How to Start a Death Guard Army in Warhammer 40K - Beginner Guide,

My friend just gave me his Death Guard army from Dark Imperium set from 8th edition or so, i can't remember, however, please suggest me what should i buy next? Thank you.

I just picked up the Poxwrought battleforce, can't wait to get into Death Guard.

I've got about 6,000 points of Death Guard, so could you put out a "How to Finish Collecting a Death Guard Army"? That would be super helpful for me. Thanks

getting the poxwrought box and bombat patrol in may and if my local orders morty and and still hs the last combat patrol ill probably snag those as well. but my EC army is also begging me to buy fulgrim

List looks unbalanced as heck. You gotta run at least 2x Plagueburst Crawlers, 3x Plague Marine Squads and 30x Pox Walkers in a 2k list 🙋

What you want to do. Is dinounce Nurgle. Then go mental and see everyone as Horus.

The new Death Guard BF would be a good starter box... if you were lucky enough to pre-order one before they sold out. I was hoping to get one as a gift for a friend but the pre-orders at my LGS's website went up on Thursday night (or after midnight) and when I checked around 1 AM, both the Death Guard and World Eaters BF boxes were sold out. I'll have to settle for a new DG Combat Patrol instead.

I started my DG army with the Dark Imperium box. My roommate and I played a lot of WH40K during the pandemic lockdown and TBH I wasn't a fan of the plague marines at the time, so I played Ultramarines. A couple of years later, I expanded my DG collection with Mortarion, the DG Boarding Patrol, and gradually completed my collection with all the characters. Now the new DG BF box has no appeal because it's redundant, and I'll have to wait a few months for the Lord of Poxes to be released individually.

I'm eager to try the new DG detachments, especially the vehicles detachment, because it's been a while since more than one Plague-Burst Crawler was included in a DG list. The major issue is that most Death Guard units, especially Mortarion, have increased in points, and it already was a struggle fitting enough Plague Marines into lists alongside DG Terminators and any vehicles. It will be even more difficult now that Cultists have been removed -- and Poxwalkers aren't as good for holding a DZ objective because of their non-existent "Save", 8+ Leadership, and being melee only.

managed to get a battleforce and I've still got the 8th ed starter box with the deathguard half somewhere. I'm pretty bad at building lists that are any good so will have to have a think what else I should get

There was a store near me that was canceling their Warhammer affiliation, so I was able to pick up a pack of blightlord terminators for 30% off. Happy to see the Combat Patrol for both chaos factions are really solid. Glad the DG got solid stuff.

Army question: I have the DG dark imperium half and the two old DG Christmas boxes. What else do I need to round out a fun list?

Old + new Combat Patrol + Kill Team sounds like a decent start
Just use the Icon Bearer as a normal Marine and fill up your 2 Marine Squads to 10
Then maybe a box of Terminators and because they are cheap Blighthauler(s)

My Idea is
60 Poxwalker
1 Tallyman
Typhus
Mortarion
3 x 3 Deathshroud+ 1 Lord of Contaigon each
5 blightlord Terminators and a Lord of virulence (or some plague marines with character Support)
Detachment for Charactermodelles starting Turn 1 with -1 to Hit and Turn 2 deepstrike extra CP via Tallyman for Charge reroll.

They never gonna release that LoC again huh ?

I preordered the new combat patrol, the new battleforce box. And I snagged the old combat patrol.

How to start the army: Buy Mortarion. Never paint him because you don't feel confident enough to pull it off. Buy some little buddies to accompany Mortarion on your shelf. Learn to paint/play Death Guard.

If only gw learned to make more than a couple dozen of the new starting box, it would want easier to start the army. Instead of giving it all to scalpers.

I don't see it as morties legion. Lore wise, I've always found him one of the more boring, worthless of the emperors sons. And thats saying something, given the state of traitor primarchs, and complete duds like Ferrus.

Spend £300 on a starter box from a scalper because they're all gone.

Made me think, both Emperors Children and World Eaters are considered shattered legions, unlike the Death Guard. But what about Thousand Sons? I guess they are more unified with Magnus back to being active, but it feela like they are often portrayed in the lore as being split into a lot of small warbands doing thier own thing.

Not the biggest fan of Deathguard but Im really thinking about Iron Warriors and using the DG rules and uncorrupting the models.

I want to know the total number of Nurglings, Plaguebearers, Beasts of Nurgle and Chaos Spawn total I can bring now.

The battle force box was way too rich for me. My goal is to build a Death Guard army by really beating the bushes and going second-hand when I can, mostly from FB marketplace and similar.

I did order the new Combat Patrol, and was lucky enough a lot of loyalty points from my FLGS.

The death guard patrol box, is nice, x2 if you just starting out, 1k points, just a shame you will have 2 tally man.

They seriously need to release the big ax lord of contagion as a stand alone kit i love it allt more than the other lord of contagion

As a DG player I'm excited for the new rules; I'm also awaiting the rapidly incoming nerfs for some of the supremely broken stuff we got.

Now's the time to actually start building my Death Guard. 🎉 I'm so glad to have dark imperium, know no fear, some conquest magazines, the old Combat patrol and some more individual kits, bought at significantly cheaper prices than now.

One thing that's good from the Heresy stuff, Deimos pattern rhino. Asthetically can fit nicer that the standard chaos rhino. Death Guard doors on it then Nurgle it up a bit with some bits

Blightlord terminators are very good now, get atleast 2 full units. Deathshroud terminators 1 or 2 full units.
Mortarion is very strong now, 380 points. Plague marines with Typhus for fights first on the best battleline unit in 40k.
The rest can be filled with vehicles for support.

I'm also one of the lucky few that managed to get a battleforce + combat patrol at my LGS.
So hyped for the death guard, their codex looks very good and flavorful.
