"If you hadn't betrayed me and left me to die, I'd have an equal share in that curse same as you."

Anyone else get the impression Jack knew the treasure was cursed for real and was still trying to find it? Barbosa didn't believe it until he became cursed himself, but Jack had already met Davy Jones by this point. He knew the legends of the curse could be true. While I'm sure this wasn't the original intent of the writers, in retrospect my theory is that Jack was trying to curse himself of purpose so he'd stand a chance in a fight against Jones without needing to find the Dead Man's Chest, or at least as insurance before he went looking for Jones' heart.

Honestly the curse from the original movie is a lot easier to weaponise. They didn't even feel pain, whereas even if you can't kill Jones without stabbing the heart, wounding him clearly hurts him to some degree, as he cries out when wounded by both Jack and Will. Not to mention that Jones' crew members, while they evidently having remarkable healing abilities and don't age, they can be killed, whereas Barbosa's crew in the first movie couldn't without lifting the curse. All Jack would need to do is lure Jones into shallow water fake a defeat so Jones' crew boards the Pearl, then reveal that they're all immortal, slaughter Jones' crew and then take the Dutchman with only Jones himself to contend with.

Jack always knew Jones would come back for him. He swore Jones 100 years of service. It can't be a coincidence that the first thing Jack did after having the Pearl raised from the depths of the ocean was seek out an immortality that could rival Jones himself.

A Captain and his First Mate, ex-First Mate, his internship with Sparrow made him confident enough to become a captain himself. But a first mate is always a first mate to his captain, thats why jack still calls him Hector.

The scene when jacks about forced to marry the scabies winch and Barbossa crashes the party…………Jack: “ Hector! Me bestest mate in the whole world!!”
With the most truth in his voice and face….. their relationship, past interactions, and that situation…. Makes that scene for me their best interaction

Love these small scenes. They really exemplify the fact they’re really best mates. They just disagree ALOT of the time, and who is a best friend but a person you disagree with all the time but get along with all the time all the same

It is immediately apparent how much of a drunken fool Jack became in the last movie, rather than an sly, cunning sparrow using his name and reputation to make others drop their guard until he says exactly what he needs to to survive.

There's just something different about the first three films.
I feel like the action was comedic, but the chracters themselves still took it serious. Scene like the water wheel or jack escape from the dauntless or davyjones spinwheel were funny for the audience but at no point in time did the characters stop to laugh abiut their situations. Sure outside characters projected how we as the audience felt, but nobody reacted with a marvelesque pun.
I think this feel of touch got lost with verbinski. And then there is the other problem. The sequels often failed to capture the essence or really understand some characters.
Paired with unkwon characters, the characters we as the audience knew felt out of place, because they were becoming more and more caricatures of themselves.
Jack always worked best when he was not the main focus, when he coudl have his own side story and he could be sceming. He always has a plan, an adaptation. He looks chaotic and goofy but behind his jester and oaf facade hides brilliance and it was when this vrilliance shone through when jack was at his best.
In later seuqels this became less and less until the facade, the cariacture of himself became the character.
And the same dynamic could be seen all over the sequels.
They were but poor imitation of the original only hinting at the true nature by giving glimpses of oast exploitations and character attributes to hide their mistunderstanding of the characters and world.

What i want so say with this is not that they were bad films. In and of itself i think the movies were alright, but because they tried to emulate a world they did not really help to capture the essence from, they failed.
Theirs was but an illguided venture on replicating past glory without the mind for acknowlesging the way to said glory.
If they had understood this maybe some better stories could have been created in the sequels stead.

Jack and Hector's relationship is similar to that of many other iconic fictional characters like the Doctor and the Master, Sherlock Holmes and Mycroft or Moriarty, Optimus Prime and Megatron, Yugi Muto/Atem and Seto Kaiba, and many more.
