Artist Targeted NFT SCAM on Social Media

First time viewer. Just wanna say, your rants intro made me laugh! Also yes, I get these emails regularly on my email that's linked to my Artstation page. I can tell they're a scam, but always wondered what the angle was. Thanks for explaining.

It is a perfect description of my situation now. Good thing i did some legit check.

I m from india when ever I upload my art there is someone offering me $2000 for each art I was very happy but when it came for gas fees n my friend told me about it its a scam all my wishes came to end bcz I m not working due to my mental health I only buy cheap water colour and paint in drawing book I wish if I had money from nft I would buy canvas n tools brushes for my art work 😢

I recently listed several personal collected art pieces on ebay for sale. OMG, the messages started immediately!! Offers to buy my collection as NFTs! I don't know much about them, but I know enough to know it's a scam! What real art lover would rather have an nft over the real artwork???

A scammer brought me here she started a conv with "your art is really amazing" she told me my artwork will be sold in just 2-5 days with minimum $10k value. I literally said to her that's too good to be true. Btw i have to pay her $300 gas fee per art and my brother said to me it's a pure b*llsh*t just ignore her.

There are several scams against artists going on right now. Watch out if you just joined Etsy and receive a huge order. Watch out if someone not following you suddenly wants you to create specific artwork. Don’t take checks for anything over $100 if at all. These scams are also in the craft world.

I get these sorts of messages on Instagram, deviant art, art station, Facebook, and even tiktok. Instantly block them.

just sent your video link to this guy telling me to mint my art work on artminted - the cost is incredible K3000+ usd... which is almost K12 thousand in my currency...

I posted my artwork on fb...and this guy comes inboxing me out of the blue. Dard red flag

For me i got contacted by someone saying they are offering me 4K dollars for my artwork, they mentioned nothing about gas fees or paying for anything, but they did tell me to mint my art and turn it into nft in a market place called Onlymint, or something like that.... should i just block them lol

Just had this happen to me.. I work a manual labor job in the heat.. barely make enough money to break even.. mainly working to pay for my medication and that takes my whole paycheck.. heart problems so I shouldn’t be working like that to begin with.. and they tried to scam me… that’s sad man

Thanks, I’m an artist (Singersongwriter and also a painter) . It’s seems like the more popular I get the more scammers approach me with offers. Usually my RED FLAG they offer is a check. I’ve had more than one NFT offer, which do sound great, especially for a struggling artist. My first NFT encounter ,I was given a platform to sign up on to create an account. But when I tried,my computer alerted me that it was a bad website.. I’m an older guy so this NFT language is all new to me but your explanation helped me understand a basic principal “ if it sounds too good to be true then it isn’t” It’s just a shame that these scammers, these liars, prey on artist and unfortunately, our egos as well.

And I'm already getting NFTs orders 8 - 10 art pieces for 6 ETH each........

Someone asked if they could buy my art for NFT, for 5.6 ETH, all I had to do is sign up at artpixel and upload my photos,... The art is not even that good, what do I do?

hi. i just got an offer on instagram from someone who is blockchain engineer or something that wants to post my art as nfts on the blockchain and market my art for me and they say my work are masterpieces and she could sell them for a ton of etherium...? she is a women and there are pics of her on her profile she seems legit I don't know?

I was approached a few months ago by a guy named Ricky Martin who tried laying this crap on me. He was offering me roughly 70 thousand dollars (in Ethereum crypto) for 5 pieces of my digital hot rod art. Now like most artists I would like to believe that my art could provide such monetary returns, and that is part of the design of these scams, to tap our egos or our dreams of being successful and use it against us. However, as Rafi pointed out, it was just way too obvious that this was likely a scam. I knew absolutely nothing about NFT's but this guy was very clear about what site he wanted me to join and post my art to. Then after briefly checking out the process for creating NFT's and the crazy upfront fees involved amounting to hundreds of dollars for each piece of art, I told the guy to just convert some of his crypto and pay me in cash. I would even sell it to him for half of what he had offered. I never heard back from him.

Just happened to me. Made an ArtStation account and uploaded an image and 20 minutes later got someone saying they’ll pay me almost 10K for my picture. First “search” I made about it and I got here so thanks

I just have scamed above $1600
They pretend to service center and customer but both two is same person, they keep lying, for gas fee or license.

I hope all artists notice this. They will upgrade it

I had more then 20 nft during these 2 month.....they say same sentence as your art so unique and beautiful, but i saw the other arist they are there too...same thing ....so they do it to every artist....not only me....then they will ask you go theirs own website for safety.....the websites can not even search on Google, and one piece art pay me 8ETh , but pay fas fee first , 0.13eth. Is value real money a out 430$....the other website you can display your art first then pay gas fee $300, buy 6pcs art total pay me 15000$ as nft....yes...too good to be ture ....i ask ton of questions whole day...i make them tired..😂...if any body try to sell as nft...should go the website like opensea and so on big company....not private website...also if i ask too much ..they tell me go talk with support of the website...and the support just tell me go put gas fee...so all i feel is they just want that gas fee....

Please explain how someone on Facebook is going to make money off of me if I pay gas fees through MetaMask (to mint an NFT) and not to the person contacting me.

Genuine question - if prospective customers genuinely want to reach out to artists about their work on social media prior to the purchase, how should one field those genuine customers? Any green flags to look out for?
