Glass that is curved in one dimension is not that hard to make, it's the glass that is curved in two dimensions that is expensive. So the simple curve in the windshield is still a cost saving measure.

For the trunk I think I'd get some self tapping screws and a woven cargo mesh and screw it in with some grommets to reinforce the screw points. Would make the trunk functional and would keep it light.

You forgot to mention that this is completely legal to operate on any public roads. Around the neighborhood fine but running errands around town completely illegal. You can't register license or insure it. As it's not road legal in any shape or form.
