In my home town post communist era, BJP had a MP for almost 6-7 years and then TMC won. No MP has done any revolutionary development. The local municipal body is trying to act efficiently but there are many many issues in the Tier 2 tier 3 cities in Bengal. BJP had 18 MPs out of 42 (now 17). Has any of them done anything mind blowing that they can win election without NaMo’s intervention.

Problem is LS election is not a state election or panchayat election. It’s a National election and I can assure you all the BJP MPs from Bengal has neither brought any revenue, nor any development to Bengal. So, why vote for BJP? With voting for TMC, folks are atleast keeping some opposition left in the Lok Sabha. Otherwise, rest of North India has almost decided to saffronise themselves. I ain’t interested to colour my clout yet. Sorry but ache din is a jumla. And everyone knows that.

CPM rule changed the mindset of the people of urban gentry into regressive thinking.
Firstly, the Govt gave easy permits to new localities to come up wifh narrow roads so that single car could enter in. Secondly, even multi storey buildings did not leave car parking slots and municipality agreed with this regressive idea in a metro city. CPM said, we have provided easy bus travel, so why aspire for a car or car parking space ?
CPM bludgeoned the society so much that wedding invitation cards were printed with different bus routes to reach the venue. I have not seen such wedding cards in any other metro city or even smaller cities.
CPM rule just killed the aspirations of people and TMC has continued with it.

This is nothing new. Mafia is common in places like Italy and also common practice in every other Indian state, whereby a few families and groups have come to consolidate much of the land and resources in that state under their control through strong arm tactics and bribery (now done via electoral bonds). Yet Italy and some other Indian states have prospered while Bengal has faltered. So there must be other factors at play. It's also ironical as to how Bangladesh with more radical muslims present there, is more developed than West Bengal.

It could be because the state is more suited to agriculture and service sector, than heavy industrial activity such as deforestation, manufacturing, and mining. It's the same way that Indians feel when western nations want to set up pollution causing industries outside their countries, and set them up instead in places like Asia and Africa, exploiting the latter's resources. WB should have had a leader like Chandrababu Naidu to utilize the state's higher literacy rate and give the service sector a boost by investing in and promoting futuristic industries such as IT. That was a missed opportunity.
