This was written and acted like each character knew they were in a movie. Was a ROUGH watch

I just wanted some throwbacks, some awesome stunts and cinematography, some emotion and a fun adventure. I got all those things so I was very happy with it in IMAX.

Fun fact: Jim Phelps, Jr’s alias “Dan Briggs” was the name of the IMF team lead in the Mission: Inpissible TV show’s first season, before being replaced by Jim Phelps in the preceding seasons.

I just got done seeing the movie. It was all right. I did laugh out loud when the bad guy dies falling out of the airplane and then again when Tom Cruise’s parachute catches on fire. But I definitely also had some problems with the movie, including that dumb man boy in the submarine that saves Tom from a stabbing that whole character was really annoying and forced it down my throat also would submarines really be following that closely to each other? I mean, come on a slight brake check would’ve caused a rear end collision and potentially started World War III. also, was it established in earlier movies that Luther had cancer? Or was that something that they added to justify killing him off in terms of like well he’s gonna die anyway he has cancer because I mean just getting locked in a room with a bomb would’ve been enough to do the job

Love Mr Cruise’s commitment to his stunts. However two small things that always bothered me - HALO jump in Fallout and the submarine scene in DReckoning: why does his helmet facemask in both have “face” lights (I know the reason from a movie-making aspect) but IRL, it would totally decrease his vision in dark environments 😂

The dead reckoning was better. The final reckoning focused too much on nostalgia. Btw wtf is the rabbit foot? I'm still confused 😕 like now it's the secret sauce for the entity?

The franchise ended at Fallout.

These Reckoning films are pretty rubbish. Between killing off characters in odd ways, introducing nobodies as if they're major players, a weak villain & honestly underwhelming stunts (bar the airplane sequence) - these films kinda suck.

If you were like me and my brothers, and you watched Dead Reckoning before watching this, then the recapping at the start kind of felt patronizing. It was a lot of exposition throughout whereas Dead Reckoning and pretty much all others have been NON STOP from the get-go. They always have the political stuff and the explanations and the science and computer jargon that justifies the fantastical stuff... but as they're trying to wrap everything up they spend way too much time away from action. As a finale it works, but as a stand alone movie it suffers from its own dialogue.

First off, I am a big Tom Cruise fan and love the MI franchise.

But I was so disappointed with this. It was Way too long, the diving & plane scenes (yes, extremely impressive by Tom) but they went on forever, it lacked the humour & warmth of previous ones.

I feel he threw everything but the kitchen sink at this because it was the last one. I understand that but it just did not feel like an MI film.

My own personal opinion was that it should have ended at Fallout.

Footnote - long may Tom continue to make movies and I have a huge girl crush on Hayley Attwell

Honestly it was already a reboot of a 60s/70s TV series which was already rebooted in the 90s before becoming this film franchise. I could see this basically rebooting again like Bond and continue making films with recasted younger actors every decade or 2.

The movie was so self-serious. It's like the entire cast and crew are simply there to fluff Cruise's ego. He's built a character and personal persona of someone who is selfless and humble, but uses his power to have others praise him and tell him/the audience how great and important he is.

There seems to be groupthink amongst trusted reviewers that its a terrible movie. The first hour is a clunky and confusing expositional mess - but once we're on the sub it's off to the races and a pretty darn good film. That sub scene alone was worth the ticket price and one of the BEST 25 minutes I've had in a cinema seat.

Don't read this comment if you don't like spoilers.

1. It's the "final" reckoning. Why did he not die?! It was a shock when they did it to Bond but this film was literally set up for him to die a hero's death and they did some hammy voice over instead. Fucking shite
2. What was the point of that French chick? She was stabbed and already told Hunt the name of the sub. There was literally fuck all reason for her to be there. And her lines were awful, with "who will live and who will die" being the worst offender
3. Why is Luther even sick? Where did that come from?
4. Luther's death was boring. You can tell the director thought it would be emotional. It was not.
5. Why and how did Gabriel go from working for the entity to now being against it?
6. Bringing Dunlow back was good but he should have had Luther's death defusing the bomb. No way he could run that distance in that time
7. No explanation of whoever Gabriel killed and why it was so important
8. If so important, that last fight should have been a gritty hand to hand fight
9. Dunlow gives Hunt the knife from MI1 which was cool but that knife is then never used. Classic failure of Checkov's gun. They should have used that knife to kill Gabriel in said hand to hand battle that never happened
10. Made a big deal of the Russians subs but then totally forgot about it. The sub scene would have been better with some Russian antagonists
11. Solomon Lane should have been in it. He never died. Entity should have got him free somehow
12. What about the Brits? Ilsa was killed and her handler, Atlee i think it was, does nothing?
13. They should have had IMF/CIA v Gabriel v MI6 v Lane v Hunt v the Russians in a huge game of cat and mouse. THAT would have been amazing

I'm sure there's more but yeah, what a hot mess

It makes sense that Donloe could still have the knife because Kittridge didn't take anything into evidence. He tried to cover it up and keep it between him and one other person and amen asked about Donloe he said he wanted him in a communication station in Alaska by the end of the day and to just mail him his clothes.

They just have to take a break, and come up with a great bad guy. That’s what this movie was missing, it had too much of everything. But not enough of an actual threat. Imagine if Henry Cavil was the bad guy for these 2 movies with much more personal stakes.

I just recently rewatched the entire series and saw something in 7 that I cannot believe it took them 7 movies to show. At one point Shea Whigham grabs someone by the face when he first encounters them. I'd do that to every person I talked to if I were in the IMF.
