There is one possibility.. that Trumpists allow the Christian right to take over and back the UK far right as the US is the only viable trading partner now the EU will not allow us to rejoin.

I’m going to say yes, unfortunately it is (in time).

The majority of the voting populace are dim. That’s a scientific fact, it’s the bell curve.

They don’t take their opinion from The Sun or The Mirror or The Mail anymore. They take it from social media.

That is why and how populism exists.

Productivity is at an all-time low, dropping further and inequality is amplifying.

First, in the UK, we’ll go through the Labour (aka “not-Tory”) effort.

They may get it right and stay firmly central, in which case we stand a little chance of getting off our knees.

They may get it wrong and try to grab from the wealthy and well-off to spend spend spend, in which case we’ll fail miserably by killing business and entrepreneurial spirit even more.

Unfortunately the odds of this are quite high, despite their low vote share they will tend to focus on the size of their seat majority.

Because socialism will fail hard in the UK, the more socialist the efforts the harder the swing right will be.

Starmer needs to dance carefully if we are to avoid a hard right upsurge.

Unfortunately this fear by lefties sticks a further nail in the coffin of actual democracy, ie proportional representation.

Farage is certainly the BBC candidate, he's constantly on question time and various other politics shows, I'm surprised he hasn't been put on to host Have I Got News for You, like they did when they were pushing Johnson.
When are we going to get a proper regulator to rein these people in and hire some proper BBC editors and journalists?

A huge lesson from Wallonia (the southern part of Belgium), there on the media there is almost no reporting about the ultra right. Only factial news, but no spewing of lies. And what do you see: ultra right is almost non existing in that part of the country.

Poland has been there done that and moved on. Hungary is getting fed up of Orban. Meloni had to tone it down once faced with the actual job of running a country. Other countries are behind the curve, next German GE could be interesting and Le Pen will be itching for another crack at the French presidentials. For the far right it's always easy to snipe from the sidelines, that's Farage's speciality, keeping himself in the news and the money ( getting the odd seat in parliament whether Strasboug or Westminster along with the pensions that follow is the cherry on the cake for him). The biased press problem is arguably worse here than some european countries but hardly unique.

Fascism, populism, authoritarianism does not come from the voters. The BNP made virtually no inroads to being normalised on this country because they were working class.

It’s only when the wealthy “go bad” that the four strands of power decide to back such movements

Religion
Media
Politics
Business

Thankfully in this country religion NEVER will but the other three are a concern.

I’m so glad Matt is satirising this. So much coverage about how many seats Reform got, but it was a third the number they were projected to win. Lib Dems, on the other hand, absolutely cleaned up. The Greens got more seats than ever, but not a word about that.

I get that Reform got a lot of votes, but you do actually have to win your little bit of the country. And I’d wager a lot of right wing voters just went that way because a Labour victory had been predicted for years. They may well drift back to the conservatives in the next election.

Nice one Matt, but you kinda missed the point of what happened in the French elections. Because although the left and centrists worked together to block the Front National (changing the name doesn't change anything, just ask Windscale, or Twitter), they still managed to get more votes than any other party.

Come to sunny France, where 2 people out of every 5 voted for a party formed by a multi-convicted racist and anti-semitic holocaust denier...

I'd have thought Farage will be delighted to only have 4 seats, so he can keep playing the 'victim of the woke establishment card'. The last thing he wants is to have actual power, as then people will find out just how worthless his promises and easy solutions are. Also with only 4 MPs there will probably be a couple of weeks every year when none of them are outed making racist or antisemitic tweets. With 13 of them there'd be no time for any other news.
