Needing to improve speed and reliability due to increasing demand from COVID-19, the Washington Health Benefit Exchange worked with Red Hat partner Deloitte, to enhance the state’s online insurance marketplace. As part of its collaboration with Red Hat and Deloitte, the Washington Health Benefit Exchange employed container and integration technologies to improve Washington Healthplanfinder, the state's online health insurance marketplace. This project helped record numbers of families to gain the health coverage they needed during COVID-19. Moving to a more modern technology stack, the Washington Health Benefit Exchange utilized open source technologies, including Red Hat® OpenShift® Container Platform and Red Hat 3scale API Management Platform, to migrate key systems. This allowed the state agency to streamline business operations, reduce costs, and ultimately helped citizens across the state of Washington to identify, locate and select the best health and dental care providers to meet their specific family needs.
