Logic Pro 10.4.5 - Why This Update Rules (And the Top Features I'm Stoked For)

Thank you for the continuing and amazing Logic Pro videos brother... I wonder if you or any of the viewers to this channel can offer information and advice, as a long time Logic user from Logic 7 and a producer with major label releases I am in need of some expertise please.

I have for the past few years been successfully running Logic Pro X on a 2008 Mac Pro 2.4Ghz dual quad 8 core machine with 16 GB Ram using two external hard drives, not SSDrives.

More recently when adding orchestral arrangements and synth parts alongside Superior Drummer and in tandem with audio recorded guitar, bass and vocal tracks my machine really struggles.

After much research I have decided that because I use UA Pcie accelerator cards and a MOTU 24/io with pcie card the only affordable and easily implemented upgrade would be to acquire the last and most revered 2012 Mac Pro, a 12 core machine fitted with SSD's and plenty of RAM.

Here is my question : What is the ideal amount of processing power and most efficient *circa 2012 Mac Pro system that is required to run Logic Pro in tandem with software drums and Kontakt instruments?

Solid State Drives being an obvious improvement in any system, I wonder, is it worth my while finding a hot-rodded 2012 Mac Pro with 12 cores and, say 48 gig RAM or am I wasting my time trying to improve on an already stable system that will see little improvements by spending money that I don't really have?

I almost certainly want to stick to the tower/pcie format as opposed to buying even more ancillary gear as required by using an overpriced iMac pro or new cylindrical Mac Pro.

The best thing with Logic compared to Protools is that it does not crash! It works, hour after hour!💥🙏🏻❤️

I can't understand the all excitement or what you've been doing wrong in the past? I'm running 10.2.4 and once a track is frozen, the plugins on that track are disabled and are only re-enabled when you turn off freeze. Also, if I open the mixer window, it opens with the track selected that I'm on in the arrange window. So that's not new either. The other features are interesting though.

What is it's Market Share compared to Pro Tools? :)

With the new iPad os 13 with support for a mouse and external hard drives, do you think Apple will allow their developers to make Logic Pro for iPad? I really hope so. The 2018 iPad pros are certainly powerful enough.

Cubase blows logic away. I have both and Cubase kicks ass. Also they took the demo down because they were called out and it was a fraud also they were demoing on the 28 core machine and not your 4 core or 8 core at the most.

I really wish they would address the idiosyncrasies of the drummer plugin. When you move a session on the grid it completely screws up the rhythm. There is no other solution but to convert to MIDI, effectively destroying the ability to add any additional dynamic changes. I’m surprised there hasn’t been more pushback from the Logic community 🙁

Autoscroll in the mixer has been existing in previous versions. The new thing is that you can actually switch it off not thst you can switch it *on*. And the good thing about this is that you can now have different mixers opened simultaneously (or on different screensets), some of them being "static", if you wish.

Logic 9 is the best from a producer standpoint

And finally they fixed most of their ARA bugs! Now we can use Melodyne ARA in Logic without losing any data and without any Logic crashes. Only took them one and a half year to fix this. ;)

I'm getting 2 big issues with Logic Pro X 10.4.5 here. 1- When I try to import a project to a new one by clicking on "import", the browser window becomes blank and it doesn't show any files. 2- After I recovered an SSD from completely removing a partition, all the projects open empty, I mean without any audio files and Logic doesn't ask to look for them. Can anyone help me please?

man... how does your Logic run so smoothly with such big sessions? On my end Logic becomes super laggy when I get a session just barely over 30-40 tracks, and by laggy I mean a 1s delay between click on a clip and having it highlight in white, it's a productivity nightmare. I know it's not my iMac because I'm running 4.2 GHz Intel Core i7 CPU with 24GB of RAM. Do you have any tips on optimising Logic's performance?

Thanks for the vid! If you simply double click on any send in the mixer it will jump immediately to that aux. No need to shift click. This has been in Logic for years. Just FYI.

Doesn't look like a big deal to me, some nice stuff definitely. But the price of a new Mac Pro?....... I'm gonna wait and see.. I think hardware wise, they are pricing themselves out of a huge market. There are perhaps some thousands that can use this machine. But probably millions who don't, if all they are doing is audio.
I hope after new Mac Pro comes out, they rethink it, and build a machine that will fulfill the need of countless musicians, audio production houses, project studios.

In fact it could have brought some new stuff and features and fixes but it has broken some others. I would rather say that the 10.4.6 is the update that rules. At least for me it has fixed my MIDI gear, in particular my Korg Triton Taktile that's working properly again. Thank you Apple.

Please note that freeze literally renders the track like a .BIP which will be taking space in your project folder... Hopefully your projects are saved as folders and when you open it up you'll see a freeze tracks folder with all the files in .bip format... This is logics way of saying that it can play all tracks.

Literally this almost works as a mastering project (IMO) just that it isn't L&R where you've rendered all the tracks based on how you like it to sound to make small adjustments.

Do take not when you're doing a lot of projects that this will take up a huge load of files, sending your project can more or less 1G to 10G worth JUST BECAUSE of the freeze files... So what you can do when sending your project over anywhere else to mix is to remove freeze on logic, delete all freeze files and send it. This will save a lot of space...

Similarly, if you are done with the project and submitted it to your client, delete all freeze tracks so you can move on to another project without needing to worry about space constraints.

We need a chord track ASAP, I’m having to use Studio One’s Version..

Double click on a send or output directly jumps to that aux/out already in 10.3. I think that was already the case in earlier version. That's not new in 10.4.
Also that the mixer follows the arrangement track selection.... ooooold feature ;)

where is the chord track?, horrible faders, the best ui was in 8. 9. why the plug ins are so big?
