I Flew the STRANGEST Startup Airline...

New Pacific Airlines, formerly known as Northern Pacific Airways, is one of the more interesting American airline startups in recent years. Their initial business model was based around using Anchorage, Alaska as a hub for Trans-Pacific flights and operating a fleet of Boeing 757s.

Following the closure of Russian airspace, they instead launched a few domestic flights out of Ontario International Airport (ONT) in Southern California.

In March this year, I took one of those flights to try them out, and also fly on a 757-200!

If they just flew to bigger destinations that actually have a market big enough to support 757s, they might have made enough money to actually get their ETOPS rating and actually start their Anchorage hub.

Damn, that's one hell of a beautiful livery.. That climb out of KONT and the thrust reduction of the buzzsawing RB211's is a beautiful song

You had to appreciate flying in a 757 for the first time in the 80's going from the anemic take off and climb out of the 727's and DC's to the rocket of the 757, what a hoot.

I had to chuckle when you said that you were told that it would “get bumpy” descending into RNO. When DOESN’T it get bumpy going into RNO? Or out of RNO for that matter? My two 757 flights were MSP-MKE and DEN-ABQ. Amazing aircraft.

What a cool airline! I'd fly with them any chance I could get! Hoping they succeed in this extremely difficult segment of airline flights ✈️ 🙏 ❤😊

I've always been a huge fan of the 757 it's a total pocket rocket 🚀 of passenger jets! Love the 757's angle of attack on the climb outs

I think they're on to something with copy/pasting Icelandair to Alaska (Alaskalandair?). If New Pacific Airlines doesn't capitalize, probably someone else will.

Unpopular opinion maybe, but Boeing did not make a mistake stopping production of these and made the right call to go all in with 737 NG family and have the 737-900ER fulfill at least some of the 757 market. I’m not sure anyone could have foresaw how the middle-of-market, direct flights to small cities market, would have played out in the 15-20 years since 757 production stopped. Even if it could be fitted with modern engines, it would stand little chance against the A321neo family because the 75 is just so much heavier. Regardless, still such a cool airplane and I really would like to fly on one soon and experience that takeoff 😊 Great video Alex!

I think my two favourite times when flying is going down the jetway, firstly because I'm finally boarding the airplane, and secondly, I've arrived at my destination. I spend way too much time on long layovers, as my normal flight usually involves three destinations.

I feel sorry for everyone who was involved with North Pacific and New Pacific....except the owners and management. NP only operated the scheduled service in order to satisfy investor requirements and as soon as it was demonstrated that the scheduled service was a huge money looser they stopped. The parent company, RAVN Alaska has already been almost bankrupt for years due to crap management and borderline money laundering. RAVN was itself born from several sales and mergers of smaller, formerly very important Alaska regional carriers, most notably Frontier Flying Service of Fairbanks. Us Alaskans were shocked when North Pacific was announced and seemingly had acquired 757s...at the same time their Alaska operations with the remaining regionals and RAVN were in shambles. How on earth could RAVN, a small company with a handful of Beach 1900s and at the time (?) one or two ancient DHC-8s be able to pull off a new airline. Hint, they couldn't. Since then everything that NP has done has been pretty much a joke, why anyone went to work for them is absolutely a mystery. I think that this whole operation is a scam to this day.

Have flown the 757-200 several times from Las Palmas to Tromsø.(LPA-TOS). It was Spanair who operated them. On the way down they always had a stopover in Madrid to change crew. Spanair is no more and today all this traffic is taken over by the a321.
