Home rules? You mean House Rules Holly. Come on, stay on brand.
ОтветитьSpeaking from the perspective of one who started with the D&D red box and ran characters and campaigns through to the gold box, ran and played huge campaigns with AD&D 2e and dipped into 3e in between enjoying other systems (TORG anybody? GURPS? VtM? Cyberpunk? Shadowrun?) I'm curious about how this channel will play out. Not optimistic but definitely curious. Can't help but wonder if Hasbro have bought you out ngl.
ОтветитьYou have redeemed yourself, Holly. I'll be watching more of this stuff with you included. 😊
ОтветитьAdvertising D&D Beyond? Really?
Meh.
Please do a 'character creation' stream/video when you play Call of Cthulhu or any other system with extensive character options. I find them interesting and enjoy the insights into what the players hope to get out of their character choices, and comparing it to how that actually plays out during gameplay.
If you decide you want to have the characters as a 'surprise' to viewers at the start of each campaign, you could just do it as a separate video and release it simultaneously as the first episode of the given campaign/scenario.
Randy Granny squad
ОтветитьMy last character I played was a human rogue named Dav, who found a cue ball and went insane. Also forced the DM to railroad by rolling a 35 (I believe) to try escaping from a trapped room.
ОтветитьCan you actually wield a greatsword one handed in DnD? Surely that would incur a penalty of some sort on normal height characters, as greatswords are normally around 5 to 6 feet long and are wielded as two handed weapons. Plus, good luck swinging a greatsword in an 8 by 8 foot room 😂
ОтветитьGolden Girls: Warrior Edition
ОтветитьI like to make my characters have quirks. My barbarian tortle was bulimic and would throw up on enemies. My worforged rogue is a pirate lol
ОтветитьGranny Goodness and Sweet Chariot, love the names.
Ответить"Dont expect this when you play a TTRPG with your friends"
NO YOUR FRIENDS WILL ONLY DO SEXY THROWAWAY JOKES THIS IS A LIE.
5e Tools is a great website to see all the options and read the books. You also can easily search monsters by name or challenge rating or type (ie undead) and see different subclasses side by side.
ОтветитьThinking back to the early 1970s I can still remember my favourite two characters. A pubescent teenage Necromancer (Gill). Loved collecting skulls etc from an early age. He found an older man to follow. He was knowledgeable but very low on strength, dex and charisma. The other character was very large clumsy, ugly and unliked Half-Orc (Snog). A greater fighter and great at knocking down doors. He had no saving graces except this strength. He had a friend whom he kind of protected but they were not friends. Remembered from 50 years ago because they were such fun...
Ответить"You guys have got so much more hurt, and you know what, you deserve it." - Laughed out loud at this. The chaotic energy of this video was awesome.
ОтветитьWords cannot describe how much I love "Gnome Trolls Bard" as a name.
Actually I do have some, I have named one of the Starting Taverns in my Setting after it : P
i hope that if their main characters die, they go for the characters they have here
ОтветитьDidn’t manage to catch this live but just wanted to say that Holly is an excellent host!
ОтветитьMy favorite way to explain the 6 abilities is with the tomato method.
Strength- how easily you crush one
Dex- how easily you dodge one
Intelligence- you know that it's a fruit
Constitution- how easily you can eat a bad one
Wisdon- you know even though it's a fruit it doesn't go on a fruit salad
Charisma- how well you can tell people it belongs in a fruit salad
I hope we continue on with the adventures of sweet chariot and grandma scrumptious. If we’re looking for titles I offer: swinging into adventure: journey through our first (non-sex) dungeon
Ответить@lauri the wide camera can be tighter when playing with just the 3 players. The large NRB is nice but leaves a stretch for head space.
ОтветитьI am beyond hyped and proud of you all for the new channel! I can't wait to see all the things you will make 🤩
ОтветитьBlair really embraced chaos in her character creation, shall i pick a number or let the chaos of a D20 tell me.
ОтветитьThis was less a D&D campaign and more Holly’s slow descent into madness. And it was amazing
ОтветитьLoved the story bits. This is very similar to our regular DnD groups. Also...69th comment. Nice.
ОтветитьThey're just 2 wild and crazy gals!
ОтветитьI'd love for y'all to try The Witch Is Dead from Gshowitt's one page adventures. He also made the Honey Heist rpg that you did earlier on this channel. It's my favorite one shot to introduce people to rpg's. It has only 3 stats, it's only 1 die, it's free, it's got magic, it's only a page of rules, it's awesome.
I always call it "DnD light" lol
Also, natural 20 being a special success out of combat of DM discretion only (but it's a popular house rule!). In rules as written it's auto-success only in combat.
ОтветитьStandardcharacters.
I tend to pair my characters so...
The Plumrot Alefield Merchants
Inil Plumrot; alcohol merchant. Bubbly friendly role play slave for the party. (Divine soul, college of lore halfling)
Bombadil Alefield; halfling who has emigrated to a dwarven kingdom. Metal and weapon merchant. Goes out of his way to prove he's dwarven. Rune knight ranger paladin. (Hits for 7d6 by level 5...)
The mages.
