You really should warn people that Quaking Aspen spread rapidly. They are gorgeous trees in the wild landscape, a real problem in yards, you have to keep cutting down suckers that will pop up feet or yards away from the original tree. They are one of my favorite trees, but they are a lot.

Hi, fast growing shade, but not so tall and non invasive roots. For near house 1/2 backyard, w concrete slab.

I have considered planting an October Glory Red Maple or Autumn Blaze Maple for my backyard, as I have an open spot right at 35 feet by 34 feet surrounded on 3 sides by a patio, driveway and garage.

My fear would be two things: 1) that the tree would get so huge that it would overwhelm the space and 2) that surface roots would become a problem and keep grass from growing anywhere near it or possibly disturb the driveway or patio, which would be around 15 feet away.

NEVER plant a Quaking Aspen tree! Unless you're at the right altitude over 6000 feet. If it doesn't get cold enough in your zone, they're susceptible to disease. I live just under 6,000 feet and borers have decimated all my trees. They spread like bamboo and I have younglings growing all over my property. They don't even finish growing when they're already on the decline.
