Olights are great but they are floody. You want a thrower you need a stream light

I bought an OLight Seeker 4 Pro last week. Brilliant bit of kit! Great for walk arounds, especially on the 777

It’s so hard to beat the ole StreamLight Stinger for walk arounds! Just wish they would upgrade to a better charging system like this!

Try the Coast HP3R for the best of both worlds, or the Coast G20 for direct focused light. Granted, that's in a pen light, but I find them fantastic for maintenance.

In the past 12 years total GSE here, ramp & shop. Streamlight for me. The battery in my Strion is still going after 7 years, very little discernable capacity loss. Stinger for my POV, used to use it when I was a paramedic. I do like that mag charging setup tho. The Strion spent an hour in a tank full of gas until we could get the fuel drained & tank off to shake it out. Still worked perfectly. My bad for being clumsy & dropping stuff constantly 🤦

Great review Stig. Now they need to improve their lineup & let you try it again.

5 year old Nitecore R40 and i still love it. 5 power level to set , metal body, heavy as it have to be, A330 vertical stabilizer I don't fear you, pressing both P/B it stay off so no way it turn on by itself. Just to be careful at the P/B membrane, induction and cable charging, 115€ but it's worth it all IMO. My company provided me a Led Lenser (don't remember the model) but not the best option in external use.
Ciao ;)

I’ll never forget my first “mag light” before those we used plastic 2 d cell flashlights. I used to use my mag light to hammer in DC8 tow bar pins. I like my stream lite right now. Flashlights are an aircraft mechanic status symbol…lol. Excellent video dude. every aircraft mechanic will appreciate it.

They look cool, but as a relatively new StreamLight owner- I think they produce the Rolls-Royce of flashlights 😊

I have a couple of Olights at work, the one that gets used the most is an I3T with a 10440 battery. I'm on day shift line, I use it to check IDG oil. 😂
If I end up doing something inside, I have a Perun 2 Mini headlamp. Thing is great, small, light and really bright if you need it to be. I don't usually run it on Turbo, its just too bright for close up work. On high mode it will run for about an hour and a half.

I can see you needing hands free flashlight as well. Love my headlights, no brand preference yet. Using a foxelli unit. Usually have two cos I like back ups.

Great review, Stig - good to see how your particular needs match the specifications on offer. Magnetic base and charging cable look useful. As you say, these three suit a home environment best.

I'll take the Pelican 7600 for line maintenance as it also has red and green led function and a wand also in the flashlight holder. Love your channel!

Oh my! This so unreal...or surreal, was just checking the locks on the freighter ,with the pilot, n he saw my super duper floodlight from a small key light,800lumens ,n said my keylight can do more "damage" than old days Cop Maglights, I knew there has to be a commonality love of torchlight amongst us aviation staff, AME, crew...
Maybe we should be issued with Imalent DX80, double up as De-Icing. Lol

And American is okay with you reviewing flashlights as you’re “doing” inspections? It’s a little off putting. Most mid-air disasters happen because of very tiny reasons. Also I get it “you know what you’re doing.” So did those in other midair accidents.

As an a&p myself, working overnights in Orlando, the two tools I use the absolute most are my Milwaukee headlamp, and my OLight warrior x pro flash light!

And yes, they are tools!!!

Ответить
@teamgmotorsports
@teamgmotorsports - 18.12.2023 20:09

If they are still willing to send you more lights, try the warrior x pro, more of a spot light! I can use it to see to the top of the vertical stab on our 319/320’s without issue!!! Been through a lot of lights myself, and this one for its size (fits in my pouch on belt) it’s the best by far. One charge usually lasts me 3-4 12 hour shifts depending on usage.

I take it home on days off and use it when walking my dog at 2am. It lights shit up, I swear and 1/8ish of a mile away….. by that I mean, a train crossing with a train going by last night about an 1/8 of a mile away, all reflective stickers and paint lit up bright as hell and could actually see the struckture of the train cars themselves a little too

In AMT school right now and before I started school, I worked as a ramp agent for UPS and at Atlantic Aviation and used a Olight Baton Mini, now I use a Baton 3 Pro at school and I love it! I wish I could afford other Olight flashlights.

When I worked the line, this was my biggest problem, finding a flashlight that would fit the needs on the ramp. Some of the guys I worked with went with the Stingers (I think that's the name), the same flashlights that police and law enforcement use, but they were pretty pricey. $150 and up just for the flashlight and then you needed special charging equipment for them. I stuck with the standard mag light and whatever other cheap light I could find that had a pretty good lumen rating and light pattern and just went through a buttload of AA and AAA batteries. Great review!

They are basically all made in China and many of the specs are bullshit with false specs such as lumens. There's a vid of many being tested and 3/4 of them couldn't produce the lumens levels they claimed. The chinese are liars

I have several Olights including the Baton Pro 3, hold the power button down for 2-3 seconds and the it will flash on/ off and its locked so its not accidentley turned on. way to be sure is to try and turn on and the little light on the button will illuminate red. Maybe try the Javelot Mini from Olight it has more of a narrow band of light and can throw over 600 meters at 1000 lumens for 6 1/2 minutes then 500 L for 78. Aluminum alloy case and IPX8 water proof. But yeah , it has to be AC maint. STIG APPROVED...😉

I discovered how much practical are headlights! I'm a maintenance guy like you (helicopters ,Europe) and hands free illumination was an incredible discover.
I use the PETZL Actik Core,(led 450 Lumens) and it's absolutely 5 stars!

Honestly just the video I'd love to find. Especially as a fellow Aircraft Mechanic. I'm currently using the Nitecore P23i which helps a lot.

I do agree that more companies need to have Aviation Maintenance in mind. Since we need great visibility for checking safety.

Cheers to you
