Range anxiety has crept into the mind of any e-bike rider at some point in their ride. Whether you extended your route a little further than planned, went back up the hill for another run, or forgot to give your electric bike a full charge before heading out with your buddies. The dread of seeing the battery level drop to one bar, and realizing you don’t have enough juice to make it home is always a tough situation. 

At Canyon we wanted to address this head-on – creating bikes with powerful motors and enough range to suit every rider’s needs. How? We looked beyond what was available ‘off-the-shelf’, and developed our own batteries. Creating 720 and 900Wh Canyon-engineered batteries enabled us to offer riders market leading range. 

Beyond boosting range, taking control of our own battery development also means: we are directly connected to the rapidly evolving world of battery tech – allowing us to implement the latest innovations directly, rather than wait for a supplier to develop and distribute a product. Even the unique profile and shape of our batteries help us to optimize frame design and weight distribution.

For some electric bicycles, we are still working with third-party power units, but while we can’t as many parameters, we still want to make sure all rider needs are covered, providing different battery size options, for both racers and riders to make them choose the battery that suits their ride style best.
