Ответить🌸 There are heavy winter drapes for windows to keep out cold and drafts
It opens up for light, just close it when it goes dark
There is also special thermal type window blinds that have silver thermal material behind it for exterior drafty doors and windows
I use one on my front door as it’s old door at cottage, but it’s very drafty each winter
Once I put the thermal hanging it’s gone 😅
Japan makes a bubble type material for glass and you can cut per each glass square and it stays in place till you remove it
No mess no painting and no fuss 😊🎉
🌼 Excellent!
ОтветитьWhat would you suggest for a steel door?
ОтветитьI put some Weatherstripping on my front door before the outdoor temps began to drop & the “Feel” near the door is much better, but closing the door so it Latches good & solid requires a bit more effort. Not bad for an old house.
ОтветитьAll though it can cost a bunch putting a wood stove insert in a fireplace can create a lot more heat and save a bunch of wood at the same time.
ОтветитьI have added this video to my calendar to review it next October! This was a great video
ОтветитьSolution for bottom of door may interfere with door mat so a recommendation is install thin board set in onto threshold against door when closed to prevent draft even if may need to step up an inch when entering or exiting thru doorway.
ОтветитьWe have one specific wall in our son's nursery that seems to lack any insulation between the outside siding and the inside drywall, and the wall feels very cold to the touch (all the other walls feel warm and insulated). Other than getting the wall filled with insulation (which we'll do come spring/summer), any other way we can insulate this wall temporarily this winter so the cold air doesn't seep in?
ОтветитьWhat about floor vents?
ОтветитьI like the blue walls and the white doors. It’s very pretty.❤
Just sayin’
one cheap trick i use for the door still leaks is a pool noodle, either whole, half, or quartered. acts as a second door sweep, only annoying part is having to move it every time the door opens
ОтветитьI have left my blinds down. You can use some box tape to make a patch. Cut a hole in the patch to run string and open/close rod. The tape keeps the plastic from splitting open and reenforces the wear and tear. ( Makes like a key hole) Hope this makes sense
ОтветитьCan you do this for hot rooms
ОтветитьCould sew a door stopper, even inside and out.
ОтветитьGreat Stuff regular is $16 Canadian, and Windows & Door is $20
For the same sized cans!
Crazy world in 2025.
When using the weatherseal for the window, your blind DO NOT have to be stationary. Take the blinds down and apply the weatherseal to the window, then replace the blind.
ОтветитьHow to fix hot rooms.
Some rooms in my house are hot during summer and some are freezing.
My 1972 house needed light switch and outlet extenders. That made a big difference reducing drafts.
ОтветитьYou forgot "put on a sweater ".
ОтветитьI put a pr themal curtains over my steel door...wow tremendous difference, I have downstairs exit, usually a wall of cold air as I go down.
ОтветитьThe plate covers and plastic on windows works great so much draft for my place what a difference now ...I made my own plate covers ..My electric runs from top down so holes were huge for air .I used putty and foam covers for electric boxes ...The putty is the stuff they use on rv windows I have 2 boxes use this instead of spray foam for holes the foam can not get to or me... and mice do not like it either ...
ОтветитьHey thats where I live Cincinnati! For the last 41 years :(
ОтветитьMan,,, I don't know if anyone has said anything about it but,,you look a lot like Brad Paisley...can you sing?????
ОтветитьBro why are you getting so autistic with the window plastic covering section? IT MUST BE PERFECT, jfc just put it up there its a 5 min job
ОтветитьI have an idea, you build a tiny "dorm" in the back of a pick up truck ?
ОтветитьI love your content and I have been a subscriber for long time. However, I am unsubscribing today because after the war trade started by your president on Feb. 1st, as I Canadian, I join forces with my compatriots to boycott all American products, including American content. I hope this non sense ends soon. Till there, I wish you all the best.
ОтветитьI think the top of the door is more likely to be warm because of heat rising and escaping while the cold air comes in from the lower half?
ОтветитьLove the suggestions ❤
ОтветитьNEVER! touch the extra overspray of the foam spray insulation until it has dried completely!.
The second you touch it while its wet you ruin any chance of a clean cleanup.
Especially if it landed on the carpet or curtain. Once dry it just flecks off the surface it landed on.
Can you recommend a reasonably priced thermal imaging camera for homeowner use?
ОтветитьI understand that it got dark so temperatures dropped but to me it doesn’t seem like the plastic window film did anything. It feels like using tape at the seams would be sufficient, less time consuming, and not as damaging.
ОтветитьHow do you fix rlly hot homes no air con
ОтветитьLast winter we raised the temp in our entry area 20 degrees (from 40 degrees to 64 degrees) by adding weatherstripping around the door and caulking the side windows. Also added draft stoppers on the floor. So much more comfortable now. We keep our house at 69, so 64 isn't too bad. Thanks for the great ideas.
ОтветитьYoooooooo Brad!! So many great tips!!! Hoping all is well Bud, Dirty Jersey out!!
ОтветитьPro tip: Carburetor cleaner will dissolve the spray foam. You can use it to clean out the straw too.
ОтветитьInteresting video.
I don't understand that draft from the electrical outlet. I guess since I'm from a place where the winters are long and hard we just build the houses different and have the electrical sandwiched between the insulation.
And the faucet outdoors, that cover would not work one bit. I turn of the water and open the faucet to keep it from freezing. Or rather breaking when freezing
You missed fixes for a sliding glass door. To back yard or balcony (in my case). Any thoughts?
ОтветитьOn your outlets you can drill a hole in box and shoot some of the door and window foam to fill behind the box
ОтветитьI left Florida and purchased a (1972-built) home in a small town near York, PA. There is a lot of work to be done to get this house up to snuff. My first project was to install a ventless natural gas fireplace. Good thing because my 20-year-old furnace stopped working. The entry doors will be replaced next. I've used the foam pads for the cover plates and the plastic shrink-wrap kit for the windows.
ОтветитьFYI just an engineer with a thermodynamic note here: it's not about cold getting in, it's about heat loss mitigation. Our concept of "cold" isn't anything other than the lack of heat.;)
Ответитьshoulda cualked switchs and outlets and then put on that insulation plate thing on
ОтветитьIf the wall is insulated around the box, as you said, there shouldn't be any cold air causing a draft. If you're going to keep the flu closed and the blanket covering the fire, you won't be able to use the fire. If you want to use the fire, the flu will need to be open and no blanket, so the real issues need to be fixed as far as the fireplace goes. There are other things you said that do not work in the real world, or places like Minnesota where we don't have 62-degree cold draughts in winter.
ОтветитьNeed to replace crappy door seal on all 3 sides, not just knob side! 45° miter or cut and overlap the upper corners. FLIR the top and hinge side door seal areas.
ОтветитьFor the areas where you need to apply tape, could you use a masking tape on the paint so you don't peal up paint later?
ОтветитьThere are attic insulation tents that also help a lot to separate the living air from the attic air. Super easy to install
