I was thinking about who would really be similar to Alekna but in the shotput so I made this comparison. I think this is a style that could be used for shot and discus. The films were at different speeds so I did my best to sync them up.

Out of the back the both wind up fairly tall. Not sitting super bent in the legs. The left foot is rotated into the right. The left shoulder/arm is low.

To initiate the first turn the twist the left foot/heel low and around. As they begin to sit on the left leg the heel comes up allowing them to drop the knee and still remain fairly up right in the torso. The right leg pushes off the toe and forward. Then sweeping long and wide, leading with the instep of the right foot.

Dean’s leg sweeps a little higher initially and then comes low as it passes the left. Mykolas is more of an out, around and down motion. The right foot is brought under the knee entering the circle.

Mykolas can and does hold X much better though this is a combination of the different implements and his extraordinary ability.

As the left foot pushes off the back of the circle, it is brought high like a butt kick as the thighs/legs squeeze together. This action speeds up the turn in the middle. They both ground fairly early around 2-3 o’clock. Though much weight is not on the foot this gets two feet on the ground faster as well. The right foot is not pre-turned or doing any turning action. It is pivoting from the momentum of the sweep and the left leg action.

The left foot grounds when the implement is about 180° back from the throwing direction. This is not exactly true for Dean though is it possible as done by his nephew.

The right foot now begins to turn into the left as they push/extend the hips forward and up. Completing extension in both hips and legs when the hips and chest are facing the sector. Now the implement rips through the delivery. The body stops as they release. The right foot shifts forward and the left leg shifts back.
