he's always "analyzing" things intellectually and/or philosophically and doesn't really believe in Christ.
ОтветитьWhat the hell is Konstantin Kisin doing there...? Oh I understand...
ОтветитьChristianity is mostly based on wishful thinking!
ОтветитьWho said that consciousness isnt "of" the natural world? From what do you derive this?
Ответить"The result of total self-giving is not death, it's LIFE", that's the essence of existence!!!
ОтветитьThere is exactly ONE, and ONLY one way, to know that the Bible is true.
The Lord God manifests His Word, in supernatural signs, wonders and miracles today in the lives of His children, in the same way that He did in the Book of Acts in the Bible.
He exactly does that!
Everything else is intellectual conjecture.
Konstantin Kisin but no John Lennox??? I don’t even dislike Konstantin or think he is not intelligent but what can he add?
ОтветитьThe new testament is a collection of myths from all cultures, the quran confirms this. Look at the scriptures like this, for Example, the torra (old testament) is the fellowship, the new testament is the two towers and the quran is the return of the king. Just like a trilogy, All three holy books are a complete set. Don't just stop at Christianity, read the quran to get the full story. Themselves you'll see the truth/lies of Christianity.
ОтветитьHaving faith is one thing, and it's fine of course. Claiming the resurrection is a "Historical event better attested than Caesar Crossing the Rubicon or the death of Augustus" is just such an unbelievably foolish statement to make.
The resurrection is a doctrine not a fact. It is one possible interpretation of the observed facts and a very confused one. It leads to the ridiculous assumption: that anyone can go to heaven in their earthly physical body. Incorrect.
ОтветитьThe very word ‘resurrection’ represents a way to interpret the facts. Why was Jesus body missing. How did Jesus appear in different locations to his followers even behind locked doors. There is a way to interpret these facts that admit Jesus’ spiritual powers. Then one can ignore the spiritual powers of Jesus and make the awkward assumption that Jesus was a revived corpse that, in spite of lashings to the point of death, crucifixion to death and then a spear thrust to his heart, re revived.
ОтветитьTLDR - You don’t.
ОтветитьWell, towards the end of the conversation, they hit upon a revelaton I've come to accept which is namely that it is only when a person lives out and experiences
first hand a life of sin, can God's identity be appreciated and understood, (you don't find God in obstaining from evil, so much as you are overcoming it)
"The universe speaks a language of awe that predates and surpasses all religions."* "God's presence is not confined to the labels we create. It transcends the boundaries of organized religion."
ОтветитьImagine the Bible is literally just made up. Do you think the authors knew that 2000 years later people would still be trying to see if it was fake or not? Best prank ever pulled…..
ОтветитьWhat an interesting Echo Chamber…
ОтветитьJesus talked about "resurrection" once. It seems like his words should be considered. Read the story of "The woman with 7 husbands." and after that, what Jesus said about what "resurrection" means.
ОтветитьThe Kingdom of Heaven was supposed to come before some of Jesus's contemporaries knew death. They all died. No Kingdom of Heaven to be seen.
We know it's false.
Wow, the conclusion of this video tracks with my recent revisiting of one of my favorite novels, Dracula. In that book it is very important to note that it is not enough for our protagonists to banish the vampire from their home in England but to chaise it down and confront it at its origin, where it lives. This is done at great cost to them but it is why the book works so well and continues to be timeless.
ОтветитьI wish I was an intellect. This is so far above my intellect that I have no idea who in this discussion believes and who doesn’t believe that the Bible is true.
ОтветитьFor the Resurrection you must first acknowledge that Jesus returning to life after death is possible. This is the reason that John gives the story of the death and resurrection of Lazarus first (John chapter 11). Jesus was dead "three days and three nights", Lazarus was dead four days. Once the followers of Jesus experienced and acknowledged Lazarus returning to life, then they are ready for the resurrection of Jesus which includes his resurrection to eternal life where Lazarus returned to mortal life.
