Learn A Banana Prank - Mr. Wizard's Everyday Magic

I’m surprised Mr. wizard didn’t know to open a banana from the bottom. Any monkey knows that’s the easiest way.

When Gen X parents talk about the their favorite baby sitter when the got home from school. That is Mr. Wizard.

You can do this with just the needle and one hole per slice, moving it back and forth to make the cut.

I learned this trick from Shari Lewis's TV special "You Can Do It." The method she used was without thread. You need a long needle, and you stick the needle into the skin, until it touches the inside of the skin on the other side. Then you sweep the needle back and forth, cutting the banana with the needle itself. Then repeat for the other slices. You can't do a lengthwise slice that way, though. 🍌

I think anyone who remembers Mr. Wizard is automatically vaulted out of the "millennial" label. We're Generation W, and our symbol is the LIGHTNING BOLT.

I remember getting to watch Mr. Wizard as a kid and dreamed of being able to have the resources to emulate the experiments and demonstrations that he did. And now it makes me sad, thinking that I was too poor to have bananas or sewing needles.

My dad showed this to me, and so when I was probably 11 I did this to a bunch of bananas before school to prank my mates at lunch. That was 4 hours later, so the holes were all black, and they got squished in my lunch box, so there was banana gunk oozing out of the little holes. No one wanted to eat them. It was sad.

I remember this from when I was a kid! Mr. Wizard was the best! I am so excited to share this and more with my kids!

That is a clever prank but an amazing trick.

I was hoping for the the banana in a tailpipe trick, made famous by one Axel Foley.

I have no idea how this is done. Mr. Wizard would scream at me! I STILL don't understand.

This was one of my favorite shows as a kid after school or at the butt-crack-of-dawn when Nick-at-Night turned back to regular Nickelodeon. Good memories from randomly coming upon this clip.
