Can the Geforce 4090 do 8K?

Geforce? I'm pretty sure they dropped that designation for RTX. The Geforce 1600 Nvidia cards were the last ones to have that title.

Why are you even using anti aliasing at 8k? I turn it off regularly at even 1440 because the downsides of any aliasing outweigh the positives usually

the older games run better because they were optimized to run native with raw performance without the up-scales. the 4090 only power is with DLSS and upscale. frame generation enabled. in raw performance 4090 is garbage like the rest of the RTX cards

Resolution is a specific task, or number of tasks, that not necessarily scales with everything else we usually regard as demanding. And I believe AMD actually has a native resolution and/or texture advantage. Though by this point it may just be small and disappear completely in proportion.
I wonder if they could actually make 8K possible with just a fraction of extra dedicated units (which one could trade in for ray-tracing parts).
Edit: Clearly this is an amateurish oversimplification, but some aspects of this appear to be valid in regard to pure computing power and pixel output (which AMD is often good at) vs overall gaming performance.

When i got my 4090 i was SO HYPED UP to play games at 4k with no DLSS, and now here I am, couldn't even get Wukong to run at stable 60fps on 4K ultra, even with DLSS.

going from 4k to 8k is a rather big jump

we went from 1080 to 1440p then 4k so a better alternative would of been 5 or 6k

we wont get real 8k gaming at reasonable 300-400$ price range for another 5-6 years or so or 3 generations.

What's the point of playing a game in 8K if you're gonna have to drop the settings to medium? Isn't the point of high resolution to show all the fine details of the graphics?

Outputting to an 8k screen presents challenges of their own. There isn't enough bandwidth to do 8k at 60hz over HDMI 2.1, let alone DP 1.4, which means to get 8k at a decent refresh rate, say, 120hz, requires quite high compression ratios from DSC. It's touted as "visually lossless", but is it? I'd love to see you go down the DSC rabbithole.

Today's games are not ready for 8k (too low detail in models and textures). This test also shows that the hardware is also facing serious development. The power of graphics cards needs to increase at least twice that of Geforce 4090.

imagine getting disappointed that graphics card technology isn't ready for 8k. It's like getting mad that Elon isn't at mars yet.

When we can run native 4K textures on all textures, 8K resolution will begin to matter a lot more!

Death Stranding is very well optimised. 50+ fps @8K is insane. I still play on 1080p with RTX 4060 but in the near future will get 4090.

the only reason you would wanna game in 8k is if you were using a giant screen (like 150 inches or more)...the human eye cant really see anything beyond 4k (it becomes indistinguishable from 8k or higher)

I'm happy holding out till a 9060 or 10060 can chug out the frames native.