Irinal Durmista; bladesinger with a casting handicap. He can only cast spells on touch or on himself. Ranged abilities are removed. (Half drow half moonelf)
Gubuk Duhkal; orcish "mage". Actually wild magic barbarian. Her 'hammer knows the spells'. After she gets a wand of wonder and a feck of anything's she becomes chaotic magic incarnate!
Animalistic:
Gren'oiulle; purple grung ex slaver Druid. He's big on arguing there's no difference between his society and wage slavery. But at least gold grung (kings) still serve the gods and people.
No Name; tortle monk. Doesn't really speak or understand Society. Follows those who name him. Uses currency as a ranged weapon.
Evil;
Giris ath Mor; drow necromancer. Wanted super edgelord warlock... Turns out drow goddess of the dead is amount the least evil drow deities. Giris may come off as good due to an aversion to killing... Until he says "they didn't earn it..."
Nuncia Hellequin: arcane trickster trickery domain. This tiefling has remained close to her devil ancestry. She acts as an agent attempting to procure the souls of the PCs; and NPCs of course.
These 8 are my core characters to pull out. On building I'm big on random rolling. The stats will introduce an interesting character. Lol
Finished the campaign section.
Excellent. As off the rails as that went... You captured all that DnD is supposed to be. Hilarious.
Couple of tips and one rules clarification. I'm 90% sure it's half damage rounded up for exactly to that scenario. To ensure a minimum of 1 damage is done. I think the way you ruled it worked out better though.
Second piece of advice. You got it yourself there at the end. Don't prepare so much. Kind of like character creation with the roll for everything... A splash of the dramatic; a few pre designed characters; and the positive energy of your players can fly you through amazing adventures. You can absolutely build a serious campaign; but for a one shot; go in with a paragraph story. 5 sentences.
DnD is fun because you don't have control over what happens. Even as DM your players carry far more power than youd think. Sometimes (especially one shots) go in as blind as a player and have as much fun discovering with them as guiding them to discoveries.
For a first time DM you did phenomenal!
I make characters that range from serious to stupid. A serious character I have is a female samurai hexblade that absorbs souls of her kills and they become tattoos on her body. While my dumb character was a con artist who screwed a wizard out of his spellbook and learned their divination magic. His con name is No-no Wammies
ОтветитьWhat's sad is I'm seeing so many people in the comments, just like there were people in the chat, bashing DND Beyond. Beyond and Roll 20 kept my D&D group together during COVID, and honestly, we still use them since we're separated by continents now. If you don't like Beyond, Roll 20, Wizards, etc, cool. But quit pushing your crap on other people. You come off as a trash gate-keeper, and you're cringe AF.
ОтветитьThis stream was perfect timing! I just started my first campaign with friends relatively new to dnd and had session 0 the other day. Very helpful to see you guys going through this as well :D
ОтветитьThey're the queens of the swingers. The dungeon VIPs.
ОтветитьCan we have Holly's notes for this scenario
ОтветитьI can honestly say to Holly, if you do enough dming, you will find players WILL derail anything you come up with. I've been doing it for over 30 years, and trust me, players are unpredictable, and often times foolhardy to say the least. It was quite enjoyable to watch, look forward to more D&D adventures you all do.
ОтветитьI like the idea of a magic school frat bro, who is a Sorcerer/Warlock. Essentially he has the raw talent of a sorcerer but just likes to party and have a good time so made a pact with an archdemon to help him cheat at exams.
ОтветитьThis is what I imagine a DnD game looks like when no one has played before and only one of them owns the book😅
This video was lots of fun to watch, but sooo frustrating at times!🤣
A 72 year old Elf is more like a 40 year old human (middle age). Where the teiflng is closer to elderly human age.
ОтветитьBtw my character's name is Sullivan in current dnd scenario. And he is going bananas😂
ОтветитьThis was so much fun! I love seeing Holly hosting and the three of you have such great chemistry together!
ОтветитьThis will be the video I show to people who watch professional Actual Play vids and want to play DND.
This will be the video that manages their expectations so they’re not confused when their first game is full of semi-coherent craziness and rude jokes.
Thank you Holly, Blair and Sully!
Would love more DnD tutorials! I want to write campaigns, struggling to find interesting guides but super in to this channel. Pretty please.
ОтветитьHow is Gnome Trolls Bard not the name of the new channel
ОтветитьSullivan using a greatsword with a shield and choosing all of the fighting styles…very norty
ОтветитьFor character creation Traveller is the go to as it's almost a game in itself.
Youd have thought theyd have at least 4 six sided dice to speed up the dice rolling for character creation...oh Blair has a lot!
Got to say D&D is clunky af compared to Call Of Cthulhu...anyway its kind of interesting seeing this though
As someone who plays D&D 3/4 times a week it's so great seeing Holly DMing for the first time, there's quite a few incorrect rulings she makes (especially around what martial weapons are and what you add to hit/damage etc.), but "we'll rule it as this and come back with a proper ruling for next time" is genuinely the best way to play, especially when you're just starting out. Pausing the game to look up rules is fine, but when it's your first time you don't want to be breaking the flow to do it constantly, so making a snap decision and looking it up for next time is absolutely the correct call, excellent work from Holly! <3
ОтветитьI wish I could play this sometime but I don't really have many friends and I also have a small son so late nights are not really a thing right now
ОтветитьProbably the most fun I've seen Blair have.
