i got 3 rats 2 months ago fron a pet store, 2 out of 3 of them have completely warmed up to me while the 3rd named cringe, still acts very cringe to this day.
little over week ago i got 2 more from the same store and ive used my knowledge i learned with the first 3 and was able to bond with one of the 2 new ones very quickly

i then got 2 more from the same store (baby rats this time) and thats why im here to learn if theres anything different i need to do

I think nail trimming is only necessary for males because of their weight and strength.

We bought our first pet rat pup from a pet store. Was found in the mice pup tank,speculation was that the new assistant misplaced him. Anyway brought him home and bribed him with raw pumpkin, cauliflower and chicken (cooked) the first day. We've had him for a week noe and he spends everyday snuggled up in the hood of my hoody while work or chilling on my ot my bfs shoulder and then when we watching something or gaming after eating hell snuggle up with bf before it's bedtime.

Reason his uno is because of the tank he was found in, we were not certain for how long he was in the tank for and was advised by the assistant not to get another one.😅

My mum finally agreed to let me to get my dream pet rats I have done loads of research and we have bought 3 boys from a breeder we are picking then up in 3 weeks and I can't wait thanks this really helped

What lovely boys! I'm interested in your use of malt paste. I used it for a while but then got a bit worried about what might be in it, so now use organic veg-based baby food. which they also adore and which has fewer additives and strange chemicals in it.

I have a few quick questions, 1. how do you feed them separately? 2. do you still bond with them for an hour on the first week? 3. What breeders do you recommend? 4. what scissors do you use to cut their nails? 5. For pea fishing, do you cook the peas/corn? 6. when feeding, do you put it in a small bowl, or toss it for them to find?

I’m really struggling with my 3 had them a month and they just don’t seem to want to bond what am I doing wrong feeding and always stand at the cage and talk with them try to play I’m struggling when they escape I can’t catch the to safely put back in they run or react I dunno what to do

My daughter wanted a pet rat for her 13th birthday last year, i grew up with pet rats loved them as a kid. So needless to say her pet rat is a little over a year old now, ive got one also thats about 4 months now i feel they are the best pets to have

This was enormously helpful..I just have to tell you just how amazing it was to watch their transformation as you worked with them..to see how they responded to your calm loving energy and to see their emerging individual personalities being expressed as they gained confidence and trust with you.

I have two new baby girls and they are so shy/scared and they won’t leave their hideouts. Even when being bribed with food. Any recommendations?

I got my rats from the pet store, they had been surrendered in a very large very accidental litter, and I fell in love with my boys the moment I saw them. It’s been about a year and a half since then, and while I’ve done every trick in the book to try and bond with them they’re more content by themselves. I’ve respected their preference, but I couldn’t help but feel like I’ve just not done enough or haven’t been good enough for them to love me. It’s quite reassuring to hear that some rats never come around to being handled, as I’m incredibly happy just taking care of them and watching them interact with each other if that’s just what they prefer. I’ve known many a feeder rat who were adopted and kept in small cages and still loved their owners, but I’m more proud to create a safe environment for my little group of rats to stay and thrive in than I am trying to force them to be more cuddly. I will most definitely be getting my rats from reputable breeders in the future, however. Anyways, the introduction of this video was just oddly reassuring.

it has taken one of my four pet store bought rats about eight months to fully trust me, the rest boned very quickly. Im so proud of her and how far shes come, she is so brave.

Hey, I’m a new rat owner and I’ve had no past experience. My rats name is loko and he’s still quite young. There was no available breeders around me so I had to get him from a pet store. He does have a brother but he’s currently not able to be adopted as he’s in the vet, loko is very aggressive and he bites me even when I approach him gently, does anyone have any tips on how I can help him not to bite? Much appreciated!

when i first got pet mice (ik its not rat but they are similiar) i was almost 9 yrs old and had no idea abt having to wait for the bonding process, on the first day of having them i immedietly kept trying to grab them which obviously did not work, long story short they both escaped and i got nipped by one so yea. now i have 2 beautiful healthy bonded pet mice with a different bonding story. also in case yall are wondering those mice did eventually bond with me properly!

I have a Naked Rat Mother who recently gave birth ... but she bit me once very hard on my little finger.
I'm a bit afraid to let her mouth on my hands again because she bites on everything that she can get a hold of. And when i try go near her cage she jumps on the grit waiting for my hands to come.
The Rat that i brought is a Feeder Rat which is meant for feeding snakes and other reptiles... how can i Train a full grown mother ?

I've always wanted pet rats, but I've always had cats, strike one, and until recently I lived with my family and my mother is PETRIFIED, so that was strike 2. Strike 3 was more in my heart and soul. I learned that the average lifespan is like 3 years, I just couldn't deal with that kind of heartbreak every three years T_T But they're SO CUTE
