What is your opinion on suitability for precision load bearing parts, such as gears and other precision fit functional parts? What materials have the most temperature resistance and outdoor exposure(intense direct sunlight water etc) tolerance. Thanks in advance.❤👍

This stuff seems like magic and awesome testing procedures! What is with them speccing it for "printing up to 300mm/s" though? What sort of metric is that? You're saying I can't print it at 10x that speed at a lower layer height or narrower extrusion width? Does this material change as it approaches the speed of light?! 😂

Interesting results... with seeing the stringing on the glass fiber parts I will say that it appears that further drying is worth considering when using the material to see if the stringing can be less if not completely gone from the prints. I know it's probably more than they might recommend for drying. I say this because I have yet to see a drying box that can properly dry filament the same as a laboratory blast oven can. I'm pretty sure that is what they used to come up with the drying recommendations... I only wanted to bring this up because to me the stringing does give an indication of moisture... in my opinion anyway... I just think it would be interesting to see if once it was dry enough to have no stringing... if that would also give different test results... anyways, great video thanks for sharing the tests... I do appreciate you... you always give great information... I buy a lot of my filament relative to what I see from your tests... thank you...

I print accessories that go inside of planes... it can get REALLY hot inside of a plane all buttoned up on the tarmac, so I've been doing ABS-GF because some of them are large and I needed protection against warping.

Maybe this is a solid alternative. Pricing and print success will make all the difference to me.

I'l love to see a comparison between HT-PLA, HT-PLA-GF and Bambu ABS-GF

Looks like pet-cf is still my go-to for high temp engineering.

Very cool to see this though. I wonder if they some how get the pla crystalline structure to anneal as it cools down from coming out of the nozzle.

Great work, as always.

Have you thought about doing a video on voxel pla+?

It looks like layer adhesion becomes a lot worse than regular PLA with both.
Is that correct?

Do you know How much the HT-PLA GF is releasing glass particles? Is it safe to handle it. I had issues with CF where it was releasing small particles and I had to apply coating on all parts.

I’ve been annealing small PLA parts by printing them on a 90C bed before covering them up and leaving it at 90C for an hour, and I’m getting no warping and only a tiny bit of sagging, I do recommend. No part cooling either.

Other US sourced comparable filaments to Polymaker's new HT-PLA and HT-PLA-GF (off the top of my head) are ProtoPasta's HTPLA and HTPLA-CF (both Ingeo 3D850 based) and 3D-Fuel's Tough Pro PLA+ (Ingeo 3D870 based). I don't think 3D-Fuel has either a glass filled or a carbon filled variant of their Tough Pro PLA+. Both Ingeo 3D850 and 3D870 (as a raw resin) are designed to be both heat stable off the printer and increased heat resistance after annealing. I have yet to find out what resin Polymaker starts with (other Ingeo which is the resin family name, not the specific resin grade). I don't know (and don't expect any of them to tell us) what each company's "11 herbs and spices" are that they modify the base resin with. But it would be interesting to see a showdown between those three manufacturers (five filaments). An advantage that Polymaker's GF filament over ProtoPasta's CF filament is coloring. It's tough to get any color to show well past all the black chopped carbon fiber in a CF filament, but glass is clear so would take colors much better. Hopefully Polymaker will add colors to their HT-PLA-GF over time.

I'm wondering what chemical they blended in to achieve this?
Also, I compared the TDS's with my trusty dusty ASA and I was disappointed. It only wins in stiffness and in certain categories of heat tolerance, not all. Looks like I'm sticking with ASA.

Thanks for the interesting and informative video. From the results, I don’t see this as being a specialist “engineering” material. And it isn’t priced like one.
It is PLA, for PLA buyers, but better - when “better” means not destroyed by boiling-water-temperature. But “better” in other properties/features might still lead to a different PLA, whether Plus, Pro, Matte, Rapid or whatever.
There is another option. And that’s a good thing.

@aosterkamp
@aosterkamp - 29.05.2025 03:29

What is done or added to this to make it stronger? Is it still as safe as standard PLA? Will it biodegrade? Will plants absorb anything harmful to their fruit/seed as it breaks down? My clients/following focus on this kind of stuff. They want human safe, plant safe, pet safe, and environmental friendly (biodegradable). As long as this follows that, this could be a real winner! The vast majority of my prints end up in greenhouses, or out in the elements. We don't need the prints to last forever, but they need to stay solid for a minimum of 3 years. By this time, the plants have matured enough to need a new home anyways, and this is the time people scrap the old, and get new. Would be amazing to be able to scrap the old stuff in a compost pile.

This filament pretty much eliminated the need for PETG. The only property that petg carries that this HT-PLA doesn't is chemical resistance which petg is great for.

Thanks Igor, great work letting us know how this performs. Some companies will make false claims about their products or have some very weird specific situations it works in. In this case you did a good job of using your scientific methods to validate Polymaker's claims. Thank you for the honest review and thank you to Polymaker for being a company with integrity.

Wonder how this wound handle being used for printer mods. Cause where I have my printer, it's really not set up to print stuff like asa or abs, and some of the stuff I want to do to my k1 max needs to be printed in that kind of filament just to handle the temps. Wonder if this could be a sub for it instead 🤔
