The gruesome and seemingly misogynistic nature of this case makes me squeamish, to be perfectly honest. If you have kids, I would suggest keeping them away from this one until they are at least 15 to 16, if possible.

So many thing's I've seen about jack the ripper throughout the year's John. But when the police got to the crime scenes well they started to wash the blood away and other evidence they may of had. But this was nearly 130yrs ago and actual finger printing did not start until about 25yrs after these murders. In saying that the lead detective at the time : Frank Abberline : He was one of the best John This would of been about the only case that he did not get to solve even though I do believe he knew who it was. I would of liked to have met him John. Goooday and have a nice day John. 👍👽👍

Thank you for reviewing JTR, The Definitive Story. I don't consider myself a Ripperologist but I've been reading about the case for 40 years. This film has wonderful production value and mentions some obscure details. Worth a watch. Personally, I'm convinced that the Ripper had to have had medical knowledge, either as a doctor, trainee, assistant in surgery, or mortuary attendant. Picture this: You have just strangled a woman who now lays in nearly pitch black darkness at your feet. You're going to cut her throat because that's easy and fast. Now you want to disembowel her, FAST, before you get caught. Do you know where to cut, in the darkness? Where's the uterus, in the pitch black? Where's the kidney? You can't see anything first off and the blood makes EVERYTHING look black. I have often wondered what experiment could be devised, with a cadaver or a dead animal to see if a person, completely ignorant of the inner body, could do these cuts in the dark in 5 minutes.

I got totally lost in the Ripper investigation at one point, writing spreadsheets with each suspect's name and columns for different critieria (surgical skill, proximity to crime scene, criminal history, handwriting/education, alibi if any, circumstantial evidence, etc.) I pored over these things for a couple of months and reread all the only Ripper sites. Then I decided I just couldn't make up my mind and I couldn't think of what missing pieces we could possibly find that could clinch it. So I moved on.

John,
Patricia Cornwell authored a book about The Ripper a few years ago. It's long, comprehensive and very interesting. She took years to investigate it, even going to England and Scotland Yard and many other places to dig up evidence.
Anyway for those truly interested and actually read and not just watch documentaries,( not that I don't watch them, I do,all the time and love them, if they're well done), it's fascinating.
Btw John, I'm hooked on your channel. Watch it every day and have only been a subscriber for about a month. Thank you for your caring and hard work.

Thanks for doing a review. I just watched this about a week ago and found it very interesting. Also they explain as much as possible each conclusion they have come to and supporting facts/evidence as best they can with what is available. I too enjoyed the imagery used that gives the feel of what streets were like etc... Not wanting to give too much away for those who've not watched it yet, but what is revealed makes sense.
Thanks again, great job, and enjoy your videos!

Have you discussed Baby Lisa's disappearance? I went through most of your videos and didn't come across anything on that case but there is a chance I missed it. If you haven't done a video on it, I would love to see your take on that story and what you think actually happened to Baby Lisa that night she was supposedly taken.

Whitechapel now against Whitechapel back then is so different that it's almost unrecognizable except street names really. Good on them for trying to put together a model of Ripper era Whitechapel even if it isn't perfect.

An interesting sidenote: The late actor James Mason did a filmed walk through at the site of the murder at 29 Hanbury Street just before it was torn down. Fascinating, but I can't find it anymore. Can you, John? I'm not a tech wiz at all. Thanks

I've read a few different books on this, online today you find a number of comments talking about the freemasons and the jews and I've heard these groups also mentioned in connection to Jack the Ripper. There is an artist called William Hogarth and he made prints that very much resembled the positions some of the bodies were left in(or rather the bodies were left in those same positions as the prints) and they are masonic prints; and because of the connections to the Camden School of Artists through Walter Richard Sickert, may have had knowledge of the Hogarth prints. A sexual sadist whatever It was. Same powers that exist in every generation and era, like dark shadows in the background. 'powers higher than the thrones of Europe'......'The rulers of the darkness of this world.'

Hey John I read a book about Jack the Ripper when I was around 18 or 19 it is called Jack the Ripper case closed by Patricia Cornwell please please please read it it is so convincing and the suspect in question is extremely plausible Patricia does a whole background and criminal profile on Walter sickert he was a German artist who had the psychological makeup means and talent to commit these crimes it's a very good read you could probably finish it in a day I couldn't put the book down when I read it please look into it and tell me what you think

Hi John,
In the late 1970s we had a serial killer in Britain who was dubbed The Yorkshire Ripper (Peter Sutcliffe). When he hadn't been found "quickly enough" the Metropolitain (London) Police wanted to overtake the Yorkshire Police and investigate. The head investigator was called George Oldfield, when he heard about the met police taking his case he said:
"No bloody chance! They haven't caught their own ripper yet!"
(Sorry, I just had to share that, it comes to mind and makes me laugh every time I hear the word Ripper.)
There's a BBC shop where you can buy DVDs etc, it's somewhere on the bbc website.
Keep up the brilliant work John!
