That is not a very good idea, a hand towel, or a old drum head that is place up side down on the snare drum is better

Muting a snare drum doesn't lower it's tone. It just dampens the overtone of it.

I love the sound! Could you do a version with a Tom? I’m curious is it gets rid of the overtone ring and adds some snap. I don’t really like the sound of the specific fundamental ring and the overtones of regular toms

the snare was not hit dynamically

but i say from experience it is very cool, the low end of the snare is really fat (it is not recognizable on the video because of the quality)

i recommend 2 layer of paper, then tape it, because it will eventually wear out.!
