Ответитьgotta admit, the art on the character select screen felt like the quality of the likes of street fighter ex+a with its hand drawn art drawn on paper then scanned with a cheap scanner and imported to photoshop. whereas x4 character select art are digitally sprite drawn like in street fighter alpha 1 and 2, which i prefer.

ОтветитьI don't like the "echo" or reverb in the music on the ps1 Megaman games. The SNES doesn't have this at all.

ОтветитьAll it boils down to for me in all honesty, because the game itself is fine. The fact that keeping Zero throught the game boils down to RNG, it's not fun.

I had both of them for the PlayStation I grew up playing the older X Games on the Super Nintendo such as X1 and X2 X5 and 6 I probably just my favorites because those are the ones I owned and grew up playing it also beat and unlocked everything in both of them but it kind of hurts me to see everyone saying they sucked I grew up having tons of fun playing them especially X5 having the whole countdown and a bunch of content you can miss if you didn't do it in time I thought was very unique

ОтветитьNeeding to collect all armor pieces before being able to use them pretty much meant that you were never going to actually use them. By the time you get all armors the game is over so there's no reason to even collect them, especially when the Fourth is always there and the Ultimate can also be obtained in one go. Also, X just sucked because the weapons were so bad there was no reason to even use him while Zero even got combos with his saber upgrades
ОтветитьAs a child I spent months trying to get the falcon and gaia armors fully collected. They turned out to be pretty weak but I was so proud!
ОтветитьX5 was like stumbling drunk on sake to the bathroom at the staff party for the success of X4. I loved because I loved GnR growin up. No other reason really, nice sound and graphics.

Uhhh try again. Between the 8 mainline Mega Man games, the 5 GameBoy ones, Mega Man & Bass, X1 through 4, and Xtreme, that's 19 games before they learned how to crouch.
He said it had the best soundtrack then proceeded to include the weakest parts of some of the weakest songs in the game 😭 the boss theme is right there

ОтветитьAdding onto the presentation, I'm really not a fan of the pre-rendered look this game and X6 went for; X4 for the most part was hand-drawn meaning characters often looked right at home, but here they stick out BADLY at points, especially when they use stock images such as Dark Necrobat. X7 has a similar issue where the protagonists and cell-shaded while everything else is realistically rendered (well, for as much as X7's budget would allow), which X8 got rid of.

ОтветитьThe first time I played this game was when my roomate brought it out after unpacking his playstation. "Hey I know megaman!" I thought, and asked him if I could try it out. While exploring the menus after listening to the story I discovered I could launch the rocket and go to the final stage without playing any of the levels. Being a Zero player going into the final stage without any weapons or upgrades whatsoever I thought "huh it's really cool they allow you to do this, I wonder if they added some kind of upgrade you can get for zero doing this" at which point I came upon what to me looked like a suspicious looking pit in the final level. "Could it be" and I wall slide down into it just to check and my roomate is slacked jawed at what I have just been doing for the past 10 minutes. Proceeded to beat the game and all he could say was "How did you do that??" and I just thought huh, "What an interesting game design! They really thought about intuitiveness, huh?" lol

ОтветитьThere’s actually one single advantage to going outside weakness order. If you get squids weapon with zero before doing whales stage then you can use it to get the heart tank without the gaia armor skipping a stage revisit
ОтветитьInteresting presentation. Despite your complaints on your review, you actually did the game justice in your review. I'm coming from the angle of absolutely enjoying the heck out of X5. Hands down one of my personal faves of the series and in similar style to your own of being rocked by it on my first play through.
You ignored written mechanics guides about the game the game as well. The part you ignored and literally made up a nonsense reason about was the Weapons+ section of the end stages when they start showing up. You claim it was a "Time" related function with the Story, and that is partially incorrect. The Time thing only applies to the Story of collecting and using the Cannon and how that affects the space station crashing. As it pertains to the Enhancement Parts you can open them up BEFORE 5 hours burned if you route it correctly.
The extra Enhancement Parts aka Bonus Perks for X like auto-charge,- auto-shoot, jump boost. that can be applied to Zero and X determined by the Form X uses. Base X gets 4 slots and so does Zero. If you use an Armor on X then you get 2 Slots. Base X can dang near be stronger than Ultimate X if you get really good Enhancement parts and Zero becomes more insane than he already is.
There's a total of 2!!! per boss that you cannot collect all of them. THe mechanic opens up is the "CHARACTER LEVEL" of the Boss. If you paid attention to the boss fights you would notice they have something similar to like an RPG level mechanic going on. Its not anything similar to an RPG an RPG mechanic at all but it is the MAIN mechanic that determines when a Boss drops an Enhancement part. So the ROUTING of the game is ultimately important for gettin the X Enhancement parts you want the most! And it sucks because you have 16 to choose froim but can only get about 5 on any good run specifically by choosing the Routing you need to get the pieces you want.
The way the leveling of the bosses work is that they all start at a base level of 1or2or3. each time you beat a boss they all level up based ont the boss killed. This also includes Dynamo contributing to the boss level ups. Once again the Boss level up are the sole factor for determining when the Enhancement start dropping. So once they reach above Level 12 iirc then they start dropping the Enhancement Parts.
This mechanic by itself drove my personal Routing choice because of wanting the awesome enhancement parts moreso than any previous Mega Man X game. Im not sure if X5 invented the enhancement part mechanics of the serious but holy heck it so fun. And theres a Hard Mode difficulty in the Options just like of the other X games too. Unfortunately that Hard Mode does NOT affect the Boss level up system at all.
X5 final boss in a nutshell: Oh no, you're a WALL now!
Also, I kind hope someone makes a sprite art mod for this game
X5 was the beginning of the end for sure, but still what should have a been a nice solid conclusion.
Ответитьeven as a young as 9 or 10, X5 felt like a flash game compared to X4. I even like X6, as ridiculous and stupid as it can be, there is a lot more to the gameplay.
ОтветитьThe weird picture boss made me mad too it was such a gimmick fight the spikes can 1 hit you randomly over & over again it was bs but, I did enjoy replaying for the nostalgia. I probably wont play it again for awhile though because, the earlier games are just better like you said

Ответитьplayed through X5 when I was a kid and JUST played through it again today to see if it still held up. Still an absolutely amazing game. Tight controls, cool bosses, amazing music, really fun collectable secrets and a decent story.
Should also be noted that X5 is the first and only 2D Megaman X game I ever played for any real length of time, so I obviously see things differently than someone who was following the series from X1 onward.
I tried to get into 1, 2, 3 and 4 but they just never hooked me the way X5 did. X4 might have done it for me if it weren't for the horrific voice acting completely ruining the story for me.

ОтветитьI Stopped playing MMX with the fourth game (which is my favorite). From there, both gameplay and story declined in quality imo. The death of Zero is overused (it was ok between X and X2), but then it happens again in one of the later games, which seems lazy.

X5 and X7 are terrible. X8 was actually good, and X6 is actually one of my favorites for some reason. X5 had way too many interruptions of Alia talking to you repeatedly throughout stages, stopping your forward motion constantly. X5 also had some weird stages and way too many mini bosses. X7 is obviously the worst of the series, because of how badly they designed it, and took away the fluidity of the characters movements. X8 was really good because it was Maverick Hunter X style 3D, so it's from a 2D perspective, and Zero was super cool in X8.
