I mean... Look at the NY Knicks in the NBA. It's been one of the worst teams in the league for a while now but it is still one of the biggest NBA franchises. They have the entire OWL spectator crowd looking at them and have an audience that wants players they can see themselves in. They want their city's love and adoration so they can sell their brands, products and services.

And you know what? They're probably going to get a lot more than that just because they're the first ones to openly pursue that course. OWL already won the enthusiasts... Now they need to build on that core and grow it's viewer base.

XL2 must have players lined up they have faith in that they not ready to announce, with all the money and people invested into NYXL and the contenders team they not dumb and gonna throw money and their brand down the drain, it also could be an attempt to save money random locals def cost less then someone like mangachu and is NYXL is as good as they were season 1 im sure they would want their focus to be on the OWL team

I mean, this speaks a lot of the lack of work safety pro players have. Any team can kick you out for whatever reason and you have no right to complain and no support network. There are no rules for the companies who own the teams and players are at their mercy. They aren't even actual employees.

Next season In contenders you have to have 3 LOCAL players on your team. So I don’t think you should have kicked these players but they have to sign players from their region

Totally support XL2 because at the end its their team. its the end of the season, they have to accept there is a risk of losing your spot. You say "secured jobs" but its like any sort of contract based role - you accept the risk or find another job.

Tier 2 scene should be promoting local talent with the OWL taking the cream of the crop. Honestly comes across like a bunch of pre-teens feeling like they should be entitled to their places. immature.

I personally think they’re turning their contenders team in a PR stunt to make them seem like they care so much about New Yorkers becoming OW pros (wich in itself is already really nonsensical) And that while they will forever continue flying all their actual OWL talent over from Korea. With this terrible idea they are basically saying “New yorkers deserve to get a shot in the pro scene because their house is in NY and we will give it to you! But just not in our T1 team though. Korea is where its at after all.” Its a big joke and they are just doing it to reel in fans and sponsors. Pathetic

If it's not merit based on who gets a job, Then it's wrong. Anytime you allow anything other than skill and ability to determine something like this you are 100% wrong. At the very least your saying that you care more about appearances than having the best person for the job. Which given we are talking about paid professionals, is actually throwing. Y'all are freaking out for no reason. First off, all of these players (maybe sans Cloneman) have a decent shot at an OWL team, and if not they certainly will get picked up by a different contenders team (remember, NA is getting split into East and West so there will be PLENTY of room for more players). Second off, I really like this. Contenders isn't supposed to be for teams to keep OWL level talent and hoard it, it's to keep bringing up newer and newer talent or revive old talent. While it would've been nice to give the players another season to LFT before giving them the boot, that's not required. Idk man, I just wish the players luck but again, XL2 is making a really huge step towards community involvement in the tier 2 scene, which is a big deal. I appreciate their willingness to take risks, and I hope this one pays off

Does no one else here watch any other esports? This sounds like an org that is hungry to do more, who isnt happy being top 10 and wants the number 1 spot. Maybe you dont agree with them making this gamble on underdeveloped players but it is the orgs money and their decision to make. They may feel as though they've seen the potential of the lineup already and can do better. The community's limitless dedication to players can prevent you from considering the orgs side. Sometimes a move isnt about talent it's about how well you work together, attitude or potential.

So, it’s bad to try and have representation? It’s like this, if you have 0 members on your team (London Spitfire) Then local fans feel like they actually have no team at all. So I get it. But, at the same time, this should have been done Season 1 for all teams. Because now you are kicking deserving players out. It’s one of those “Good on Paper” ideas but it’s far too late for it to be effective in Today’s contenders scene.
